This air dry clay video is just a bit of fun and I wanted to experiment with dishwasher safe mod podge, and so I put my air dry clay trinket dish in the DISHWASHER...crazy I know...but take a look and see what happens.
I don't recommend you actually do this but the results are fun, enjoy your air dry clay projects.

Thank you for testing the Mod Podge dishwasher safe. Funny note, I live in Hawaii. SOOO humid here. When I use Mod Podge it takes a few months to dry completely. You can safely assume I use Minwax or something similar instead to seal my pieces.

I left my mod podge matte to cure my air dry clay over 5 weeks. It was pretty and shiny. Then, I painted it with acrylic paint, and the mod podge seemed to piece or string apart in the paint. I cleaned it with a baby wipe and peeled the thick mod podge back off and started over with just acrylic paint. Now I need a good sealer varnish.

Sounds like it all went on too thick, a couple of thinner coats if anything are always better than a thick coat

Nice experiment! Brave of you to put it in the dishwasher with the rest of the dishes! I would have probably played it safe and try a much smaller piece, all alone in the dishwasher. 😁😁😁

Hello, Interesting experiment! I think why it bubbled is because water infiltrated the clay some how. If there is a weak spot that is not fully covered water will find a way in.

It works with just varnish? Where I live it's hard to find Mod Podge or it's very expensive

I tested mod podge and other top coats in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2rVdHqcm7GYoJY to see if they could be waterproof. The dishwasher mod podge in this video stood the test very well though, but the dishwasher was just a bit of fun

I've just finished a couple of cabbage leaf plates with dishwasher mod podge, I don't intend to ever put them in the dishwasher. Handwashing will be ample for my plans. Now I'm not going to put jam in them or something you'd use a utensil with, like a cheese board situation but with non toxic, waterproof mod podge and a few biscuits or something similar I don't see why you couldn't use them. I've about 6 coats on mine and am going to do my best to be patient for the curing time! Suppose it's all "at your own risk" mod podge and das etc don't want to take responsibility or go to the effort/expense of lab testing, which is fair enough. Afterall you wouldn't describe wood varnish as non toxic...but you'll still eat a biscuit that's sat on the kitchen table 🤣🤣 anyway, that's my tuppence's worth 😂😂😂

air dry clay is not food safe. To make plates you would want stoneware clay that you would then need to take to a studio to get fired ❤️

I haven’t before and would love to but you wouldn’t want to get it permanently wet, I have a waterproof video where I use polyurethane varnish, experiment and see

@@RedRockingBird Hello, If you are going to make a soap dish, I would coat it with Resin. Resin is the only thing that will truly waterproof air dry clay-Tressa @ajoyfulclaytutor

@@RedRockingBird Hello, You are right liquid resin is not easy to work with, but the only way to truly waterproof air dry clay is to coat it in resin. That way it can go outside too! Another is to use a a resin based Epoxy clay like Magic Sculpt. Magic Sculpt is a two part resin clay that is easy to work with, is waterproof, will cure underwater, is easy to smooth out and paint. You should give it a go too! Thank you for your videos!
