I think once Ballan enters the (presumed) Mortis temple, perhaps through a World-Between-Worlds portal or annex, he emerges in the Mortis realm a much younger version of himself. This not only allows his character to be recast, but may also set up Ballan as being a replacement for one of the gods. So in Season 2, you see Ballan only from behind until he emerges from the portal and then his new younger persona takes over. I think that's one of the few ways they can continue the character without writing him out of the script entirely, which would be a shame because he was clearly one of the most compelling figures we've gotten in the Disney Star Wars era.
@chibakutensei8799 Жыл бұрын
Why would Baylan be one of the Gods? This doesn’t make any sense, unless they put him on a redemption arc next season
@StarGeezerTim Жыл бұрын
@@chibakutensei8799 There are two very inescapable things that the show has to contend with. First, Ray Stephenson is dead. He won't be reprising this role. So if the character is going to continue in any meaningful way, they have to recast because the cost of reproducing him digitally from here out is going to be prohibitively expensive, and they're still trying to come to grips with the technology so folks don't get weirded out. There's also the digital rights that Ray's estate has over his image and likeness, but that's for another day. Second, he's at some sort of Mortis shrine. This after spending the entire season talking about a "power" that cannot be fathomed. He is neither Jedi nor Sith, but somewhere betwixt the two (rather like the Father.) The daughter is already "dead" or at least transformed (as evidenced by the crumbled statue of her at the shrine.) The Clone Wars strongly hinted that Ahsoka herself is something of an avatar of the Daughter now, since the Daughter laid down her own life to save Ahsoka's during that whole story arch. I'm just trying to figure out how the writers are going to propel the story and the character without Ray going forward. If you have a better theory, let's hear it.

Also should be noted. When Ezra has the same emiter with his master, and jedi is often considered similar with samurai, that means Ezra's sword has the same Tsuba with his master. And a Tsuba(katana handguard) is considered as "The Soul" of a samurai. Or in this case a Jedi. So, basically, it means Ezra carries with him the same "soul" as Kanan Jarrus. My biggest issue it Thrawn being changed from the books. He never seemed like he was all in it for the Empire. The Empire was just a tool for him to help the Chiss. I would have thought after hearing the Empire was defeated, he would take his ship and new army home to protect his world from the Grysk.

Honestly, I felt pretty underwhelmed after the season finale. I've been thinking each episode "wow, these are lots of interesting storylines, how will they possibly tie them up by the end?", and I felt I was left with more questions than answers. I think it's an amazing series, and I may just want more/longer episodes and less hand-waving, more questions keep getting introduced and left unanswered. I realize they may have had to retcon lots of scenes last minute, maybe unable to tie off Baylan's story like they planned. Also, I was really not happy with hand-waving away Ezra's escape back to the fleet, while it was a fun humorous callback to Rebels and dressing up as stormtroopers, nothing about the journey or escape was shown. Maybe they'll touch on this in the second season.

I have a theory: Balyan awakens abeloth. She wants to escape and return to the main galaxy, with or without balyan, and uses her knowledge and power to open portal to return. Ahsoka, Ezra, and sabine are trapped after abeloth leaves, but need to go after her, and the only way to return is for one repeat abeloths transformation by drinking the font of power and bathing in knowledge. And only ahsoka can do it and still be good and not corrupted. Ahsoka does, and opens a portal for them to return. Balyan might have also gained power and knowledge before leaveing, and the 3 of them will become the new power family, with balyan as the father, ahsoka as the daughter, and abeloth as the son.

The fact they brought Mortis Gods in live action is amazing. I think next season, or whatever will continue this story, will focus on the planet in one hand, and on Thrawn in the other hand. I really hope Ahsoka, Sabine and Shinn will be focused only on what Baylan is doing, while Hera and Ezra take care of Thrawn once again. They finally showed Anakin after Darth Vader, after Return of the Jedi, and I'm absolutely happy about this, i wanted to see Hayden' s Anakin again since years, and finally happened. But I've just one critic thought... Did Ezra felt anything on his permanence on Peridea? Neither a small fraction of the Force calling him while he was there? Father's and Son's statues were there, but are they? Daughter is clearly there, because of the owl, and because of Ahsoka too i guess. 4 Force sensitives and a sign of Mortis Gods in the same place.. What will happen? 🤣 Ahsoka already met them all 3, she knows them a bit, she even has 1 of them has her personal guardian, the symbol of light, maybe this will be her advantage..
@SG-1-GRC Жыл бұрын
I thought all the fight scenes were well done and obviously the zombie troopers held back, much of the time Morgan and Ahsoka fought on the monument, because she used her control of them to make them hold back. She clearly wanted the satisfaction of killing Ahsoka personally. That was surely obvious. Great to see Sabine finally making obvious use of the force. She definitely showed signs of being force sensitive in rebels. It largely manifested in her intuitive interpretation of art and technology and early in this show she was apparently getting a sense of Ezra still being alive. All of her force related responses were best when she was unconscious of them. Her remarkable understanding of force related imagery being unconscious because she sees it only has her artist's instincts. When she senses Ezra its when sleeping. So all not related to her conscious mind. When consciously trying to use thr force her insecurities about her suitability, her Mandalorian psyche and her age all work against her. Ahsoka reaches her when she's relatively relaxed in Ezra's presence and not really focused on anything but how happy she is to be hanging out with Ezra again. Similar situation with the fight against the zombie troopers. She is too consciously thinking about using her sabre and so Ahsoka directs her to use her blasters. Then she simply finds her flow, surfing the force, and suddenly she's fighting like both a Mandalorian and a Jedi. Its very well choreographed.

Towards the end, after Ahsoka dismounts the howler to greet the Noti, you can clearly see both Lightsabers hanging from her belt. The short Lightsaber on her left side, the one that was sliced in half by Morgan Elsbeth only moments earlier appears to be fully intact. They didn't show her picking it up as Sabine picked up her helmet on the fortress platform before it came down. It seems her broken Lightsaber went down with the fortress, and yet moments later, it's clipped on her belt fully intact.. Weird that.

I first want to say that, Paul, your reviews actually prompted me to watch the series and catch up in time for the finale today. I was on the fence and simply not willing to invest the time and money into watching it. I really like Ahsoka and how she was incorporated into some of the more recent content, especially The Mandalorian. Personally, I love Rosario in the role, and she is another reason that I was watching your reviews. You've done such a great job making thoughtful, balanced, and sincere recaps and reviews that, like Filoni his-bad-self, I trust you and your take on things. So, thanks for doing what you do, and thanks for giving us enough of your personal take on things to inspire many of us to stay engaged with Star Wars. I am grateful to have been able to experience the finale as a fully-participating member of the Zeitgest! And I bought Disney+ for a month. Disney owe you a bonus. (Whatever your cut of $10 USD might be!) Ray Stevenson was great as Baylan, and it will be interesting to see what they do with the character and the planned storyline. I say the role can respectfully be recast because the character is just too important. Ray is going to be hard to replace because he just had "it" as Baylan. I believed him, I was enthralled by him, and I just wanted more. RIP Ray Stevenson. Filoni and his team of writers may simply elect to absorb the important story elements to continue telling the overall tale they are crafting. Dunno. What I do know, though, is that I trust them. And Paul!

The first two episodes kind of had to do what they did in order to get people who had it watched the animated series up to speed with where we're at with these characters. Unfortunately not everybody's going to want to sit down and watch cartoon, although Rebels was awesome in my opinion. So they kind of had to go that route with the first two episodes. The thing I didn't understand is how Sabine went from not being able to move a cup, to an advanced move like a force push of Ezra into the star destroyer. She went from 0 to 100 with a snap of a finger. And I feel like that was a silly move.

There's a very compelling fan-theory that Palpatine built the Death Star to defend the galaxy from an external threat and used it against the rebellion because he had it available, not as a distinct tool to enforce his rule. Now that we are talking about galaxies external from the traditional SW one the door is wide open here.

I would Love to see Baylan’s character continue. It is definitely sad that Ray passed and didn’t get to see the strong character that is portrayed in Ahsoka. I feel that Baylan has main character energy and I find myself wanting to watch him as much as Ahsoka and surprisingly more than Thrawn. I know it might be hard to replace him… I definitely know it’s a stretch but Ray looks to me so much like George Clooney. Hopefully George is a BIG Star Wars fan and would play this character. I know he is a great actor and could seamlessly play this role. Especially if they have him play Baylan into the upcoming movie! Not expecting much from this but I’m hoping he just might do it! 😅❤

Thanks for the breakdown, Paul! I definitely liked it more as it went on, but it's for sure not without its issues. My biggest question at the end was why are Ahsoka and crew "stuck" on that planet? Why can't they just warp out of there??? Is it just because they could get lose in the different galaxy? I guess it makes sense for Thrawn since his ship was broken, but Ahsoka's should work fine.. Also, they really need to make lightsaber fighting less ridiculous. The best example is Ahsoka having two, but using both to block instead of using one to block, and the other to cut her opponent in half..

I love that he didn’t tie everything up in a nice neat bow. It feel pretty much a certainty that Ezra will train Jacen now. He chose the correct arc to leave on a positive note there. Leaving us with even more questions about Baylan was also brilliant. Really borrowing from how questions about Vader were answered slowly in the OT(this will only make sense to those that didn’t see the prequels first). If they are headed towards Ahsoka joining Anakin I’m ok with that so her being left behind was the right move. I really enjoyed the season.

Not a bad episode by any means, but the lasting impact it left was kinda like.. “that’s it?” I was sorta hoping for a major cliffhanger or something to make us feel like we absolutely NEED to see another season. Am I the only one that felt like the finale was a huge let down? I mean for me its how Disney finally turned Star Wars into Marvel. There was no satisfying conclusion to this. It felt like a weird switch up from filoni Esrza is now back in the main universe to stare in the Heir to the Empire movie and Ashoko season 2 is sidelined into another universe and will tell a story that does not influence the sequel canon in any way. Its the same how i feel to newer Marvel series.. in the end it will not be important to watch Ashoka anymore once the Mando movie is released because it really does not tell anything that you need to know when you watch the movie and Season 2 will tell another story that only barely connects to season 1 if ever released.. and i am really not intrested enough to see how baylans story develops to be honest. Overall this season felt like much teasing and not much behind it.. and i really was frustrated in the end by all the theorys here on yt. I dont know how they came all up with Darth Maul or even Luke would be in it.. I mean i do not expected it but the end felt like a huge let down at least we got a little bit of Thrawn.

And mentions this just before the show says Ashoka was worried Sabine would turn to dark side. But Ashoka ends up staying by Sabines side anyway.
