The Air Force Cross is the second-highest honor to bestow on an individual next to the Medal of Honor. CMSgt Rob Gutierrez earned this distinction during combat operations in Herat, Afghanistan, in 2009. More than a decade later, he sits down with the Ones Ready Team, here in the team room.
Gut (pronounced "Goot") was so awesome and had such an amazing story, we had to make a 2 part series.
In this episode, CMSgt Gutierrez talks us through the missions he was involved in, and what transpired that day. For the OR team, it was truly an honor.

I saw Rob Gutierrez interview about his A10 danger close mission as a JTAC back when he was a sergeant. He was inspiring then and now that I've heard this interview, he's even more inspiring, giving up his job on the day of 9/11 to serve.

My son is in the PJ pipeline. He was part of the assessment and selection's Alpha class.. Alpha is known as the most brutal selection class with the highest attrition rate because of the severe weather elements.. Out of 200 that started, only 11 completed the class.. Grateful to say my son was one of those 11.. You gain a higher level of respect for these young men after you see what they go through to live up to their motto: "These things we do…That others may live. Hooyah Sargeant.. I feel fine! 👌🏻

@@johnshelley7173 Congratulations! Your son is among an elite class of men.. Always remind him why he’s there.. for the maroon beret and all that it stands for.. The beret gives him the privilege of being in a place where 9 out of 10 who attempted are not.. When times get tough for your son, remind him to embrace the suck and remind of him of why he is there which comes from Isaiah 6:8. .. Lastly.. a father’s prayer for his son are a powerful thing in the eyes of the Lord.

I was an aircraft weapons loader and deployed a few times for OEF and Freedom sentinel. At the time it was hard to understand how important my job was because I'm not a fast mover snd I'm not in the fight. In retrospect I'm proud I could do my part in helping guys like chief execute their missions and I'm proud to be an American. Truly.

Just an old Cold War Air Force 46350 tipping my cap to you young men. Even as a 17/18 year old in Basic watching the Pararescue film, I knew I couldn't do that.

Yes part 2 needed. No sleep in the beginning and then in the end to walk to another pick up site. There needs to be a book to talk about the medal of honor recipient earlier.

Hey, when you say train are you talking about weight room training or bodyweight training and running...
@SleepyMercs
@SleepyMercs 2 жыл бұрын
Training should include swimming, running, CrossFit style workouts and strength training. Swimming workouts should focus on UW, mask recovery, slow long distance swims, and drills on your technique for all those exercises. Running focus on mid foot striking, proper run form, and just get some speed drills and long distance runs in. CrossFit workouts are good to help you push yourself and help the body get used to being uncomfortable. Finally strength training is crucial too because as a Special operator you need to be able to pick up and move. If someone’s hit you gotta be able to deadlift or squat your buddy and expect them to be 250-300 lbs due to body weight and full kit and ruck.

If you go recon are you going to be required to conduct HAHO jumps? So little information on this topic and no matter how many times i ask you all don't cover it. Do an episode on what will be asked and required of you once you are operator. Include subjects like HOHA, HALO, and the most dangerous missions and training excercises. Thanks.

Yes SR have military free fall in their pipeline, which includes HOHA and HALO
@warthunder420
@warthunder420 2 жыл бұрын
@@martyg5156 Just because you are doing military free fall doesnt mean you are specifically doing HAHO. Freefall and HAHO are like two different worlds when it comes to how dangerous it is. Check out black rifle coffee companys coverage of military free fall school, there is different levels of "proficiency".
@OnesReady
@OnesReady 2 жыл бұрын
It’s ‘proficiency’ but yes. And to answer the question directly- again- yes, HAHO is one of our advanced employment capabilities and depending on mission set, you’ll get some, a lot, or no experience with it. It really depends. And as far as doing a whole episode on just HAHO, those tactics techniques and procedures aren’t open source, so we won’t be.
@warthunder420
@warthunder420 2 жыл бұрын
@@OnesReady What exactly does it depend on? Does the individual have any say? I think military freefall genuinely looks like allot of fun! With that said I've read some very in depth articles online that outline how HAHO's are conducted. HAHO's seem almost like a completely different beast with its own unique set of risks and challenges, compared to standard military free fall operations/training. With that said I underatand it has it's advantages. Also I'm sure you all have answered this question before but if/while I have your attention I will ask anyway, does SR get the opportunity to go JTAC? I'm considering enlisting as an Army fister, or possibly going to the special warfare TACP/CCT/SR pipeline. Weighing all the options. I'm probably just being a pussy. Lol.. I have an interest in cyber security and I'm prior law enforcement with an outstanding performance record. Looking for my next challenge. I very much appreciate all that you guys do. Anyone operating within SOCOM in my eyes are real life super heroes. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
