I remember several times in the early developments of the tax issue, Tim would say that many Asian countries also tax expats on income and practically dared people to find a better situation outside of Thailand. Well Tim, there you go. I understand your passion in supporting your new home of the "Land of Smiles", but perhaps you can have a more open, less personal biased reporting of the news. You have stated that you wanted to do a separate program or channel that offers you the opportunity to voice your opinions. I applaud that idea and hope you make that transition. @@timnewtontoday there seems to be a problem with education on all types of pollution in Thailand. We had the same issues when I was growing up in the US. It was never an issue to throw trash from a moving vehicle. It takes educating the next generation to expect better .

Well I can say 100% people are nicer , more genuine , more friendly in Cambodia. It's not that cheap like it was before but many things are still a good value . The hustlers are more aggressive which is annoying but it still overall more welcoming environment

Thailand isn't taxing on worldwide income. Imprecise language is very disappointing. Thailand appears to be attempting to tax on income brought into the Kingdom irrespective of where it was earned. This is NOT taxing on Worldwide income.

But the government have suggested world wide income tax from 2025. After this suggestion they have been very quite about it so no one really know when or if this will be a reality. This unclear situation is of course very bad for people who wants to settle down and a good reason to chose another country with more clear future.

Confusion about the expat tax if one stays over 180 days is creating a lot of expats to look for alternatives to Thailand. Many are seriously considering the Philippines where English is the 2nd official language and most documents are in English.

This tax regulation already took a big break on my planning to shift to BKK from dubai. In Dubai we pay Zero Income tax. Yes, living cost is high, but the safety, security, infrastructure r on top level.

O-A visa- which will be better? 800K in the bank or 65k monthly income? If I put 800K in the bank and just use my credit card, will I still have to ‘unzip my pants’ for Thailand to look in?

From America they won’t send a form to show my monthly income from social security ( I made a trip to the embassy in Bangkok. So keeping the 800000 in the bank is easier for me I think some European countries will provide the correct documents. I started using a credit card on bigger purchases so I don’t know to transfer money to pay for bigger purchases I also set up a Wise Account with they have a card that you can use for purchases and withdraw cash from a ATM

O visa means you must pay for re-entry permits if you want to leave and come back to Thailand, but you don't need an insurance policy. OA means it's mandatory for an insurance policy but the re-entry permit is built in. Pro's and con's. 800K by memory, you must have that amount 2 months in your account before renewing your visa and I think 1 month after you get your new visa, something like that.

@@tronwars7130 I read that they want 800000 baht 2 months before and after . I just keep the 800000 year round to avoid any issues. I have the O visa but decided to get the insurance at 62 years old instead of waiting until either I couldn’t get it or afford it . I agree with Tim it’s best to have it and pay out of pocket for smaller procedures, so they don’t raise your rate ever year over minor issues. It’s best to have it if you have a cardiac issue or cancer

If you're an American citizen, you have nothing to worry about because of the reciprocal tax agreements. Just use the ATMs instead of Swift and you'll have nothing to worry about!

7:20 This panic about taxing foreign income is irrelevant to about 99% of retirees. Thailand has reciprocal tax treaties with pretty much all major countries to that your income is taxed either in your home country or in Thailand but not both. So moving the PI, for example, thinking your pension won't be taxed is wrong. PI won't tax it, but your home country will.

You painted the situation as very black and white. As has already been reported, not all tax treaties treat pensions the same. You need to check the tax treaties between Thailand and YOUR country. But, I agree, there are many retirees it won’t affect.

Perhaps you have listened to Ben who say only Thai people are legally allowed to give tax advice, but he forget that he is not qualified just because he is Thai. He is also very wrong about many things, for example he don't understand that all DTA's are not the same. He also underestimate how many wealthy farangs there are, and how they are affected by capital gains tax already today. Frankly, he should stop giving tax advice since he has very poor understanding of it. Wealthy foreigners should also know that the LTR visa is not the simple solution they claim. I have this visa but I have realised it doesn't give the protection they claim.

I have been very curious about the Philippines. It was the other contender before I finally decided on Thailand to retire to and I find it hard to shake the idea that I might save a few more dollars over there while enjoying the same lifestyle. That said, I am loving my time in Thailand and I don't want to get my head too wrapped up worrying about how much greener the grass is on the other side of the fence. At least for now anyway.

I think that there are creative ways to get money transfered here ( Like West. Union ) that are under the radar. WU is cheap - much cheaper than bank transfers - that skim 1% to 2% off the top, super reliable, and readily available. WU.

For me, moving from Thailand to the Philippines was a good step, mainly because of the airpollution, other reason as well (communication for one, and crazy enough Christianity as second) my personal experience from rural Thailand to a small town General Santos (Mindanao), day to day living is about 40% cheaper here. How i know? Same lifestyle, and I have 40% more left over at the end of the month. Lots of other ideas to spend it on😆 hospitality sector and food? Thailand. Living? For us the Philippines.

I brought a new Daikin AC for my condo, top line model with built in 2.5pm filters. This thing has reduced my power bill by around 75%, just incredible. I run it all the time when at home, this new unit is so quiet that on low I can't hear it, and it has a very gentle breeze of air so you don't get these cold rushes on your face/head while in bed at night. If you are retired or, on a work permit but only rent, it maybe well worth asking your landlord to go halves in a new AC, helping them, you and the environment. No point for short term stays, just check the AC's in hotels/apartments before you book holidays and make sure they aren't 10+ years old as they are usually old, loud and not that good.

There is no tax on foriegner income from outside the Philippines eg.pension, superannuation, etc aren't subject to tax. Also, it's 10 to 15% cheaper than say, Thailand. I live in puerto galera on mindoro,Philippines. Love the diving, drinking and the USD$17 (ST) decadence...

Regarding the air pollution , what will happen is a committee will be formed in the next month , some very important people will be sent up North to shout at local governors, some even more important people will be sent to neighbouring countries and a memorandum of understanding will be written . This will take about 3-4 months by which point the burning season will be over and they will all have done an amazing job ...have another medal .
