I was six when he died. I wouldn't go on to appreciate and adore AIC until I was 24, when my depression reached an extremely low point. This song- really the entire JOF EP- spoke to me. Dirt did too. Of course I listened to Mad Season as well. These lyrics gave me so much comfort. My family found out around this time, my older brother was an addict. Once again, I turned to this band and Layne's voice for comfort. Luckily, my brother is on the road to getting clean and sober. I think he just made it into a year sober, If my memory is right. I'm in better headspace too. But I'll never forget this was one of the two artists that got me through an extremely tough part of my life. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. Stay safe and alive out there, friend. Be kind to yourself.

The band messed up. There is an odd number of phrases for the first verse, five in total. True he was singing the wrong words but the band went into the chorus after the 4th phrase. The second verse has two phrases then back into the chorus, same with the last verse, two phrases, then final chorus to outro. Layne's look was like, "the hell?".
@carolineroggenbuck93813 жыл бұрын
AIC's most underrated song. Imagine "I Stay Away," "Rotten Apple," and "Don't Follow" on Unplugged. Time constraints from MTV executives limited the amount of songs AIC could perform, but fuck that. The musicians know more than the MTV executives. MTV should have allowed AIC to perform these songs to release them on anniversary/bonus feature releases. "Angry Chair" almost was not performed due to time constraints. Thank God AIC fought for that. "Nutshell" thankfully was played and is still my favorite on Uplugged (better than the studio version) followed by "Down In a Hole" and "Would?."

I just LOVE how Layne sings the chorus at 4:17... The Jar of Flies version is more solid, while the live version sounds like a jam. I think this song, especially the one played in this show, is one of the best AIC moments of ALL their career... Even with the little mistake at 1:44 haha. So powerful, so emotional. I just wonder why they didn't played it at the Unplugged.

.not sure way its wasn't done at unplugged but I'm taking a guess that it was too on point. Layne is broken he appeared to have difficulty putting himself up straight on a stool. Rotten is a fall from grace I doubt layne wanted to be reminded of that and neither did jerry. Rotten is such a calling card to the devastation laynes life had become. I cant listen to ritten without crying its too symbolically relevant and layne sung that with such brutal honesty that it really hit home for me. Miss him so much everyday... always💔
