Air Shotgun Hunting Doves!

For the last couple months I've had the opportunity to shoot and to hunt with a new air powered shotgun from Air Venturi. Using a unique shot shell designed by the airgun gurus from Ohio, this .50 caliber smooth bore (under the Wing Shot moniker), gets the job done! A solid 30 yards hunting gun, this video tells you a bit about it and give a brief glimpse of the gun in action. The full hunt will air on American Airgunner on the Pursuit Network on September 9th! This air-powered shotgun take a little getting used to, because the shot strings are shorter and the velocity lower than a traditional scatter gun, passing shots took me a little while to dial in. But once that happened we were all over these fast flying birds!
Why use an air-powered shot gun? Besides just being very cool, this unique gun is much quieter than any powder burner.... by a significant margin. It allows hunters to shoot in areas where either the noise or the carrying range preclude a traditional shotgun.
The shotguns we were using on this hunt were two of the first test guns before full production kicked in. The production stock has a much more traditional stock design and sighting system. I am using the first production gun to hunt squirrel, rabbit, and more birds at the present time. But in the meanwhile, take a look as we go after doves on the wing!

After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel kzbin.infoUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!

There was an Argentinian air shotgun in nineteens . His name Is "Shark" and made also rifles co2 and then PCP . Never was goodlooking but very accurate and ressistant .

I noticed the Dragon's Claw .50 cal has 600+ fps and the Venturi Air Shotgun is used with buckshot, it is also .50 cal, but it's quoted at 1130 fps. There's no way it can be that far in difference? The Venturi can shoot "slugs" as well as buckshot, so if the Dragon's Claw .50 shoots at 600+ with "slugs", would the Venturi shoot around the same if it's not buckshot? I've noticed .45 and .357 rifles shoot at about 1200fps and in my opinion, you compromise slight bullet size for a lot more speed and penetration. For hunting deer and larger animals, wouldn't we want a .357 that shoots at about 1200fps compared to a .50 that puts out 600+ fps?

It depends on what first you're talking about, Crosman and Falco made CO2 air shotguns many years ago, Gamo made a spring piston. Some Quackenbush guns were converted to smooth-bore, and Terry Tate's PBB shotgun has been around for a few years. I've heard of, but never seen, an Ultishot. My understanding is that this air shotgun was cobbled together from standard airgun parts by a gentleman named Luke Cammaleri. I believe these guns were very low powered and not really a very useful shooter. Would be interested in an further information. I think the WingShot is the first production PCP shotgun.

+Anthony Spizziri I didn't see a bird shot off a line, but then found it on another video edit. I had oversight for the hunters at the farm, and that shot should not have been taken, so I admit that a mistake was made and assume responsibility. We often shoot them off wires on the farm with a pellet, where we have pinpoint control. It wasn't a smart thing to do with a scatter gun. Jim

Is this steel or lead shot? Lead wouldn´t really damage the wires and steel... it would maybe nick it but I still highly doubt that it would take down that wire - I once have missed with a 40 fpe .22 in strong wind and misjudged the range a bit - I shot from about 60 yards and hit the wire with a JSB Jumbo heavy 18.13 gr - the pellet just ricocheted off it. The individual pellets from the shotgun have far less energy than that .22

Do you condemn the lion for eating the gazelle alive? Do you condemn the polar bear for taking 3 hours to finally kill a seal while eating it alive? Its NATURE. We are animals, and we eat meat, DEAL WITH IT. Hunting with a weapon and ensuring a quick clean kill is much better than a lion or bear eating something alive.

i've got a nice collection of shotguns, 20 and 12 O/Us, and a 410 SxS. Its not about money for me, and since this is an airgun hunting channel that is obviously my preference. I would mention that I've also use this gun with roundball for hogs and coyote, and with Airbolts for African game, so there is some flexibility.

+Nugent For President If that is what you want, this isn't the gun for you. I have a few shotguns (outside of airgun hunting, wingshootings on of my favorites hunting sports). Never for a minute thought of replacing one of my SxS or O/U (wouldn't be caught dead with a pump or semi auto) with an air power shotgun. For me it's another way of hunting. It's the same as asking somebody hunting with a single shot rifle why they don't get a semi auto instead, or a black powder hunter why they don't get Remington 700 that cost the same and is a lot more efficient..... matter of choice and personal preference.
