Really cute and fun design. I don't do resin but I've heard there is a spray varnish that is for cars that works well for coasters. I got some bendable air dry clay yesterday and I've already made 4 flowers out of it. It feels so weird after working with Das. I got Sargeant Art because I couldn't find Smarta anywhere in the USA. I'm going to try to make your orchid today with this new air dry clay. Yep, you got me hooked😉 on this stuff. 😊🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

Hi Sarah! I love your videos and you got me started on clay projects so thank you so much for that. Now I'm curious about UV resin for the finish polished look, but I don't know if I need a security mask to use UV resin and can't find answers online. Some say yes as with epoxy, others say it's not needed for UV resin. And I don't want to risk my health. Can you please shed some light on this matter? Thank you!

If I were to use air dry clay to make jewelry pendants, would I need to use resin to coat them? Or would varnish be best?

I’ve only started using resin more recently but I’m find it great as a sturdy to coat for air dry clay, the first time I did it on beads I got in a bit of a drippy mess but getting the hang of it now. I haven't watched this video yet. I have a question though, about clay. My clay got a bit hard and dry as I had it stored for some months. Is there a way to soften it up again? My hands aren't very strong since injuring the tendons in my wrists. Thanks for any help/advice you can give. I didn't see anything about it in your tips video of a year ago. Thanks in advance!
@RedRockingBird Жыл бұрын
Sure can fix it. What I recommend is putting a couple of teaspoons on water in with it in a sealed plastic bag, nice and tight and leave it, the clay should then soak this moisture in. I made a video on how to recycle dried used clay, this can be used again, so hard clay in the packet can also be brought back to life. Best of luck with it, thanks for watching, Sarah 😊

Hi Sarah. Could it be possible to make small bonsai pots, cure it with resin and keep them outside? Or are there maybe other, better solutions? Or is impossible to keep airdry clay outdoor? Thanks for the inspiring videos.
@RedRockingBird10 ай бұрын
Hi Paolo, thank you for your message, I have videos where I have made the air dry clay waterproof, but they do need inspecting yearly and decorating if need be. These weren’t with resin but polyurethane varnish. I want to do some with resin and test them outdoors as it sounds like it should be a winner as long as completely sealed. Making a mould from the pot and then pouring the resin would also work, but maybe not the effect you are after. Sorry for the delay in my response, this one seemed to get lost in the mix, many thanks and best of luck
@lawsdraws2 жыл бұрын
Oh Ive not yet tried resin! (bit scared of it to be honest). I made a watercolour palette and a brush holder from DAS and then varnished them with some clear yacht varnish from Wilko, and completely ruins them :( The varnish had a green slimey cast to it, which was more evident in the areas where it pooled up a bit, and had a weird rubbery texture. Very waterproof I think, but not the look I was going for! Would UV resin be the best thing to varnish with if I was to make another set, do you think? Or would spray varnish work too?
@RedRockingBird2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm sounds like it needs to go on thinner, resin would need to be applied thinly too and build up the layers, I use spray varnish too, but not for coasters, best of luck with your projects 😊

As the resin sinks into the clay it makes it a bit darker, how much depends on the type of resin, if you want to keep it white you can paint with white acrylic paint first.
