My dad is a aikido teacher, he told me there are 5 Kyos, just now I discovered there are 6 He told me that he didn't think rokkyo was a technic like ikkyo or yonkyo

Rokkyo is not part of the formal aikikai curriculum. But call it whatever you want as long as it works.

Asked a lot of times about Aikido locks in Aikido community. What do you mean by saying 'lock'? Is it joint pressure or something extra? Sometimes ikkyo to gokyo called 'lessons'. If so what they taught?

A lot of the confusion could be how things are said in English or other languages that aren't Japanese. Ikkyo 一教 literally translates as first lesson. There is also a pin associated with it, ikkyo no katame. Katame is the lock or the pin done at the end. Ikkyo to rokkyo ("lesson" 1 to 6) each have a specific pin or set of pins. These same pins can be applied in other situations too. For example, using the nikkyo pin to finish the kotegaeshi technique. :)

@@lostinlymbo13 so Aikido 'lessons' are about pins?
@lostinlymbo132 жыл бұрын
@@vano-559 each "lesson" includes both a take down and a pin. Two parts. For example: Ai hanmi karate tekubi Tori ikkyo omote. That means Right hand grabbing right wrist and do the technique ikkyo in front of your partner. (not a direct translation). You would do ikkyo and finish with the ikkyo pin. They're a pair. :)

@@lostinlymbo13 my bad I forgot takedowns. I asked this question as many times as I could however result is the same and most people think that Aikido 'lessons' are about takedowns and pins one by each lesson. Originally lesson was about type of kuzushi and illustrated by dozen techniques. Now I looked for someone who might know origins.

They are called immobilizations. In my language "control holds"
