I believe they had a similar idea back in the early 2000s, but with F-22s in place of the F-35s (they were still in development) and instead of F-15s they planned a modified version of the B-1 bomber called the B-1R, equipped with supercruise-capable engines from the Raptor and would carry an unholy amount of AMRAAMs. Sadly, the B-1R never came to be.

Its amazing how the medical field and the military have improved in technology. Im dumbfounded every day knowing that in 1945 we had propeller powered planes like the spitfires and the bf-109s, fast forward 30 years and we're at tomcats. Fast forward another 10-15 years and we're developing the first eurofighters, f-22s,f-35. Just to think in our life 30 years will turn us from boys to men, doesn't seem so much does it? But when you work together, put a team together where you have a mix of the oldtimers, the middle agers and the youngsters you have a 360° realm of knowledge and possibilities. Im a man now and im finally starting to see the good things in life that just make you somewhat emotional to know what we're all truly capable of individually and as a team.
