The Rammstein boys are never afraid to write potentially controversial songs, but they often do it in a subtle way that's not always obvious. I'd love to go to one of their shows, the pyrotechnics are insane.

Yes, the pyrotechnics are insane but also dangerous. In an interview they admitted that almost every band member now has burn scars from the pyrotechnics. By the way, Till Lindemann is a pyrotechnician himself and is involved in the planning of the show.

Its all about "Americanization" and influence, forced or otherwise on the world. The lyrics and video are perfect combination. Love the dance metaphor, the whole "don't worry if you don't know what to do WE will show you how it's supposed to be done" , that's great. You got the African tribe eating American style pizza, the monks eating burgers, the holy man with the designer sneakers , the Asian guy dressed like some James Dean style greaser on a motorbike,Santa Claus in Africa and several other things. That strong American influence being common place in the world

plus the allusion to the wild west romance of the 60s and 70s in Europe, when there were plenty of B-grade German westerns, as they should have been, with blond, blue-eyed cowboys and German-speaking Indians. The Karl May subculture, the line that in Italy took the form of the spaghetti western.

Liked before I watched it, happy to have back your Rammstein reactions ;) Notice: It's not just a song against America, it's culture-critical. They do the same with their own country ("Deutschland") or Russia, for instance ("Moskau"), even East-Europe ("Donaukinder"). If you take a closer look you see everyone smiling, just adapting to American pop culture. In the end even a choir of children's sings "we're living in America". So it addresses both sides. So yeah, it's critical but also cynical :) The fake moon-landing is just joking around, they are not conspiracy theorists at all ;) Happy new home, too, Aileen!
@xDporrada
@xDporrada Жыл бұрын
You talk like manipulation and forcing someone to live your culture isn't a thing. Everyone smiling means they got brainwashed by america, like... it's not "both sides" fault. The fake moon-landing at the end means that the idea of america is fake, as it's pure propaganda and they use it to conquer other countries.
@estoy1001
@estoy1001 Жыл бұрын
I think Rammstein was using the concept of a "fake" moon landing to underline the fact that it was a bit of political theater; the Space Race was all about the first country to do something big, to say "we're the best", not necessarily for altruistic, exploratory, scientific reasons. We literally went there & planted a flag, Americanizing even the moon. (See Eddie Izzard's fabulous stand-up bit about flags.) The only reason that the reason matters is that we have no further political motivation (currently) to continue exploring space in a larger way.

I was born 1959 in Salzburg, Austria, living a stone's throw away from the german border. My teenage years were the 60's and 70's. Back then, everything that came out of America was good, great, and worth striving for. Probably the effect of the post-war period and major economic aid from the US. As a student I was in the States for a few weeks in 1981. That was eye-opening for me. I had to realize that the US isn't just Disneyland. I realized that the US does a lot of things just for economic reasons. Everything is subordinated to economic success and the resulting power. The Rammstein video addresses this very well. They do a good job as always. I think your reaction is great, especially the comparison with the difference between living in the States and living in Mexico. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fan of America. But the constantly growing fundamentalism makes me increasingly sad. Please keep it up, I always check your posts and will continue to do so.

Small detail about the music video, they showed a "making of" of how they did the low gravity effect. They actually recorded the moon scenes with the music playing double speed and slowed the video footage back down to match the song at normal speed. So then we get the band singing and playing with the song, but they jump around at 1/6th gravity. You can also see Till's hair move slow as well. They upload their "making of" videos on their official KZbin channel. The band members are also very clear about what the song is saying and how they feel during the short interviews.

For this video, the group had to mime playing their instruments faster than usual and had the cameras recording at a slightly different speed, so the appearance of being weightless was shown. Rammstein also have a number of videos showing the "Behind the scenes" and production processes of various of their videos, each one might also be worthwhile doing as a react video. Also, at the end of this video, a fake moon rock is seen being carried, possibly poking fun at one of the moon landings conspiracies that involves a photo of a lunar rock that shows a "C" on it. When this song's done in their concerts, Flake is often seen playing a keyboard whilst riding around on a Segway. And once, he accidentally drove into Till, causing Till to limp for quite a while afterwards. As always though, good reaction. And pauses once in a while are always necessary, if just to deal with the KZbin issues.

It is important to note that this song was written around the time of the second Iraq war around 2003. This war in particular led to huge demonstrations in Germany and France against the war and in particular a potential participation. As a result Germany and France never went to Iraq with their armies leading to the well known hatred and consequences by the US. Also the post 9/11 laws, like the Patriot act, were seen critically here. All of these points are used to this day by tankies left and right to legitimize Russia btw. So that is the historical context for the song.

Here, Rammstein impressively shows that America is trying to bring its “way of life” everywhere in the world. A little American superiority is not only to be supported, but also the adoption of American habits is to be expected. Rammstein says the following line of text: When there is dancing, I want to lead, Even if you are spinning alone. Let us control you a little. I'll show you how to do it properly.

The most important thing about some (not all in my opinion) songs of Rammstein is, that you reflect on yourself. Without knowing the lyrics and/or the video "Amerika" could be a song of the superbowl halftime-break and most people will join in, singing. (awsome music and a forgeinger singing "we all living in amerika"). Same on the song "Deutschland" for germans on the otherhand. I hope, I could express in english what I mean. I am looking forward for more "Rammstein" (Angst, Ausländer,...) with friendly regards Chris

You should do "Deutschland" by Rammstein next. Probably the best music video out there by a long shot, and they spared no expense as you'll easily see.

People did land on the Moon, but to take that away (from that perspective) and spin it around like that! Props for a genius video from start to finish! Even the conspiracy-theorists will be like: What?!

It was this country that started a lot of wars, including the war between Russia and Ukraine. Well done, Raimstein. They raised this topic a long time ago. The crown of the “great country” has been shaken

The guy carrying that supposedly car-weight rock around like a handbag ... :) The moonlanding reminds me of the german town of 'Bielefeld'. Which doesn't actually exist ...
