Oh, the episode in which you realize Kabru's party is actually not weak. As some people have pointed out elsewhere, they just aren't a PvE party, they are better at PvP. You can see Kabru is as much of an anthropology/politics nerd as Laios is about monsters. And because of that, Kabru is not as good at fighting monsters even though he is quite a competent fighter, while Laios thrives in the dungeon to a surprising extent considering how much of a goofy guy he tends to be. EDIT: 17:11 Yup, they are pretty much foils to each other. 21:35 It is funny that Senshi and Marcille treat Chilchuck as a kid (because they are from long lived races, and it does not help that half-foots look a little childish even if they are older), but from the perspective of a younger half-foot, Chilchuck is basically a middle aged union man that plays by the book, insists on proper procedure and that you pay your taxes.
@hayakueon32308 ай бұрын
Chilchuck prefers to do things by the book because of how much people can screw you over without a contract Mickbell is the typical more money but doesn't realise that it's risky af to go without contracts. If Kabru is meant to be more like a generic protagonist it makes sense. In a lot of manga and anime fights the hero is always picking apart how the villain fights to figure out a weakness. That is actually something common with modern series because One Piece, Dragon Ball, Toriko, and such had heroes fighting monsters constantly as often as humanoid foes.
@Mister_DM8 ай бұрын
Kabru always felt to me like the total opposite of Laios. Laios is a sweet bean, that cares a lot about other people while being socially awkward. He is skilled and knows a lot about monsters and the dungeon. But is very bad at dealing with Humans. Kabru on the other hand feels like a very cold person and doesn't like people unless they fit his specific world view. But is nonetheless very charismatic and skilled at dealing with people, while being completely oblivious about monsters and the dungeon. EDIT: Apparently I had a lot more to say :P This author in my opinion does a very good job at writing characters with various levels of and characteristic neurodiversity. With Laios showing clear signs of Autism being fully capable of having and expressing strong emotions and empathy, as well as social attachments, without being able to properly read or express them. Clearly caring deeply for his friends and family, and even total strangers. Going out of his way to help and care for others. But still failing to read social situations often coming off as rude or inappropriate despite his good intentions. And Kabru showing varying degrees of sociopathy, where he has a difficult time feeling empathy or forming strong attachments, but nonetheless developed advanced emotional intelligence and social skills. Being able to decipher and deduce complex social interactions, like he did to reach the conclusion that they were following Laios' Party as well as their current circumstances. But still failing to realize that the siblings had no ulterior motive for the financial help they provided or acknowledging that kissing Rin was deeply meaningful to her. As he cannot understand peoples feelings beyond cold logical reasoning. And Both of them displaying incredibly vast and deep knowledge of a strictly limited number fields, that they have obsessed over. With Laios being utterly fascinated by the dungeon and its monsters, from their anatomy to their ecology, and yes the culinary opportunities they present. Using every chance he gets to tell people interesting facts he knows, and trying to make them eat monsters. While Kabru seems to be genuinely interested in socio-economics and geo-politics. Analyzing the actions of those around him as well as the systems they use, from their emotional states to how the nobility manages its land and resources as well as international pressures. Being clearly at ease and exited to share his theories and personal philosophies. To be clear I AM NOT AN EXPERT, But I am Autistic and have done extensive research on the subject of Neurodiversity. I'm also an anime only and have neither read the manga or any other external sources like Interviews or Author Notes. This is simply my very limited personal opinion. Its also Important for me to clarify that neither character is inherently problematic or excused. Laios should not be punished for his inappropriate remarks, but should still be reminded when he is being inappropriate. And Kabru despite being shown to be somewhat manipulative and outright brutal, should not be vilified. The major difference between the two at this point is that Laios has a support system that recognizes and tries to correct his poor behavior without being judgmental, while Kabru is surrounded by sycophants that do not point out his problematic behavior and instead praise it. That should be the focus of character analyses and not a simple Laios Good, Kabru Bad.
@tobiasreinhold76428 ай бұрын
Kabru is basically the anti-thesis to Laios. Laios has massive interest in monsters, very little interest in people. That's why he's great at dealing with monsters, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, studying their behaviour, things like that. On the flipside he's bad at dealing with people, because he just doesn't care about them enough. Kabru is the exact opposite. He doesn't know how to fight against monsters, because he just sees all of them as the same thing: A monster you need to kill. He doesn't care about their individual strengths and weaknesses, the reasons in their behaviour. On the flipside, he's really interested in people, the weirder the better. That's why he can remember so many details about different people, why he can manipulate them so easily. He's completely fascinated by humans and wants to know every aspect of what they might do and why they might behave a specific way.

Great analysis! I just want to add that Kabru and Laios were both influenced by their respective trauma during their youth that we will learn of later and it's fascinating how they developed from those. There is something that is explained about Kabru in the official Dungeon Meshi Guide is the very extensive and... let's say "intense" education Kabru received that shaped who he is today. Again a great contrast with Laïos on that subject.
@Mister_DM8 ай бұрын
@@tobiasreinhold7642 I utterly agree, the Author has the clear intention of posing Kabru as a narrative inversion of Laios, showing how someone who has essentially the same limitations as him (mentally speaking, just in different areas) can produce two very different individuals. The only thing you said that I would not so much disagree with but definitely word differently, is that Laios doesn't "Care" about people. Laios certainly isn't "Interested" in other people but he definitely "Cares" about them, going out of his way to keep them safe, and offering his help to others, even complete strangers, and showing distress when they get hurt.

24:45 That's part of it. Falin has a lot of compassion... towards _monsters_ . Same as her brother. While they have been seen to care about their party members, the problem is that, if they were to wind up in positions of power, they would be _obligated to_ care about more than that. And them blindly supporting past co-workers (who made their own choices and decided to be rotten eggs) has an off smell to someone sniffing out mess. Like, he's not at-all including himself in the running for 'might rule all this one day' (his party does enough of that watching him connect dots like it's fun), but it's a fair read _specifically_ as an outsider looking in.
@hikaruhunter18458 ай бұрын
The big parallel is that Kabru is invested in humans while Laios is invested in monsters. This is reflected in their combat abilities with Laios using his knowledge to slay countless monsters while Kabrus uses human anatomy and thus freezes up when dealing with monster anatomy. His big issue with the Touden siblings is that they aren't interested in other people and only really open up somewhat with those they spend a lot of time with. Fallin is caring but is also a loner as seen in school while Laios would rather go on about monster trivia than deal with people and their issues. Neither of which likely even want to become the ruler of an entire kingdom in the first place.

I think Dub Kabru critiqued Laios for not being a leader instead of not caring about people. At least not a leader who could handle this large of a domain. Which is a much more valid criticism. Laios hasn't given thought to ruling, but his party is one of the best still in the running. So there's a very real chance that if the offer of the king who turned to dust in the opening scene of the first episode holds water, Laios could become king of the Dungeon. Also that king may well have been Delgal trying to escape, so the Mad Mage might be looking for a body when there's not even a ghost.

I view the Laios and Kabru dynamic as they’re both equally autistic (or at least some form of neurodivergent) but with opposite interests. While Liaos is really bad with social interactions, he’s obsessed with monsters. Their biology, fighting styles, diets etc. That’s what’s always at the forefront of his mind. He’s a sweet guy who loves his friends and is very involved with his party tho. Kabru on the other is the opposite. He’s fascinated by people and how their minds work, what makes them tick. Being in the dungeons is fun for him because every person they come across is a new puzzle piece he gets to fit into this maze of interpersonal relationships and different driving motivations. He’s here for the TEA. And knowing so much about people means he knows how to kill one easily. (Like he said, no matter the race, they all have the same vital points) unfortunately he can’t fight monsters for shit tho, which is why they keep dying lol. And this is why he’s been so interested in Laios. He can’t for the life of him figure out this guy’s motive

What you said about Namri is true, it's not her fault but the lord of the island didn't care and blamed all the dwarfs for what her dad did. And after that the dwarven community basically banished her due to their dwarven culture and laws. Dwarfs are big on community, they care more about local politics more than their own king. So when one guy made them all look bad on the island, they had no choice in their laws but to punish the entire family with Namari included. Which really sucked because her dad skipped town and left her to take all the heat. She didn't know what he was doing, she just considered him a dead-beat and stayed away from him as much as she could. But she was the only one from that family left on the island so she had to bear the brunt of the hatred. And she didn't have enough money to buy passage off the island so she was stuck. It is also why Namari is so focused on getting paid. Her only hope to make amends and be accepted back is to pay back everything her dad stole. Or at least she feels that that is the only option she has left at this point. I don't know if that'll actually work but she's desperate at this point. It's also why she worked with Laios and later the old gnome guy and his party. She literally can't work with any other groups that have another dwarf in them or it'll cause problems. Senshi is probably the only exception to the other dwarves on the island because he's basically the equivalent of a crazy hermit living alone in a pit. He's the ONLY dwarf on the island who wasn't affected by what Namari's dad did and he's not part of any other dwarf community... I hope you get to see Senshi's back story this season.
