The most obvious use case for generative AI in games is with NPCs. Realistic dialogue interactions, responses, etc

The future is actually companys hiring people with talent, good planificaton and enough time of development and devs doing the work right... If we still didn't achieve that in the majority of the games, an AI is not gonna save us
@fabiofboful7 сағат бұрын
Exactly! The main issue with the entertainment industry is the rush for results. We have no time to wait, and it's driving people crazy! Our society needs to relearn that waiting for something to be ready, at a slower pace, is part of the reward system. This is how our minds should work in a healthy way. AI will not replace good storytelling, nor the significant amount of time and effort put in without the crazy deadlines we have today.

@@fabiofboful I don't think the deadlines are "crazy" at all, games are already taking a long time to come out. That is precisely why AI assisted development is so attractive, it could enable developers to do more, with less, in less time, and make better games faster. People should stop being scared of technology, you should embrace new technology that makes things easier, more efficient, more cost-effective, etc. The way gamers talk on the internet you'd think they'd prefer if we all went back to coding in assembly and abandoning every tool ever made that makes devving easy, not doing so would be "lazy" according to that logic... from people who have never even opened up an IDE in their lives but think they're experts on game development.

I'm curious if we could see some kind of Tech that specializes in improving the ways a Graphics Card can render out each frame & improving the ways the CPU gets utilized. Currently we are seeing a ton of improvements in our hardware BUT it seems like we are falling behind when it comes to software & our abilities to utilize our hardware to it's fullest potential.. Such as inefficiencies in the realm of rendering prioritization, processing efficiency, finding and fixing code in order to optimize video games, or physics simulation models. Random: I have realized how much I miss having Wacky sports games, Xtreme sports games, Pure over the top insanity type video games! Can we PLEASE bring this back! I miss how unique gaming was thru 90's-00's. Those games were amazing & beautiful even tho Devs didn't have access to ray tracing or 4k resolutions. Did the game industry just forget how important stuff like physics effects, rag doll effects, using creative art styles, creating satisfying movement, finding intriguing gameplay mechanics, responsive damage effects and interactive environments. Having a game with a variety of different gameplay modes. Current games are way too focused on the wrong stuff and they forget they're making a game that is supposed to be fun & appealing. Did the industry just forget what fun & visually appealing is? I hope we will see a massive improvement in the ways video games can be made. I swear the fact that game development is so unintuitive it restricts a lot of the creativity and it limits how many people actually end up working on making video games..

I am concerned about AI art... This will make AI art and Deep Fakes better because they can start from a structure and build it from the ground up instead of trying to render the whole thing outright. When drawing a you start with simple shapes and add detail as you progress whereas AI just adds detail and damn the consequences. The laces on boots are usually wrong on AI images where if a human was going to go through the effort of adding laces to a drawn boot they'd might as well do it right.

I see a big difference between 1. using AI to speed up game development, 2. AI to improve rendering, 3. using gen-AI instead of 3D rendering. I'm hoping we'll see a combination of 1 and 2, more so than 1 and 3.
@carlwheezer15446 сағат бұрын
you know its going to be 3, a lot of game artists will lose their jobs like myself
@h4x0y5 сағат бұрын
@@carlwheezer1544 I hope you don't lose your job over any of this. I believe in the saying that AI won't replace us, only those who won't adopt using it (if it has value in their line of work). Unless the day comes where anyone can prompt their ideal game or software for free, then we're all in trouble. But before that, from a game art perspective, I'm curious to see whether we'll lean towards using gen-AI to create beautiful raster worlds to render as usual, or towards realtime generated worlds/frames. Most people seem to think only of the latter (probably because of the popularity of Midjourney, Sora, etc.), but I don't see why generating 3D worlds isn't even better. Seems like gameplay will be more consistent and have fewer artefacts that way, as you can control the game world prior to releasing just as we do with handcrafted worlds now.

When you are upscaling the frame is held whilst new artificial frames are inserted ahead of it. This affects the machine response times and will lead to games feeling slow and strange to play.

It's already done with DLSS3 and FSR3 frame generation. DLSS3 with Reflex has 50-60ms latency, which is half of some console games. It's a non issue, outside of competitive shooters - maybe.
