Nice install Steve, one nice advantage of using the stay brite 8 is you really don't need to run a nitrogen purge as you don't need to get the copper up to brazing temperatures to use the solder...

Nice soldering job! The reusable heat dough is great for isolating the heat when you are soldering or brazing! Funny how years ago Goodman gwas the worst unit and c Trane was the best and today the reverse is true! Thanks for another awesome video Steve!

This video makes it look easy. I'm thinking many viewers don't understand the entire process of sizing and going to supply house and waiting and loading and often back for more stuff. There are glitches on all installs and more time spent. Add more refrigerant etc. The best part of the job is when finished and look it over and everything looks good and the numbers make sense. Then you are thinking all is well with the world. You get home and the guy calls and sez...hey it isn't working. You better have a good sense of humor in this line of work....

Guess Goodman is pretty popular these days! My apartment complex uses them when replacing the older units. They replaced the air conditioner afew years ago, and the furnace about 2 years ago. 🤔 Both seem to work great.!👍 Yes, they're both Goodman. (The apartment originally had Williams.?)

hey Lav, Do you do a triple or double evac with nitro in between vacuums? -I'm curious why you don't used a txv vs piston on a new 13 seer unit? I know pistons are less problematic. Do you use say Brite so you don't technically need a nitro purge during soldering vs brazing? I know the micro channel are very easy to overcharge. I notice the service valve caps leak during vacuums sometimes. I'm usually leave the caps on with nylon during install to prevent going crazy trying to find a small leak during evacs. oh mama!

15:30 - I was wondering why you were fluxing up those joints. I always keep that Stay Brite stuff on my torch kit but, I rarely use it. Usually only around/on expensive components or the occasional brass to copper connection like a txv to a brass cap tube manifold. I guess you use it on the everyday stuff too? To each his own. No denying that the lower melting temperature is a good thing :)

Just FYI. The American Welding Society (AWS) defines soldering in terms of heat from the eutectic point to 800 F. Brazing is from 800 up to the melting point of the base metal. One is a process of adhesion, the other cohesion.

Going to try this one more time - (copy and pasted from my attempt at retrieving answer on FaceBook) I asked the original following message: **"Greetings, discovered your stuff on KZbin and have been watching it to refresh my knowledge since I haven't been doing HVAC work in years (HVAC universal ticket). Very nice work! I do however have a question; If you "swear by" stay-brite 8 then, why is it that I see you brazing 90%+ of your HVAC work instead of using stay-brite?" **YOU REPLIED: ..."I use both". **But, although that is an answer, that doesn't narrow down as to WHY or when?....That is like answering to a question - "would you like tea or coffee" and you answering "Yes"....What determines when you use SB-8 and why?....Thanks.

I'm not sure of cost, but would guess around 1k. 134A is for vehicles only. Our houses use R22, which is old stuff and the new style is 410A. Always make sure you use what is recommended on the equipment itself or the owners manual.

Should always replace line set especially going from R-22 to 410-A you sure do some pretty shotty work also where is filter dryer especially after using old line set then you use stay Brite solder whats wrong with 45% it upholds higher pressure then you solder your line set with Schrader core steal in not good practice you should remove the Schrader core before soldering. Your lucky you don't work for me or around where I'm at.

Hey Steve been watching your videos for a while and noticed that some other people on KZbin that do HVAC work have been doing 407C retrofits on older R22 systems what do you think on 407C retrofits ?( on customers that don't want to spend the money)
@stevenlavimoniere
@stevenlavimoniere 8 жыл бұрын
407c is fine if you add oil with it to older systems . you have to be carefull the compressor has the right oil or you will kill it real fast better to use mo99 and you don;t have to add oil
@corvairGuy1754
@corvairGuy1754 8 жыл бұрын
+steven lavimoniere Thanks . I figured oil would have to be changed /added cause it's a different refrigerant I'm not an HVAC tek I was just curious on your thoughts because I think my condenser compressor is on its way out cause it makes a odd noise when it shuts off. The condenser is a trane installed in 2002 air handler is a late 80's early 90's rudd furnace. I think ill just replace both when it finally dies cause it's mismatched equipment and previous home owner smoked very heavily in the house i live in now and it was ran with out a air filter! (i don't smoke and plan to never start.) lived in the house little over a year now.

I was under the impression that with R410a you have to use braze due to the increased pressures...
@vincentherman468
@vincentherman468 8 жыл бұрын
The Staybright 8 has a higher silver content thus making it stronger with a higher melting point that supposedly handles the pressures of 410A. Makes a clean joint on the inside but there are still some people that will only use silfloss. If you use silfloss you better have nitrogen running because when you get that copper red hot, oxidation on the inside happens within a few seconds and your pipe will be full of crud.
