Indeed, Henko waza is essential, I love to entertain the Ya but, or what if issues as they arise, because they do! I also do a shock and awe with my students when they think they got me hahahaha but as far as your minor or major rants go, totally necessary!!!! Too many igmos out there who have no clue are critiquing, Preach it all day if need be!! I have spent a couple classes a portion on getting the Do Not Anticipate the Ukemi, but to work on those Kata maneuvers, so the real stuff can happen!!! Excellent teaching Sensei on the mechanics of how the joints must be stabilized before the wrist can be applied, without that, it is worthless! Awesome as always
@vikkvixx89487 жыл бұрын
Awesome. i admit that i used to have the same actitud when the technic i was trying to apply failed. But one day our sensei told us to make a free practicing without stopping to "start again". Then i undestod other meaning of flowingness in Aikido. sorry for my english, greetings from Argentina.

lenny and Co, one of your best videos yet. teaching a bit of 'mental agility' is an area that really isn't taught in most dojos. you are a top notch ambassador for aikido. I always teach the three Rs for my student reaction, repertoire and repetition to install a sense of learning the movement so it becomes instinctive. feeling what techniques become available and then spending the time to make it muscle memory. keep up the great videos and insights into your aikido and many thanks to all at your dojo who are involved. your channel is head and shoulders the best source of aikido knowledge out there. martyn kai shin kai aikido, bicester UK

OMG, such great info! Thank you for being real about things not working...but moving on...streets change by circumstance and the possibilities are endless!
@humanbean1237 жыл бұрын
Another great, practice video. As you point out, it seems so rare that in a street situation one linea technique will be easy to apply. Most times, the opponent is flailing around, and just trying to attack you by whatever means they can, so being able to incorporate/pivot-to other tools (like the leg sweep, etc.) is essential. Also really appreciated the pause and break-down of small-joint-manipulation technique. Thanks again, as always, great video!!
@justinwallace269 Жыл бұрын
Excellent! This video addresses the #1 issue that people have with Aikido and why so many critics are like "Look see, that shit doesn't work!" People learn it in a perfectly compliant dance kata, and have no idea how to handle a situation where something goes wrong. It's because most people don't understand the mechanics of the moves and the human body. They just expect the shit to work because the demos made it look easy. I love that you take the intelligent approach to explaining mechanics and how to transition technique if the attacker manages to resist. Aikido with the right mindset is gonna blow people away with how random and unpredictable it can be. 👍💪

Not one for leaving comments, but I've been searching for aikido videos since I've been away from my dojo because of joining the military and I just love your videos and your take on the Art. Before joining the military I was studying aikido for 12 years and my instructor always mentioned that if something fails or does not work DO NOT STOP! always finish up with something which is what you said and it is rare that I hear other people say or mention that at all. Just wanted to take a little moment and tell you I love what you do and how you teach. just wish I was stationed up there to train with you. take care

People don't throw a power punch while stepping in with the same foot.
@edwardclare23697 жыл бұрын
michaeljk not true, I'm not an Aikido man but I am a member of a private security team and I have had people run in with lunging punches a few times, once the guy was even holding a screwdriver, so yes some people do attack like that, people do all kinds of stuff during combat situations, it's more how you respond to their motion than how you respond to the actual attacks. For the record I have trained for the last 31 years and am a 6th Dan in Kenpo and a 5th Dan in jujutsu.

Great video, excellent approach to training. From experience of other MAs such as BJJ I see those have a three stage approach - light drill to learn technique, then against slight resistence then actual sparring. In Aikido I see the two stages but not the third. I always try to work resistence in my training and ask Uke to be difficult so I'm always trying to pressure test.If the technique does not work then try something else to get the throw. Shio nage is a classic for this with it being a difficult technique to always get right. New students naturally turn into it so you have to get the technique right. That's why it's important to train resistence otherwise what's the point in training - you're just scamming yourself.

premier69 are you trying to get them to practice with you ? You can lead a horse to water but not make them drink in fact tho if the horse doesnt want to go with you to that water you cant make them they need to be interested first. or maybe you should start slower peak their interest first observe who they are how they think what draws the persons attention and let Them decide where to let their interest lead them once they start making the initiative making the effort in time you can sway them or show them the benefit of going thru the things that seem slow to them and if they give it true attention they will learn and be greatful
