As a Senegalese who was born and raised in Thailand because I’m also Thai I’ve always seen the picture of bamba growing up whenever we would gather around the Senegalese community for Quran and some sort of dhikr. I visited Touba in 2011 as a kid and was invited into the home of the founder because my father was one of their best students. At that time I was still too young to communicate in foreign languages or innerstand the importance of where I was (they even bestowed a name upon me at that time which I try to reject, but for some time I start to accept it was Sohkna Amy Chiekh), but with the knowledge of Bambas system of education I now overstand how deeply I’m aligned to this path and how deeply it’s been resonating within me throughout my whole life. I am 20 now and yes i will livicate my actions towards a reform process that betters the world, but only Allah knows what impact I will make and how I will get there. 16:21

Mashalla brother! Words can’t describe my satisfaction. You did a great job. Of course, a 40-minute video is not enough to describe such a great Sheikh and suffi like Khadim Rassul but as a native of Senegal and a proud disciple of Khadim Rassul, I can guarantee you that this video was amazing. But never forget that we have to physically fight in the ways of Jihad as well. Don’t be fooled into living a pacifist subservient lifestyle. Peace and stability are derived from war and battle. So we can lead good peaceful lives as Muslims, but don’t forget that even Rasulullah (PBUH) fought the Pagan Arabs in order to spread the true word of Islam.

Congratulations for the extensive research and quality of the output. Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s life and teachings could certainly not be covered in a 40mins video, but you managed to give a relatively fair introduction to his philosophy and the way of life he taught. His message was and still is for the entire world and his teachings are even more important and powerful in the present days with a world that is so polarized. Always reminds me of the following Quranic verse: Holy Quran 49:13 O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

Surely he was a great and wise spiritual leader nd did the right thing not to confront the powerful ruthless French collonial superpower of the time in that region who would do more harm to the Muslim population because the Mullahs had taken the ummah into dark age by distancing themselves nd their blind followers from academic, scientific and technological development nd progress which the west ,after their dark age had embraced from Muslim in Spain becoming superior to dominate Muslim powers In the balcans, middle east ,Asia Minor,Spain nd the Indian subcontinent . No wonder the present Turkish nd Bangladesh authorities are keeping the Mullahs and their syncophants away from political power or control to avoid economic and national bankruptcy similar to the fate of Pakistan where the same corrupt and depraved Mullahs supported by the Pakistani Army corrupted and ruled by CIA .

Wonderful informative video on Bamba! I was in Senegal in 1999 and 2001/2002 and read about Bamba and Sufism, then went to Magal Touba and stayed in the compund of Cheick Modou Habib, also had deep connection with Baye Fall who i see as my cheick… so mainly Baye Fall. it was magical and i felt a deep connection and love for this culture… though i am actually a buddhist… but i try to study and relate to other religions, specialfly hinduism and sufism on a heart level, seeing that these mystical traditions have the same goal… but use different words and language according to time, place and culture. Actually i see the different religions as different languages describing the same Divine, magical, mystical reality… with the same goal of peace and harmony… arguably with different means… and some more refined than others… but studying and engaging with different religions is important for religious harmony and world peace… all spiritual people should try and study and integrate in a different religion / group… just to expand their heart and mind beyond their own group… to experience the basic humanity and unity that we all share… One Love… beyond duality ✨👌🏽✨♥️✨🔥✨

In every religious tradition, there seems to be a contest between pacifistic and militaristic elements. Like mysticism, quietism and relucsion, it pops up everywhere.

I think you will find it is less binary than that. Depends a lot on the context. If you leave Iran alone I am pretty sure they will be passive. If you bomb them then those passive people will become very non-passive.

I thank you so much for you work ! It is so inspiring ... Peaceful coexistence is beautiful and a priority when it's possible... in Palestine it means that the settlers are stealing more and more territory and relegating the natives to second-class citizens with fewer rights and barely enough to survive... the Palestinians didn't react when they saw the settlers arriving en masse because they were pacifists and that's what allowed the settlers to treat them like animals... I'm not saying that taking up arms is the solution for them because the Palestinians have exemplary faith and patience and we are told to be patients with a beautiful patience . The most important lesson to learn from Skeykh Bamba is that we must prioritize purification of the heart if we are to find real solutions to oppression, for Allâh constantly tells us that He does not love injustice. Solutions that we can live up to and that will change the world profoundly. Perhaps a second piece of wisdom to take from Sheykh Bamba's life is that spirituality means action in Islam and it is amazing ! We can see also the propensity of people to idolize guides, and use a position for their own interests under the guise of spirituality. I find it very interesting to pay attention to this so as not to lose sight of the ultimate goal and humility of the Prophet, who ate what the poor ate and didn't dress to be distinguished from other believers.

It is unfortunate that Senegal is such a small country. If it had the size and political influence of Nigeria, Egypt, or Algeria - the recent history of Africa might be very different.

Very interesting video Filip, as always. You didn't mention though, the famous episode of Sheik Bamba allegedly throwing his prayer rug on the see to perform his salat while the French were deporting him. It is very common in the iconography about him and this image is often seen in many Senegalese homes.

Senegal embodies so perfectly the system of governance that we should've adopted in Tunisia post independence. Our president then Habib Bourguiba was so enamored with Ataturk that he ended up dissolving every Sufi order we had, reducing them to street performers and singers people listen to during Ramadan... Today they are confined to their Zawiya completely forgotten and shunned by many (due to Wahabism). Bourguiba went further then that and closed (temporarily) the oldest University in the word (Zitouna mosque) and Second oldest mosque in Africa after Kairaouen Mosque. Tunisians today are completely disillusioned with Islam as a viable political force especially after the monumental failure of Ennahdha Islamic party. Who knew that for all this time we were missing the point: Islam shouldn't be a political party, nor should it be a political front, what Islam should be is a structural component that permeates the society horizontally not vertically. Alas, no political analyst in Tunisia understood this because they all went to Sorbone and for them, French secularism (laicité) is a matter of faith not reason.. something akin to religious dogma.. how ironic.. Sulamyia, Tijanya, Kadirya and the more recent madanya are surviving... barely. I hope one day we'll look to Senegal and follow their example. Big respect to my Senegalese brothers and sisters ❤ and don't bring your lasers to Cote d'ivoire, no CAN for you next year😛
