In this NEW video Aikido Atemi #puttingharmbackintoharmony. Lenny sly sensei of the rogue warriors training compound goes over some striking options that can be used to supplement your aikido techniques. Sly sensei demonstrates off a shomenuchi attack what you can do once the evasion is done and a strike could or needs to be applied to either open up an attacker for a throw or takedown, or to just purely stop an attacker. For over 200 online Tenshin aikido training video's visit us at www.roguewarrio... and sign up today.

As with all of your videos, I really appreciate the nice, clean lines you use in redirecting and entering. You guys do a great job of demonstrating the sword concepts, e.g. footwork, timing, body position that is unique to aikido.

Videos like this are why I subscribed...and why KZbin needs to add a LOVE icon!!! The intro video was a bit long, but it was also awesome! I noticed another great option once entry is made. Rather than switching hands on the hair grab, maintaining grip with the right hand (when entering from the side shown) also allows for pull-down into some right knee strikes. It's obviously more Muay Thai than Aikido, but (A) a solid knee to the head certainly promotes the goal of knocking the guy out, and (B) it saves the added manipulation of a hand change. To be clear, I loved everything you showed; I'm just offering an additional option. Finally, I love that you included, "Better judged by twelve than carried by six,", "There are no rules on the street,", and, "Prepare for the worst; hope for the best." I have lost track of how many times I have told people ALL of these SURVIVOR'S MINDSET concepts. It's great to see you teaching them, too. P.S. Great to see you...period. I've been away for awhile. Looking forward to catching up on all the videos I've missed. If they're anything like this, I'm in for a great time.

The rogue warriors I like your stuff and how you make things more realistic to what actually would happen. I wanna take a class when I have time to make the trip up there. There's a problem I need to address with you before I do your training. Your opponents often step forward (switching stance) while they strike with the hand that's on the same side as the moving foot. Nobody does this on the street. Only traditional martial artists in the class do it. No one seems to ever notice this huge flaw. It's easy to execute counters when someone attacks you while switching like this so it gives a false sense of your own capability. No one does this in real life I promise. I'm not trying to talk shit either because I love that you make aikido more applicable. I think I can help you by saying this though.

Josh McCormack Ok. Maybe you should do some research. Many boxers and street fighter step and punch with the same hand and foot. Also what I'm showing in this video is striking against an aikido attack, not how someone would exactly strike you on the street. Furthermore.... When I was a bouncer I can day from experience that I've seen more fights in bars and fights outside of bars as well as been in both of those situations that I just mentioned where people did exactly what you say people don't do. Maybe you wouldn't attack or strike someone that way doesn't mean that a million people would do it the same as you. Thank you for posting.

Unless the laws have changed, (and they can vary from state-to-state), is clear that you will not go to jail as long as you are defending yourself and did not start the fight. If a man hits you and walks away and you chase him down and beat him you can be arrested. But if you defend and it's proved you won't be arrested. Unfortunately the attacker can still sue you civilly. But as Sly sensei said, "I rather be judged by twelve than carried by six."

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 nails it on the head. If anyone is trying to attack you unprovoked in the street then they are looking to cause you serious harm or mug you. In this context this technique is completely proportionate.

People should try to read the description in the videos and actually listen to what content creator has to say. Quite clearly he is trying to adapt Aikido to modern day combat. What is so hard to understand about that? What I would like to see is his partner using different kind of strikes to show how adaptable the techniques are though.

Thank you mr. Lenny sly, np......yes it was misunderstanding! My struggle is I do like the variety and the ability that you can get from arts like karate, kicks ect but I do also like the aikido art and what it's meant to do BUT here's the confusion for me, as I notice, aikido "tenshin" is the only one that teaches hand deflections and my believe that's key to make it effective on the st! MR. Lenny........if you HAD to choose between karate or tenshin aikdo.......wich one would you do and why........answer when you can!YES I'm accually really torn on this, they are both good arts
@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13

Yes TenShin is the only style that actually does hand deflections. I’m also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do which basically is Korean karate. So I would continue to study TenShin Aikido. Why? Because I enjoy how TenShin methodology and how you can incorporate techniques within to any art for the most part.

MrFlolos Honestly I don't experience that. I'm not trying to be egotistical so please don't take it as if I am. I was a bouncer for 23 years so I had my fair share of alterations and just got to a point where I didn't get nervous, tunnel vision or have any fear. So I really can't tell you how to over come that, because everyone is different and deal with that their own way. Ya know.

THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED. In my personal experience you simply don't have time to think - you react and adrenaline instantly kicks in. The only time I remember being frightened is knowing well in advance it was coming. Like the days of being in school and meeting at the 3 o'clock bell. Unfortunately the waiting gives you lots of time to ponder. However on the streets as Sensei Lenny knows better than most anyone - everything happens in a blink of an eye.

I'd LOVE to see Lenny get in the ring with some of these "unstoppable" MMA knuckleheads that keep talking about how useless Aikido is and show them how effective it can be. Of course, they would say "you can't do that, that's against the rules, no groin kicks, no hair grabbing, etc, etc, " but it would be the most popular video on KZbin to watch Lenny give them a good beat-down!
@Markuden
@Markuden 7 жыл бұрын
Well I do both krav maga and mma and I have to say adrenaline (and in my case high pain tolerance) makes hair grabbing and eye gouging not that effective. In a real fight you only have your gross motoric skills so you wont be able to grab the eyes that much for example. But the shit he does at 0:33 .... REALLY?! fighting multiple opponents and instead of lining them up so only one at the time can attack you, he runs trough all of them and because they are actors they crash in eachother. That is the worst thing you can do in a multiple opponent streetfight. If only 1 of them grabs you or your shirt you are stuck between 3 guys punching you. If a guy trips you, you are on the ground with 3 people stomping your face.

Justified defense... I keep hearing it on YT, but I haven't seen much of it. A cop once told me that if I had to defend myself, I should NEVER inform the police! The thing is, that if you go to the police it's like a confession. You're at the PD, whereas the ones that attacked you could be anywhere and the cops probably don't even know their names and they definitely don't have any confessions from them. Still, they need to make a number of arrests to get promoted, so go figure... At a place I know well, a guy started a fight with two innocent people. He was a trained boxer with alcohol in his blood and an entire shelf devoted to his crimes at the PD. He injured both and kept kicking the one on the ground against his head. The other victim didn't see any other way to save his friends life, than taking out his 5cm/2In blade Swiss army knife and stab him in the butt. Surprisingly it stopped the assailant, who got later the minimal sentence for assault, whereas the victim was tried for assault with a deadly weapon and got a longer sentence, since he attacked without warning and from behind... An acquaintance of my mother was once threatened with a gun and she managed to chop the gun out of his hand and crack his jaw with a second strike. Again, she got the more severe sentence, because she was a blackbelt (thus considered equal to being armed) and the other didn't harm her (yet). His gun was fake and it could not be proven that he actually tried to rape her... Both stories are from Germany, but I'm sure that they apply to quite a number of other countries as well.

It's not so much a problem of being liberal. It's a complex mixture of problems. Most of them can apply to non-liberal countries too: a) states saving money by reducing money on police and justice in good times, but failing to resupply it in time. b) minimal sentence for criminals in order to avoid revision and thus lessen the burden of courts c) punish those that take justice into their own hands, hoping to avoid further escalation (vendettas, people punishing the wrong ones etc.) and keeping down the work load for cops. Also, good guys tend to be too honest to cops and courts. d) Specific to Germany: they fear nothing more than resurgence of right-wing extremists. They thus make some problems taboo (allowing them to grow), crack down hard on vigilantes, militias and even fearing the prepper movement (cops being part of it, will be fired, because who believes in the decline of the state is ill-fit to represent it)...

I do remember that cops in the USA are also lacking everything, which results in some manipulating evidence to cut corners and get promotions. Thus, being wary of cops is always a good idea. Also, I do remember that burglars were suing home owners and getting away with it for ludicrous reasons.

And Lenny I would add that I heard you podcast with some dude that was interviewing about where Seagal got this and I agree that he had to have studied some form of Kenjutsu because of the precise angles, timing, and especially entering(Irimi) and deflecting. I remember from years ago(back in early 2000s, that either Reynosa or another student of Seagal's said it was Yagyu-shinkage Kenjutsu but it also could have been Kashima-shinto Kenjutsu too. Stanley Pranin did tons of research with Aikido Journal and O-Sensei studies Kashima-shinto ryu as the Aikiken has identical Kata to it.
