AirDog Lift Pump Installation For Duramax Diesel Trucks

We had a 2005 LLY and a 2016 LML Duramax in the shop and both trucks received AirDog Lift Pumps, we go over the installation on both trucks as well as go over some details as to why we recommend a lift pump on the Duramax Trucks and answer some common questions we get from our customers.

I have a 2009 GMC C5500 6.6 Duramax I just installed a AirDog FP100 but the issue I'm having is bleeding he lines. I left the factory fuel filter connected I connected the airdog to the factory lines. My question is should i remove the OE fuel filter housing and run the fuel feed line from the airdog directly to the engine?

No, we recommend leaving the factory filter in place for the additional filtration.

If you do not plan on upgrading the fuel system and sticking with stock size injection pump and injectors then you can run the 100 and it will keep up just fine for your truck.

Hi Patrick, we apologize for missing that section in this video. It is actually an extremely easy process, you just use a fuel line disconnect tool and press it into the fitting and they should pop right out!

Why not shorten the ground and connect it to the frame at the lift pump if you’re already modifying the harness anyways? Thanks

I bought a Airdog 165 the other day, and spent all day trying to get the fuel line off the top of the tank. Can barely reach it with my hand alone so any tips to get it off with the quick disconnect tool and to get the other one on? Thanks!

There are many different gauges that you can run, whether it is a standalone unit or an edge insight add on there are many available for your application. The Airdog has a port for a standard pressure gauge to be plumbed in.

Do you all recommend a sump in the bottom of the tank for an lml with the airdog 165? Or is the stock setup fine?

With the AirDog lift pumps we have seen no reason to install a sump kit. The factory set up works well and is much less invasive than drilling a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank.

No it will not, this will only serve as a lift pump to supply the CP3/CP4 pump.

Nobody shows how to hook the wires for the water in fuel sensor , why is that ?

There is no additional water in fuel sensors that need to be hooked up, you would utilize the factory sensor on the factory filter.

@@Dmaxstore I made myself a fitting to completely bypass the OE filter housing and removed the housing since it’s not needed .

@@frankammirati3385 No there is no sensor on the airdog filters so there would be no way to make a sensor fit. We would recommend to change the filters every 15,000 miles and check the water drain at regular service intervals or if you are filling up at a new fuel station that you may be worried about contaminated fuel.

I had a fass 165 installed a couple of years ago on my 16 lml, this may be a stupid question, but I'm not very savvy when it comes to this. I want to swap to airdog because I hate my fass, how hard would it be to swap it out? Would I have to rewire/do over everything or can I just bolt the air dog up where my fass currently is?

You would probably have to switch everything over to air dog, the fitting/hoses might be different diameters. Just used to the right stuff, make you life easy down the road.

the piping on the factory has a tendency to collapse and there is better flow with the provided hose with the airdog.

The LML kit uses the factory hard line from the engine to the frame. You did the factory line from the tank to frame hardline. If that makes sense

They say it delays/prevents it. I did mine when the suction side got weak and it Ran out of fuel on the 150hp tune. For peace of mind I did a fleece cp3 conversion last month.

Some folks don’t have the cash for a CP3 swap and or feel the CP4 failure rate is overblown. For those folks I suppose lift pumps and “system savers” are worth it. If you’re convinced your CP4 is going to eat shit then ponying up for a CP3 swap is the only solution.

Thats why the airdog is such a nice kit... Just did my LML. Do not need to drop tank. No draw straw or sump bs to deal with. Also no 1/4 tank issues either because it uses all the factory feed lines. Its a wicked kit.

You will need to crack the bleeder screw and turn the key for the airdog to turn on and prime the system

If I go with the Airdog FP-100 pump am I going to run into cavitation issues on my 2015 LML? I've heard of this happening on the later LML's and guys are installing sumps to address it. Just wondering If I would need a sump or not.

WE have never ran into this issue with any AirDog lift pumps, it seems to be a common issue with some other brands on the market. You shouldn't need a sump with an AirDog 100
