Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

@@jeremybiwer8756 No, it just gets more painful. Its patently obvious the author is either not a native English speaker, or has an exceedingly poor grasp of the language if they are. Reading their writing is literally painful. Its like they just used google translate then a spell checker. I really do not care how good a story is (and that is arguable as it is a subjective matter, not objective), but if its so poorly written as to include so many spelling errors its not worth my time to read. The first one called us TARRENS ffs, not Terran's, and it was not a one off either, it was EVERY time (clear sign of a spell checker addition that was incorrect I might add), Sole instead of soul, I could go on but will not bother. That was either unfamiliarity with the language (in which case why write in English?), incompetence, or laziness. Part of my job involves writing Articles for peer reviewed scientific journals. If this author is a native English speaker it is absolutely obvious he or she never even BOTHERED proof reading their own work. There is absolutely no way I would be so lax with my own writing, not if I am publishing it, even if it is on something like Reddit......

Nice follow up to the previous story. Formations Circling around each other in combat. Aliens are still thinking in 2D vs the 3D of space combat. If you think about it, one logical way to do combat is to "Joust" using speed and direction to bring your formation to pass in and out of range, and while passing the enemy, bringing weapons of the entire formation to bear while only exposing a few ships at a time. "Cutting off the Envelope's corner" so to speak. This spreads damage taken to multiple ships while bringing the entire formation to bear on one poor sorry area of the enemy's formation. Assuming both sides have the same range, this would be a dance of formations and the commander who can out maneuver his opponent wins. However, given the range advantage and how their opponents are "stationary relative" and presenting broadsides ... 😈 On a side note, given the last weapon lauched to "clean up" were nukes, this means that there will be no survivors, as even those who try to abandon ship will be cleansed by Atomic fire. No wonder the Zandir shat their pants in the previous story.

sounded like a nice ''use new tech to make the concepts for how to make your familiar weaponry more deadly and functional for void combat'' ...only shame is the foe was so incredible outmatched that we not got to see if the counter measures also been advanced ,but considering the resources poured into flares etc , and even the 'scifi' concept of point defence on real life ships i wager the terran navy in this would have a quite impressive close range pd cover and extended ecm and early intercept drone web around itself.

Void combat is 4dimentional. Time is a factor, due to the distances. Ships in space do no stop. EVER! Any "stop" they achieve , is relative to another object. A ship may match velocity pitch and yaw with an object in space, thus managing to appear stationary, in reference to that object. Motion does not can not stop. To come to an absolute stop , is to be left out of the universe. The nothing that surrounds our little bubble, is not survivable mentally or physically. Gravity is an effect, not a force.
@michealnelsonauthor
@michealnelsonauthor Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the “relative” means the human fleet waits in a stellar or planetary orbit, perhaps an L point, and the alien fleet “asks for combat” by entering an orbital point ahead of behind the human fleet, “station keeping” in orbit, relatively stopped with respect to the human fleet.

Reasonable story, but still had a major problem. The issue isn't that the aliens had horrible tactics. The issue is that the human's weapons were far superior to the aliens. Namely, the humans could have duplicated the alien's tactics exactly, and the result would have been the same since the humans outranged the aliens by a factor of four. With that kind of superiority, it wouldn't have mattered at all about the tactics used by either side.
@Wwillswords
@Wwillswords Жыл бұрын
They used laser weapons which dissipate over distance in space due to microscopic dust vs the terrans used solid munitions and the macs can only work in a forward aimed spinal mount as they wouldn't get enough force otherwise. So no they didn't out tech but rather applied a different doctrine of using disposable weaponry vs energy weaponry.
@johncochran8497
@johncochran8497 Жыл бұрын
@@Wwillswords Nothing you said invalidates that the humans used weapons with a range approximately 4 times that of the aliens. An obvious consequence of that is that the actual tactics used in the battle NO LONGER MATTER. So even though the aliens used an obsolete line of battle, that had no effect on the battle's outcome.
@Wwillswords
@Wwillswords Жыл бұрын
@@johncochran8497 you said that the weapons are far superior I was stating that we simply don't know. As we never see the aliens fire. Their shots may have been way more powerful or faster firing but shorter ranged. A sniper rifle is awesome until someone gets in close and a shotgun is deadly in close range. However a shotgun suffers at longer ranges. Would you argue the shotgun is a worse weapon then a sniper based purely off of range? But if you take those same two weapons and put them in a field facing each other the shotgun may outperform the sniper due to its scatter shot approach until someone spreads out the line so as to avoid groups to aim for and widens the range. Then suddenly the sniper seems really op. They may have very well had mac weaponry, but not implemented it due to concerns; which we don't see. For example some concerns might be ammunition costs/storage or the opponets they normally fight have defences for solid impacts but energy weapons are harder to defend against so they saved money by only building energy weapons and defences for energy weapons; with a hull designed to defend against micro meteors and nothing larger, that is solid, but is terrifyingly good vs energy weaponry. So it's like we took line tactics which they used and introduced a new way of combating line tactics by simply not lining up which is something apparently not done before in story. So it is a doctrine issue of how you choose to fight wars and what is the priority to equip your military with; not necessarily a yeah we out tech the poor xenos and kneel before our almighty unbeatable weaponry.
@Wwillswords
@Wwillswords Жыл бұрын
And no the terrans couldn't have fought the same due to it being a spinal weapon set up vs broadside set up ie there main gun wouldn't be able to fire at the enemy while circling.

@@Wwillswords Did you bother to listen to the entire video? I'm asking because you either didn't, or you didn't actually understand what was said. Please pay close attention to 4:25 through 4:37. Just in case, you don't want to spend the time, quoting: High Emperor if you read this do understand that I had not fed you any false information, the Terrans maximum range is 8.6 giga units, nearly four times our laser cannon range, .... So once again, with that range advantage, the actual tactics used DO NOT MATTER.

Ugh, the author is obviously not a native English speaker, the writing was terrible. Also Sci Fi Authors need to get into their brains that nuclear explosions DO NOT PROPAGATE IN VACUUM. The most devastating aspects of a nuke are the pressure wave (which is the destructive bit and does not propagate in a vacuum because it literally REQUIRES air pressure which literally DOES NOT EXIST IN SPACE). Second is the Radiation, to be fair that WOULD be an issue, but spaceships are literally radiation shielded against all the radiation coming from the damned star, which is actually WORSE. Absolutely terrible. Sorry, but terrible. The narration was as good as could be expected, but for a change I actually read the text. I can do better than that on a blind drunk and with a broken arm. Probably why I never actually read the story on Reddit.... I avoid text based stories with so many.... mistakes..... A sole is the bottom of a shoe, or a kind of bottom feeding fish, it is not a SOUL... And that is just one of MANY examples.... I can forgive one or two errors... but so many? Nope.....

True, Nules don't propagate in space if they explode isolated, the thing is that if they explode right next to your ship or worse, inside of your ship, all that energy released within the ship will vaporize the ship itself like a high energy laser would vaporize a cube of ice.
