@brandonschwertley27232 жыл бұрын
Very cool addition to DCS, and awesome to see you both working together in the rotor craft. One thing on tactics for that first engagement, the tank would actually be a serious threat before anything else. It is an accepted tactic by at least US tank crews to shoot attack helicopters with the main gun. Which can hit your craft with a sabot round going mach 4+. They can range you and get a high probability of hit before your missile lands. This will either force the helicopter to take evasive action which can disrupt the aim of the laser, or outright kill the helicopter which will have the same effect. This is especially dangerous when the tank is facing you so their thermal imaging can easily see you. Assuming the crew is actively in the tank of course. Another thing to be aware of, is some modern tanks are equipped with laser detection systems. They can tell if someone has painted the vehicle with a laser designator, and can react accordingly. IE, scanning for the person attacking, taking evasive action, etc. So even with a flanking shot you may not be safe, and your pilot should be aware. That way they can start evading if the tank turret rotates toward you. I know DCS likely does not have any of this modeled, but it is something to think about from a realism perspective.
@EvolvedTactical2 жыл бұрын
Range shows them a little over 5000m from the T80, which is 1k past the max range of it's main gun. Tank is the least of their concerns. Honestly, they should have dropped the SA 15 first, but hindsight is always 20/20.
@myopicthunder2 жыл бұрын
@@EvolvedTactical Another concern with Soviet and Russian tanks is barrel launched ATGMs with a range of 5K and further with newer models
@brandonschwertley27232 жыл бұрын
I believe that maximum effective range of 4km is for armored targets. Which is the main focus of a tank's main gun. However that doesn't mean the round stops going past that point. And even if the round can no longer penetrate a tank as intended, it can certainly kill a lightly skinned helicopter. The one main issue could be ranging, some laser rangefinders may not get a solution on the target past the max range. It can still be shot at though, if the crew understands their equipment well enough. I will agree the Hind was a strange first target, unless it was the primary objective.
@EvolvedTactical2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonschwertley2723 max range is exactly that: the maximum range the fired projectile can reach. It's the max range, not max effective range.

Pretty solid crew coordination. If you have time store your priority targets, after the first impact you should be able to slave to the next target minimizing engagement time. If targets are close together, launch the 2nd missile a few seconds after the first. Once you impact the first keep lasing and bring your cursor to second target.

The apache becomes even more crazy now that they're adding Spike NLOS with 20 mile range, and a manual control mode so you can fire it while not exposing yourself and pilot the missile to the target. At 20 miles you're still outside the effective range of a Tor air defense system.

I’m not a help pilot but was a cobra crewchief, the hellfire is a fire and forget missile so couldn’t you move to engage the next target after engaging the first instead of waiting for the first to impact? Just thinking
@shd46182 жыл бұрын
I think the Hellfire in the initial release is a laser variant. I may be wrong, but the target needs "painting" with a laser for the missle to follow all the way to impact. Not the case with the radar hellfires that come later with the fcr. They're true fire and forget.
@kornykidd02 жыл бұрын
From Casmo’s hellfire video he shows a semi-fire and forget ripple method with the laser hellfires too. If you pace the release of the missile and the targets are close enough together you can shift from one target to the other and destroy both. It does look like you still need to paint for impact though with the laser variants
@roadsweeper12 жыл бұрын
That needs the longbow radar module on the main rotor, which hasn't been implemented yet.

hello, in a documentary about Apatch they said. Apatch can target up to 60 targets at once and send them with data link to others. And shoot all the hellfires and destroy more targets in practically one moment. Is it true? if so, why don't you target more dangerous targets at once and destroy at one time? Is it at all possible in DCS? Awesome video man.

you need the radar for that, something that will be added to the apache later, this is an early access variant with just starter functions to get it out to people to mess around with, the development will continue stage by stage.

Did you guys shut off the engines when you lost your tail rotor at the end? I remember watching a documentary some years ago in which a helicopter pilot said that was the proper thing to do in the event of a tail rotor loss or failure, so as to eliminate the main rotor’s torque and maintain control of the helicopter. Of course at that point you’re in autorotation and have to pick a spot to land in the field.

@michaelballard73232 жыл бұрын
So it seems you have an impossibly long time to case the joint without detection. Good thing, since the Army apparently only sent one damn Apache. I thought the Apache is capable of engaging some absurd number of targets simultaneously. Once you figure out the targets, I’d target as many as it would let me before firing the first shot. Then I’d unload. Light that camp up, and then beat it. I think IRL they’d have this target mapped and prioritized off a satellite image, and then the USAF would sneak up and drop a bunch of smarties on it.
@roadsweeper12 жыл бұрын
I belive this capability is only with the longbow radar mounted on top of the main rotor, which this one, does not have.
