Haha. Finished off the day with this. Passed my hgv class 2 driving test today so am fully qualified now. You couldn't have timed it better pal. Thanks. As for the steaks themselves. A bit on the thin side, but I thought you'd enjoy the salty taste. I didn't think they were bad value for £3.30. I put them in a pitta bread as a kebab alternative, with chilli sauce.

I just got an air fryer and thought I'd give steak a go in it, I was impressed as it was far better than any I've done in the pan. I admit I'm not the best cook so the air fryer just keeps it simple for me.

@@DomingoDeSantaClara I’m mystified as to how you could have found it better but each to their own. Pan is tried and tested, and works every time. Air fryer stops you being able to easily monitor and gets nowhere near as hot. I love my air fryer but there’s no way I’d put a steak in it 🤣

@@PotatoPirate123 I have to say I was mystified as well, I wasn't really expecting a great result, I was really just experimenting. I'm still practising though, as my last one was a bit well done for my taste, but as the steaks I buy are fairly standard in weight I know I'll get it perfect. Let your hair down and give it a go!

Depending on the thickness of the steak, I use the reverse sear method. 5 mins in the air fryer at 210 C, then flash in a very, very hot pan for 30 seconds on each side. Works a treat

Back to basics for any steaks, cast ion griddle pan. uses less energy, and due to the high heat will cook meat in minuets but also keeps it tender and juicy.

Hi M8 , when it comes to cooking any meat/fish...my fav method is Sous Vide which is when you vacuum seal them in a bag and the cook in a water bath it come out so tender and you just sear them in a pan to finish them. look into it... I thought it wouldn't work at first but now I'm a convert look into it m8 😊😊

Just read up where ranch steaks are from; Theyre off the forequarter of beef, (shoulder) so they wont be as tender, when dry cooking, no more than medium, or they toughen up, mainly used as braised steak. When i worked in one place, we used lots of different cuts of beef, but put each steak through a motorised meat tenderiser, saved a lot of time bashing them😁

when i use the cast iron skillet it doesnt taste of the previous herbed and spiced steak if you clean it properly, after i do a steak i add some gravy and reduce it down that usally takes the taste of herbs and spices from the pan, then after use i lightly use soap and hot water to remove the gravy, but i like herb and spices, one reason is i buy the ALDI minted porkchop packs, 6 mini chops basted in mint sauce... good party snack too...

Personally I’ve never bought pre-seasoned steak like these, I prefer to season my own steak at home. As for transferring the chilli flavour to the cast iron skillet as long as you have cleaned the pan properly after use and then re season it with a neutral oil after cleaning it, you shouldn’t have any issues with transferring the chilli taste to whatever you cook in it next time. I use a cast iron griddle plate for cooking steaks or burgers and I have a cast iron skillet that I place on top of my meat when cooking to keep the meat from curling up off the griddle, then turn the meat over and reapply the skillet to get the meat marked nicely on both sides. Must admit that you managed to cook your steak perfectly to the right amount of colour.

Hi Gareth from Spain. Not for me. If I'm going to use up a chunk of my dietary allowance on a piece of steak, I want it to be about ¾inch thick and rare in the middle so that it is tender and juicy. What you have there looks more like cardboard with a load of unnecessary spices on it. With steak, I would pan fry every time, the searing of the juices as they hit the hot pan is what the flavour is all about with, perhaps, a little salt and pepper sprinkled on. Keep smiling, stay warm, -4°C here.

No, I wouldn't cook steaks in the air fryer. My preferred method is a very small amount of oil in a very hot pan, season the steak, sear each side for 30 seconds. Reduce temperature only slightly. Back in for 30 seconds per side, repeat. Total cooking time: 3 minutes. Leave to rest for a few minutes. Put knob of parsley butter on steak. Consume. If the steak is thick, increase number of times to sear each side, although the ribeye I get from Lidl is pretty much always the same thickness. The three minutes produce a medium rare steak. While the cooked steak is resting, pour a few tablespoons of cold water into the pan and turn the temperature right up. Scrape the pan vigorously with a metal spatula to produce a delicious meaty jus to pour over just before eating. Make sure the chips are done in time! They can be done in the air fryer. Note that this method of frying a steak does generate a lot of splatter and smoke, so have a broom handle ready for when the fire alarm goes off.

I believe this turned out to be a myth. The length of time people leave them out before cooking makes no difference to the end result. Especially with thicker steaks. The temperature doesn't really change much and doesn't affect the end result.

I only buy the thin steaks for sandwiches because I can't see another reason for them to be on the shelf. OK I sometimes use them to make beef Stroganoff or my version of beef bourguignon. But that is more down to price rather than quality. I admit that I'm a bit of foodie snob. I would rather spend time in my tiny kitchen creating something special, and tasty rather than watching TV. I've learnt to cook meals from most Eastern European countries, some I love and some I don't, it's all about the journey. To me todays food is now more about the sauce rather than meat quality. You can smother several different steaks in pepper sauce and they will all taste the same. Take away the sauce and you will taste the difference. I'm now a pensioner, so I have to be careful how I spend my money. So if I can save a few Bob by buying 500gms of raw meat rather than 250gms of meat with some fancy sauce? I will always go for the meat option and create my own sauce. But there again some people just want something they can stick in the microwave for a few minutes. Even I do sometimes. But then again I sometimes go for scoff I really like. So one week I might go for a currywurst made from a bratwurst, the next I might go for one made from Bockwurst. I can make a really good stir fry from belly pork or chicken. And I make a really good stew whether or not it's beef or lamb. I have one thing in my mind, I may be getting old, but I don't have to give up my cooking skills for microwave meals.

You should try the medallion steaks from Aldi, Lidll's and ASDA. A lot of people view medallion steaks in the same way as frying steak or braising steak because they are cheaper than other steaks. However, they are tender, thicker than a ranch steak and they have a more milder taste. The cut comes from the thinner part of the tenderloin which creates a steak that is free of muscle and fat. They used to come 3 in a pack, but now come in a 2 pack. But are still well priced. Like most people I didn't know what a medallion steak was and it was cheaper than other steaks I knew. So for a long time I was buying it for my dog to eat on our Friday steak night. Yeah, OK I'm an idiot for that. 🥴🥴. A couple of months ago I thought I would try one. Was I shocked or what? I still prefer my Sirloin steak, but a medallion steak is right up there. Oh yeah, and as for the dog? He now only gets one of the two steaks and I get the other one. 😃😃. So Gareth? Give them a go and educate people that because something is cheaper, doesn't mean it's inferior. 👍👍.

@@marcse7en Marc I totally agree that medallion steaks are worth a review. But I don't think it's because Gareth doesn't listen. He must get numerous meals to review each week. To work through them all will take time. I used to use the dearer steaks for when I made filet mignon for my friends. But I was gob smacked when I tried medallion steaks instead. As a steak they are also not bad. But don't use a strong horseradish sauce on them because you can ruin the flavour of the steak.

Lol with the amount of spices on that plus you had to add tons of sauce means the meat is bad quality. You would have better off spreading the sauce on a slice of bread

i prefer getting my steaks from iceland 16oz for 5 quid last time i bought one was quite a long time ago, and i do like them very well done, you may be shocked by the way i do them, but 10 minutes each side at 160 so there is no pink in them at all, sprinkle paprika, garlic, salt and chinese 5 spice on them, seasoned on both sides, i love it, i think aldi does the 16oz steaks too in both shops they are called big daddy steaks

This sounds weird. But I had a vision of you trying Tesco stockwell rice pudding and other ones like Lidls cheap rice pudding to see what was best. Lol Maybe you don't even like rice pudding but I thought of that haha

You are correct that you're not a chef, chefs work in restaurants and you cook at home making you a home cook ( bare with me here ) and what better food is there than home cooked, You can never get better than home cooked food. Steaks looked lovely just a little over cooked for my taste.

@@BaldFoodieGuy but then you lose 90% of the seasoning because it's stuck to the pan lol, Steaks IMHO should be cooked sous vide and then seared with a blow torch 👍
