I'm glad you mentioned that it was a small study, with a homogenous population. Too often listeners hear the word "study" and think it's a done deal. The idea of increasing/maintaining muscle mass is the most important tip of all. It doesn't matter if your skin is baby smooth if you can't do daily activities. I think people are too focused on their wrinkles and not their strength....both muscle and cardiovascular.

Definitely saw it in myself at 62. And as a side note, I am a veterinarian and saw it in dogs. Would see a patient every year, no change, no change, then suddenly one year, they looked like an 'old dog'. Makes sense. So many things are episodic, why not aging.

I said that about my dad once and I heard my daughter say, do you see your parents a lot but one day they seem older? She never says I look "old" but suddenly fine wrinkles are more and I think with my husband it was his grey hair. It happens.

Oh, no!! Say it isn't so!! I didn't drink coffee until my late 40s---despite working 60+ rotating hours/week as a(n) med-surg, ICU/Trauma, ED RN for 33 years. Then I became disabled by a rare illness & was forced into early retirement 20 years before I planned to stop working, and I became my parents' caregiver in the last years of their lives. I'd bring them a cup from Dunks daily, was tempted by the aroma & became a daily user myself. At 65-1/2 now, I can't get out of bed without coffee. "The world runs on Dunkin's coffee!!!" Sigh. I'll have to find a different bad habit, I guess. ;-)

Dr Daniel Sugai mentioned a small study done in Japan with women who were in their mid-40s and how resistance training helped improve dermal thickness (collagen/growth factors) and reduce circulatory/blood inflammation.

I started weight training at 44-45. ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!! I did it for an hour a day, 4 days per week---and cried on "off" days. (Still hated cardio & STILL do, though I pushed through it 3 hours a week). Lost 124 lbs of fat & gained 14 lbs of muscle. Unfortunately, a rare immunological disease that affects skin, joints, Ling blood vessels & heart and severe back arthritis w/intractable pain forced a lay off several years ago. Recently, however, I restarted even if I had to trade 20-50# weights foe 1-5# ones and resistance bands. But I'm doing my best to use nutrition & resistance training to get back to as close as I can to my former peak performance. 💪🏋♀️ Need to rebuild my core strength, too, as my balance is w/o it causing frequent falls including breaking my shoulder in 3 places and tearing tendons off the bone (in the setting of osteoporosis; got my 1st Reclast infusion today).🤞

I’m seeing it now, at 52. Not only on my face, I’m using many actives, but on the body - skin elasticity plunged around belly button, hands, arms. I’m taking a lot of anti aging supplements, also collagen powder, for 4 years already, also red light therapy, but we all know, we can’t stop aging. Oh, btw, I don’t drink alcohol, like never, stopped drinking coffee about a year ago, almost 0 sugar. I also don’t use make up and I stay away from the sun, using spf 30 daily. Still skin is very much loosing its elasticity! Don’t expect miracles.
