as a " person of the book " I can say that the most pacifist people I've ever met were Muslims, they are also some of my favourite people to have theological descusions with. I've had way worse experiences from Evangelical fundamentalists telling me I'm going at me about this rapture concept that the vast majority of Christians dont subscribe to. Muslims seem to have this ability to use such wonderfully grounded logic when they talk about God and I really enjoy " talking religion " with them ( name drop intended 👍🏻) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✝️🤝🏼☪️

They who have ears to hear, let them hear: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit! I tell ye, truly, Jesus of Nazareth is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. He is the anointed one, for he is, Jesus Christ. God the Father has raised him from the dead; who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God! Angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, but by him. They who believe and are baptized with the Holy Spirit shall be saved; but they who believe not shall be damned. For they who believe not on him, shall die in their sins! I tell ye now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father! There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you! They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God... Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask: "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen." 1 John 2:2 KJV 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Acts 13:26-33 KJV 26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, *and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.* 27 *For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.* 28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. 29 *And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.* 30 *But God raised him from the dead:* 31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. 32 *And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,* 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 1 Peter 3:22 KJV 22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. John 14:6 KJV 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Mark 16:16 KJV 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. John 8:24 KJV 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Acts 2:38 KJV 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Luke 11:13 KJV 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? John 14:21-24 KJV 21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.* 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.* 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and *the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.*

It would be very wonderful if the people of the world would accept one another and live along side one another. Maybe just maybe there is just One Creator and it gives comfort and insight to different tribes in different ways. Love and acceptance should be the Law. For it is only you who faces whatever judgement you believe for yourself. There needs to be more vocal pacifists and peaceful people of all religions. Lest we shall see creation burn.

I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada. I unfortunately witness intolerance and anti-muslim sentiments, words and behaviours regularly, including inside my own family. Your videos are so appeasing to the social and familial unease I sometimes feel. The present one being about a pacifist strand of Islam among West African Peoples is especially soothing - and very interesting. The fact that many, if not most West African Peoples speak french means Québec has a special connection with them, we have welcomed many immigrants from that area. I also find the visual depictions you use of the "Black Muslim educator" figure, the ones that look like drawings or paintings, somehow endearing. They make Salim Suwari and Ahmadou Bamba seem like gentle and warm persons. Cheers, friend.

Thank you for providing insight into his person, which does provide a probably explanation for a very unique historical West African phenomenon I call "WAGING PEACE" that occurred twice in the Senegambia Kingdom of Baol Cayor (1600 - 1610 under Ma Khouredia Kouli, and 1763 - 1769 under Mba Compasse). During this time in this place, all disputes where settled and no aggression occurred, giving us a model for the future. I will do more research to find if Al Hajj ir his followers spoke to these Leaders, let me know if you find any connections. Peace to you all.

Why was the slave trade a main source of business if west Africa was peaceful?
@AfricanTvFilmaker
@AfricanTvFilmaker Жыл бұрын
@Civitatuccillo It would be instructive to exchange the term "Slave" with "Serf", in medieval Africa a slave was essentially an economic status that maintained many social liberties. As a matter of fact, many African "Slaves" had climbed to very high social status while still being a "Slave". Also in many folk tales, Slaves were known to leave their Masters and later return to work at their own comfort. The institution of African slavery was inherently different from European "Chattle Slavery" which removed personhood and reduced the individual to the status of an animal.

Jihad doesn't mean to kill someone who is not Muslim. Jihad means fight against murderers or other criminals who are dangerous to peace. These criminals can be among Muslims as well. While only state can take armed action against criminals. Individual can't take any action. Its clearly mentioned in Quran. There are many kinds of Jihad. For instance Quran says the biggest jihad is to clean one's own heart. Telling and speaking the truth before a cruel Ruler is also a Jihad. When it's all said and done I don't think religion really makes people do anything. The reason why Suwari had a peaceful interpretation is because he was a peaceful man, violent people will have a violent interpretation of Islam. That being said I do think that proselytizing is still wrong. It is better than violence because you're not physically hurting anyone, but you are still imposing yourself on people. Unless your religion is actually evil who somebody prays to is nobody's business. Also, you don't do good deeds so that you can convert people to your religion you do good deeds because it's the right thing to do and you care about people. When I was younger I heard stories of Suwari and Thierno Bocar. It brings me comfort today to understand why peace was important to promote and why the image of many religions are marred in our time as none of them bring peace in fact. I understand now that Islam is what it is based upon the disposition of the people who bring it, Court it, develop it and spread it. It is interesting to note that the French sponsored many African Muslims to go to Mecca, it is interesting that all the movements by Muslims Brotherhoods were allowed to be simply because they served the agenda of the colonial powers. Pacifism then benefits the rulers at the expense of the ruled.

Filip! As a Muslim i want to say something regarding the two things you mentioned. You said before starting the war, Muslims would tell them to accept Islam and the other was to pay tax. I want to clarify that this is not the case as this was subjected to Prophet's life. The rule is part of "Itmam e Hujjat". Omar RA only gave these options to those lands where prophet had sent word of Islam earlier. No one now can place these two things in front of a society and start Jihad bil Saif (Jihad of Sword). Islam never forces itself onto someone. It offers understanding and one cannot be a Muslim when it's not through heart. Those two conditions were due to Itmam e Hujjat for prophet as all prophets had this rule before.

John Zuma talked about this. In where you’re coming to the end of some of the most violent jihad‘s or the most violent forms of the jihad‘s that were happening in central tropical Africa at this. And examining this a lot of the caliphs and the clerics around that time were viewing all of the jihad‘s, and the subsequent slave, reading as very negative so this was the thing that was motivating them to lean more towards pacifism, in the name of preservation

Is there a religion or school of thought that has resonated most with you? I know that you focused on Islam academically, but that you mentioned not being convinced. I feel the same way, even though Islam somehow draws me to it more than any other religion (which also doesn't make sense, because Advaita Vedanta, Daoism, and some forms of Buddhism seem to be more logical and believable to me, personally). I enjoy reading the holy books of all religions to have a better understanding of the many beliefs and cultures of the world, and consider myself on an erratic path towards some kind of truth and meaning. While each holy book has pearls of wisdom, I always come across passages that I simply can not accept, as they have the distinct feel of being influenced and corrupted by man, not to mention the extra-scriptural dogma that attaches itself to most religions. Instead, I end up attempting to combine the similar wisdom and philosophies common in all religions into my own moral and spiritual framework. However, then I have no sense of community. Some days I ask myself if it's worth having that sense of community while not being fully convinced or committed. A deep part of me feels that it's wrong, but some days I still strongly consider it. I find it discouraging that I haven't found one that my heart and mind will fully accept, and I deeply envy those that can have true, full faith in a particular religion. It seems liberating and wonderful, and provides access a strong community. The struggle of an agnostic seeker is a difficult one. Thank you for all of your content.

Now, another thing that is interesting to me, is once again, you see Africans take ideas that are not necessarily theirs and applying it in a fashion that is holistic to them, and not having Tatian for advantageous for outside groups to come in and dominate. John Zuma, in his book the legacy of Islam in tropical Africa Took the time to point out one of the reasons why the Arab merchants developed this enemies towards the ruling class that was there was because there was no way for them to own land but if the technicality here is becoming Muslim or knowing the Koran, then Africans with their own chronic schools have already accomplished that

When you read the Quran, it specifically states the conduct towards people who they consider as idol worshipers. And never at any point did it say attack them for the sake of convergence it was always attack for the sake of self-defense. And I believe that they were talking about the people that they were struggling to get around that time which were the Abyssinians and the Egyptian’s because they were the only people in the area to fit the descriptions. Who cares about a idol peddler they care about the idol worshipers that were doing slavery on them.
