HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

That's what happened in WWII in the US, everything was converted to a war economy and supply their troops overseas both the european and pacific theaters. Japan failed to make up its lost heavy industry because the US destroyed it and blocked all imports. Germany failed to make up its losses because it was not only fighting on two fronts, but because it too had been blockaded.

I think this old quote covers both stories quite nicely: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." The first story: they gave us a common enemy and removed our restraint by committing gross war crimes. The second story: outsides came to our galaxy and started to hurt our friends (even if our friends thought us weaklings, they're still OUR friends, goddamnit!)... bad move.

If your talking about the fight against Covid-19, we had too many quislings and or people who didn't understand that it was a fight and there were losses. The US did "fight back" with a short lock down while we got PPE for the front lines and vaccines rolled out in ~a year. Not the best effort we've ever done. Unfortunately it's hard to galvanize people against a enemy that you can't see and doesn't leave exact tell tail signs that it killed them. And we've "co-existed" with others like it.

Wait... no this is not humanity i know. They would have put the fleet on the edge for 5 years, so in that time they could develop new weapons and build massive armadas of battleships, super battleships and planet killers, well as next generation FTL enabling them to move to other galaxies in quick succession.... and then finish the job by taking out the treat that still remained, then finally pulling back the fleets and dismantling them to continue the time of peace. Now that is how humanity would have dealt the treat and given proper reason for the other races fear and more over respect them.

The weird thing is the aliens only had to "fight" New York? I assume this is in an alternate reality where City States are still the thing and they didn't have to fight the United States. I've heard you don't want to cause trouble in the country due to long guns and hunters. In cities you'll be in trouble for the exact opposite reason. You're now in knife fight/ small arms range (concealment).
