This is too funny. I started with this tatic yesterday. And found it to a very good tatic to use. You just need to know when to break off to avoid getting sprayed. I also noticed the ground fire did not hit as much as compared to hover when close to target. Hover is good for a good stand-off attack. The zoom and boom are also easier on stability vs. getting it into a hover.

In terrain like that, I would think constant movement would be best. In hilly and forested terrain, hovering pop up attacks might work better. I could only guess though, I was an artilleryman, not a pilot. Ha.

I used to play Apache Havoc back in the day with a keyboard. It made things interesting. Took a long time to figure out how to use the tail rotator for making some turns. DCS is leaps and bounds above that game.

Good Mission. I'm learning the Apache now. It's a cool aircraft for sure. WIth the FCR added it's a full on super combo killing machine. Fun and good change from usual jet aircraft.

Btw you’ll have to set the gun to auto every time you select it. When you change weapons, it will default back to whatever range it was set at (1500m by default).

Did a sortie earlier with an excellent aussie pilot. He was gunning while I was mucking about with hellfires at the same time. I'm still a bit clunky as his gunner, but we were actively engaging some dozen russian tanks with barrel-fired ATGMs they shot at us, 14.5mm, etc. We had hellfires and gun... he could focus on evading and keeping us able to fire when needed, while I lased and fired missiles. We wrecked them all in a hurry.

George seems to be more comfortable in combat than Jester, at least to me. Additionally, the newest versions of the Hellfire are fire and forget, using millimeter wave radar in their design. If you mentioned the version of the hellfire you were armed with in the video, I apologize for having missed it.

He was getting contact well before the pipeline. I've heard that one of the problems with the cobra in Vietnam was that it was difficult to hear contact compared with other helo's. I wonder if they have some sort of way of dealing with that in the Apache and newer cobra.

I swore hellfires go up before nailing them from up high. Your hellfire seems like they are taking a direct path straight at your target.

I believe that is a mode you can select when firing them, to direct fire or lob them in.

@@GrowlingSidewinder if you can lob them I would do that, it works better when multiple targets are close to each other. Shoot while locked onto a target, delay 4-5 seconds, and shoot another hellfire. As soon as the first target is hit designate another target. George seems better than Jester, I am not sure George will do that for you.

I've had a few times when flying the Apache on target runs where I signal George to shoot hellfire missiles and he won't. The game signals as though it has received the command and he says "firing" and "engaging" but the box on the IHAD never appears and says msl not rdy on Mfd. Did I accidently click on something that changed this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

All the apache dcs videos I’ve watched mention the ah64d. However I don’t see the radar dome on top of the blades. Are there apache Ds that ARENT longbows?

Radar dome is optional. It's not simulated yet. Thats why it's not on by default in the dcs version of the chopper at the moment. It will come as the aircraft proceeds through early access and at that point everyone will have a bubble on their head.

Not all Longbows have the FCR. Generally, IIRC one bird is equipped with FCR in a flight and provides the data to the other members. All Longbows can use the data, but there's no need for everyone to carry the thing.

This is actually simulated. The air takes some time to reach the ground though so you can not see the dust being kicked up behind the chopper because of the video angles. It is there though.
