Gentlemen, I personally appreciate your video. I am in the Air National Guard with over 21 years of service. I began as an E-1 and am now an O-4. Kudos to you both for giving us your perspectives and thoughts. I respectfully throw in the Air National Guard (reserve component of the Air Force) into your mix as well. I technically have 4 AFSCs (rates for you Navy folk) and have deployed countless times, not including natural disaster activations and TDYs. I love it and would do it all over again if I could. My little brother just graduated boot camp for Active Duty Air Force and we couldn't be more proud of him. When I was enlisted, I worked closely with the Army being that we both are National Guard members. After almost 13 years enlisted and as an E-5, I finally crossed over to the dark side and became a butter bar. As an officer, I have shared the humble opportunity to lead not only Airmen, but Soldiers, Sailors and Marines as well, being the epitome of the 'Total Force' concept. 2 things I'd like to leave you with; something I tell EVERYONE that I have tutored, mentored, or taught in some way shape or form: 1. NEVER forget where you came from. I'm from the Magnolia Projects in uptown New Orleans and everywhere I go, my home is in and with me. It has helped me to better understand the Iraqis in Nasiriyah and the Bedouins in UAE. 2. (Not meaning any religious offense to anyone) Matthew 7:12- Do unto OTHERS as you would have them do unto YOU. I still put these two boots on everyday not only just in my military duties but my civilian job as well... I salute you gentlemen, thank you for your service and please thank your families for allowing you to serve and supporting both of your respective decisions. :-) Very humbly and respectfully yours

Been out two years now and man do I miss the comradery. That's definitely something you lose when you get out/work in the civilian sector. I kick myself for getting out and I was one of those guys who counted months until I was done (at least, until I extended for a year.) Just a bunch of different things that moved my life this direction I suppose. Glad I left a good impression that I still hear about from my old unit, though! It just isn't the same. And in regards to people who bust different branches balls and mean it: Usually means they're ignorant and have never served or are new troops who haven't yet actually been involved in anything. We work side by side and respect each other for their differences/capabilities. The military is definitely a family.

Best assignments I had in the Air Force, Nellis Air Force base in Vegas. And when I was stationed in Royal Air Force Fairford in England.
@xray1148 жыл бұрын
I have one comparison that I found interesting. I was in a Navy Squadron that was temp. deployed of 3 aircraft to Nellis AFB for 2 weeks. We only had 15 people to take care of all the maintenance, fueling and launching of those aircraft. That includes officers and enlisted. We had people that could do jobs other than their regular job. For example. I did weapon systems electronics and I could also fuel and taxi the plane. So I think the Air force is more specialized than the Navy therefore needing more people to do the same operations that we do.

Outstanding video! I have been receiving a lot of questions based on this video (I am a Air Force Reserve recruiter). I am hoping this will clear some up. Reserve only has 6 year enlistment unless you served before. We welcome all branches! You get to choose your job before enlistment and you are locked into that job. You get the same basic and tech school. The money for school is a little different. With the reserve, you can start using the GI Bill as soon as you finish Tech School. Reserve you just do your ASVAB and physical at MEPS, that's it! You get paid for your delayed entry time. You select your job, enlist, and ship away from MEPS. Hope this helps!

I remember when was I was a 3rd Class Petty Officer [E4]. I was stationed at the Charleston Navy base. In my off duty time, I was taking a course at Trident Tech school and one of the civilian students in the class asked if I could take him on the Air Force base, so he could give his brother a birthday present. I agreed and took him to the barracks that his brother was staying at. I said I would wait in the car, but he said no come with me I want you to meet my brother. So I went with him. I started looking around, everything was so nice and new and much better than my three man room on the Navy base. After a couple of minutes I starting feeling uneasy, like something was wrong. Then it hit me, I WAS IN THE OFFICERS BOQ. I said, "Bill, I got to leave. I am enlisted I can't be in the Officer's barracks." Bill said, "This isn't the officers barrack's, my brother is an E2."

If you could go back in time would you enlist in the AF rather than in the navy?
@almoemason Жыл бұрын
@@Me-eb3wv No the AF does not have submarines and that is specifically why I joined. BTW I stayed 20 years.
@Me-eb3wv Жыл бұрын
@@almoemason that’s amazing man. I’ve been thinking of joining the navy partly because of the submarines. Did you do all 20 years in the submarine force?
@almoemason Жыл бұрын
@@Me-eb3wv Yes I was a Submarine Sonar Technician. I did my time on 4 different boomers (ICBM missile boats)

JtSuits , I just wanted to point out that you can actually move off base depending on your command. I have a friend who is an E-4 and he does not live on base. Not saying you're wrong but it does happen I guess! :-)

JtSuits is in Aviation Squadron, that's a pretty different life then the typical Navy person assigned aboard a ship. Onboard a ship a typical deployment and inspection cycle lasts 24 months. 6-8 Months deployment, 2-4 months or more of a maintenance period and then inspection after inspection where their are lots of Monday-Friday underway periods for training to get ready for deployment.

for contract length there may be benefits depending on the AFSC (career) as well. As a 1N3 (intel linguist) we were given a 6000 bonus for 4 years and a 10000 dollar bonus to sign up for 6 years. They also at the time had a program where you would get E-3 after I think 6 months if you did a 6 year contract, where the E-3 date would be retroactively placed to when you joined the military, meaning you got E-4 faster as well

This was a really fun video! I am 17 right now and 18 in January. I have been interested in the military since i knew it was a thing (since about 3rd grade ish) because my brother was in the Army. He recently retired and also has a purple heart award. I am taking the ASVAB in less than a month and hopefully signing papers in January. But i have no idea what kind of career i want in the Air Force, im interested in everything.

There used to be a thing called "B" school. Am example, ET's FC's etc, tech jobs start with BE&E basic electricity and electronics. It's a pre requisite for the rest of A school. Otbised to be called BSchool, notnots just a part of A school.
