Yeah it kinda sucked but it was funny. I'm sure ChatGPT will do better in the future, but I must admit I don't really want it to, lol.
Enjoy this more chill video while I work on finishing the comic, finish writing up some very complex upcoming videos, and study for the LSAT.

Can you teach an AI to understand a conlang? Since there are many AIs that simulate a specific character I'm sure it can at least attempt it. It might have to be slightly custom made since ChatGPT has problems with words.

@@elaqgarahulelpon1479 it would be perfectly possible if there's enough resource material, however it wouldn't be possible to do with chatgpt since you're not performing the actual "training" step when you're interacting with it, but if OpenAI decided to specifically train chatgpt on a conlang I'm certain it would do very well. I'm also sure they wouldn't do that, but it should be (at least eventually) possible for a person to train a similar one themself for a conlang (perhaps based off of LLaMA?), if they have access to a university's computers or something similarly powerful.

I tried this before you came out with your video. it is entirely possible to make a conlang with chatGPT. you have to ask it to do all of the little steps for you individually, and you keep track of it yourself. then you can spit back all of the information and ask it to translate using the prompt. this way, the ai won’t hallucinate. hope this helps!

I tried different approaches to find out which one yields the best results. Mostly, the answers were rather boring. Then I asked it the following: Please translate the sentence "I want you to explain it to me with smoke signals" into a conlang that you construct for this purpose, providing a grammatical breakdown as well as phonetic transcription in the International Phonetic Alphabet. The conlang should be heavily inflecting with many cases, numbers, tenses etc. Most words should be several syllables long and contain complex and interesting consonant clusters and vowel combinations. No part of the language may be directly derived from any existing language. I find its answer actually rather original, at least compared to the previous results: I have constructed a conlang for this purpose called "Kethyrian". Here is the translation of "I want you to explain it to me with smoke signals" in Kethyrian, along with a grammatical breakdown and phonetic transcription in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA): Translation: "Thazordhuth yaran'rhudh mev zymeridh bekoruvyth fykrethyr" Phonetic transcription: /θɑzɔrdhʊθ jɑrɑn'rhʊð mɛv zymɛridh bɛkɔruvɪθ fɪkrɛθyr/ Grammatical breakdown: - "Thazordhuth" (I want) is the first person singular form of the verb "thazordhu", which means "to want". It is in the present tense and indicative mood. - "yaran'rhudh" (you) is the second person singular pronoun, in the nominative case. - "mev" (to) is a preposition indicating the recipient of the action, and takes the dative case. - "zymeridh" (explain) is the second person singular form of the verb "zymeri", which means "to explain". It is in the imperative mood. - "bekoruvyth" (with smoke signals) is a compound noun, consisting of "bekoru" (smoke) and "vyth" (signals). It is in the instrumental case. - "fykrethyr" (to me) is the first person singular pronoun, in the dative case. Kethyrian has a complex syllable structure, allowing for a variety of consonant clusters and vowel combinations. It also has a rich inflectional system, with six cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, ablative, and instrumental) and four tenses (present, past, future, and perfect). My conclusion: the more concrete the better. If you ask the program to give you a description of a conlang, it will mostly be just very plain, probably because it's too vague to compute. I think it's more promising to focus on a concrete example sentence, providing instructions that are likely to inspire original ideas. Also, I recommend not to ask it to base any part of the conlang on an existing language as that will most often lead to rather boring results. For example, I asked it to create a lanuage whose phonology is a mix of Irish and Norwegian and whose grammar is based on Finnish -- and it really just described Finnish, even the example sentences it provided were exact translations into Finnish (even though I explicitly said it should not derive vocabulary from existing languages).

Interesting. I wonder if some mixture of these tools like chatGPT and library of babel and just being creative with how they're not - would be the future of this art form. Like... Analyzing random pages from library of babel as though it's a dead language has always been really inspiring for me. This could prove promising.. have chat GPT sift through literal keyboard mashing for the patterns for us.

I guess it works better with me since I use it to create alien languages all the time. I suppose it’s because I give it very specific instructions and when it does nonsense then I just often regenerate responses until it gives me what I want. It can even create dialects but idk about linguistic evolution. You should experiment with having it describe fictional writing systems and creating languages with non human phonologies

Also, I tried to see if it even knows Nahuatl properly and it obviously doesn't, it just makes it up on the go! I mean, sometimes it gets some words right but it gives them random meaning that are totally wrong, so yeah ChatGPT has a long way to go with languages and logic.

Great now AI has festered itself into lang-sphere Mind me getting into a tangent but AI art is a menace (it maybe fun seeing what Mid-journey or Stable-diffusion generates) but I feel that I need to share my concerns with AI art, as an artist AI generation while interesting even with being flawed and artificial (and it getting progressively better at the days go by) also it being rather intimidating for many artists Why be creative when you can have 1’s and 0’s do it for you I’m honestly worried for the future tbh it’s fun to mess around with but profiting off of it is something else.
