Why not share the raw .cube files so everyone can see their actual size and data? After watching this I try generating a LUT through AI, I end up with tiny grids like 2×2×2 or 3×3×3-which aren’t really useful for detailed color work (professional LUTs are often 33×33×33). Simply opening the LUT in a text editor will confirm its size and show how it’s mapping colors. Without that, it’s hard to verify if it’s truly doing anything meaningful beyond a simple color shift.

Amazed by what ChatGPT can do. However anyone who knows about colour grading is well aware that you can't recreate a look just with just slapping a LUT on it. There is a lot more to it than that. It will also vary greatly depending on the footage you are grading. I can see AI being built-in NLE eventually and analyze your footage and from there we will be able to tell it to make it look like a specific movie and it will do it as good as it can be given the quality of the input footage.

@@aaronhinton92 Well, you are right, I've been inundated by hundreds of KZbin creators telling me that I didn't provide an EOTF. We are past the technical days of chroma phase, timing s etc that SD video signals had to comply with, otherwise they wouldn't get transmitted. These days, anything goes as we are just crunching digits and the application of a RGB colour limiter and/or broadcast safe gets most programmes though QC. Colour grading is being de-skilled, get over it. There will always be a place for highly talented graders to work on high-budget productions, building complex grades with nodes, tracking and other tools, but for a lot of editors/producers, slapping a LUT on to give the equivalent of a good or 'creative' one-light telecine works. Making film look in a particular style requires a neunces, and this will lead to the current phenomenon of, ‘that’s ok, yeah that will do’. It’s dumbing down people abilities, quality and human intuition. This is more damaging than helpful. And pulling a colour grade from nowhere is a bit of a claim. “I completely understand, and I appreciate your patience in working through this with me. Achieving a precise match to your reference image seems to be falling short due to the limitations in my ability to visually assess and refine nuanced details in real-time like a human editor.” (It wasn’t even close to precise) This is ChatGPT after putting it through its paces after promising me the world. In this video’s case from what I have learned and what I understand, it’s basically just moving a few sliders (so to speak) based on what it knows about the look of the film. It doesn’t even take into account colour profiles etc. I really wanted it to work and spent 2 days teaching it and feeding it data…in the end it couldn’t even recreate an image even if I gave it the edit meta data and this was for photography let alone film. Yes there are paid services out there that can do it but that’s way beyond ChatGPT, fun to play with though and the future is looking bright for this type of thing.

The results look like sh1t. You're fooling yourselves if you think this prompt is sufficient. LUTs need much more context to be usable in production. What is the scene referred colour space the images are recorded in? The display referred rendering space and EOTF? The reference image you used needs to be contextualized. Is it a Rec709 image? Can't use that to describe colours in P3 D65. You may be able to create LUTs that roughly approximate a look but these LUTs will only work with a very narrow range of source images.
