Okay- as stupid and cursed as Robbing Hood is, the idea of committing crimes as a means of communicating larger crimes is actually such an insane idea that I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually something that is done to some extent. Just come up with a code of sorts that allows for extremely notable objects or messages to be left in the scene of the crime, and those objects can be used to signal to someone else what a larger activity will be.

This could make for a next-level mystery novel. You read it the first time to decode the story of the larger crime conspiracy and then you can solve the real mystery in your decoded version. Especially if readers aren't told there's anything under the surface and they have to figure the code out for themselves once they realize something is suspicious.

@babelingua
@babelingua Жыл бұрын
@@quinnstraught9636 In theoretical linguistics, verb-initial word order comes from "movement." Basically, the verb starts out after the subject, but moves to the front of the sentence before the speaker says anything. This is what happens in French inversion questions: "Il aimes les langues" (he likes languages) becomes "aimes-il les langues" (does he like languages?), except in verb-initial languages, movement happens by default: the verb starts out after the subject, but moves to the front of the sentence before the sentence gets pronounced. But in Seraphim, movement happens after the sentence has already been pronounced. The angel starts by pronouncing the subject, verb, and object. Then, the angel moves the verb to the front of the sentence. In French or Irish, this would be impossible - you have to move the verb while the sentence is still in your head. But Seraphim aren't bound by time, so they can send the verb back in time so that it's pronounced in front of the appropriate closed mouth at the appropriate time. A human observer would have no evidence of this occurring except for certain mouths being opened or closed.

@@babelingua Wow hi Creator Of The Language In Question, thanks for disambiguating! I knew I was off in my explanation somehow. I’m not quite all of the way through the *5 hours long* video, but I gotta say yours is probably my favourite¹. The amount of detail put into every single part of the language, from the neography using fucked up Hebrew to the Orbs Of Light, it all drips with dedication and commitment to the bit, I find it both inspiring _and_ slightly worrying. Thanks for the reply, I’ll keep all that in mind (In my own conlangs, I’ve been having difficulty with accidentally making English relexes without realising, and well uh none of that’s anything English does? To say the least), and I hope you had a great new year, and I hope you have a great 2023! ¹(except maybe Robbing Hood, which gets a lot of points for absurdity and illegality)

Yes! And don't worry if you don't think you have a good idea, or have a hard time learning language, or don't understand linguistics terminology... you can still make your own languages in any way you want, any time you want, as much as you want :3 It may seem like a huge project, but actually making a lot of little languages really helps build that muscle for making really cool langs. So go nuts :3 My recommendation for first languages to briefly read about are toki pona, Sol Re Sol, Esperanto, Ithkuil, and Car Slam. There's a good (extreme) variety of implementation and purpose there, giving an idea of the outer bounds of what people have tried so far... and it only gets more interesting as more people join in, as we see in videos like this!

I take this a different way - your personality and "essence" can become a new language. Are you a shooting star that circles the Earth every single night, waiting for someone (just as lonely as you, perhaps) to rest beneath your flight path and whisper you their deepest wishes? Sadly, you won't hear them - you're too busy burning alive and screaming inside to grant them anything - but at least you'll know that someone saw you. They believed in your hidden power when nobody else would. Carry their whispers with you until you are nothing but dust in space again. (whoops, got a bit too poetic there.)

2:13:37 I’m still learning IPA, but what I did before I found out IPA existed was split the words with hyphens and swigly lines. If a consonant is by itself, it makes the sound as opposed to the name of the letter, like vowels. ~ indicates that letters from the same syllable is split. - indicates that it is a new syllable. Examples: Hello [Hehl - o] Right [R ~ i ~ t] Cool [K ~ oo ~ l] Car [Kar]
