I bought my house 2 years ago and the ac wouldn't cool the house enough. I thought it was because of the high temperatures here in CA. After some digging I found 2 problems. First, the capacitor was the wrong size (50+7.5, when it needs a 50+10). The second issue was the wiring. The fan was blowing in reverse. After seeing your video and looking at the diagram, I was able to fix my issue.

Thank you for this. Thank you even more for explaining where the wires of different colors should be coming from. My unit's purple wire comes from the fan, not the compressor, so likely, someone made an error, or standards changed over the years. I was quoted over $500 for a new fan and capacitor, so I shall be trying this out.

Thank you for your video, my landlord fixed the ac before summer and just 2 days ago the fan outside was spinning backwards and the compressor was making humming sounds when engaged. Found that my capacitor was bad and the landlord installed the last compasitor with the wiring wrong. He had the compressor wire on the fan and the fan on the herm.

I made a mistake when I ordered the fan motor, the rotation is wrong and it's not reversible. Can I run the unit with reverse rotation for a couple days while I find an opposite fan blade or new motor?

Mine ran for a couple months that way before I noticed it and it was ok.
