My review for the Sherman Vc Firefly from Airfix in 1/72 scale, a new tool kit with lots of features including link and length tracks as-well as fully moulded tracks and wheels for easy assembly. Both T51 and T62 type tracks are included.

The Sherman "Firefly" Vc is based on the M4A4 (Sherman V) so it does have an elongated hull to fit the Chrysler Multi-Bank Engine.

Great review. I have this kit. One thing I would I point out is there is nothing in the instructions to show the hull machine gun blanking plate application. The part is on the sprue though.

No hull machinegun on a Firefly: the machine gun operator's space was used for 18 pounder shell stowage. The all in one tracks are for people who wish to use the model to wargame with. Far sturdier. A pity there's no open hatch options, though. An excellent source book, is 'British and American Tanks Of World War II', by Chris Ellis and Peter Chamberlain. It features every single version of the Sherman, with details on each, and some superb photographs. Worth owning a copy.

About time Airfix brought their manufacture up to standard! Link and length tracks on 1:72 is a first for me. 1:72 is probably the most common place to start as a hobbyist so want to make a good first impression on the modeler. Options with stowage and one piece tracks make it even better for both the beginner and more advanced scale modeler. All in all this looks like a great kit and hopefully more to come from the Airfix brand.

I haven't had much love for Airfix lately. I took photos of some fitting issues on their new 1/72 Tiger 1 kit. They deleted my comment and photos on their fb page. I also emailed customer support with the photos and they blocked my email. I wasn't even rude about anything. Just to show them the issues. Wasn't even Asking for money back or anything....

​@@jimpatterson5841 - Airfix' parent company, Hornby Hobbies, don't seem to take any sort of criticism well. I've heard similar tales to yours from people complaining about Corgi diecast models, and problems with Scalextric sets. All owned by Hornby. Some of their recent railway models have been particularly poor quality. And over priced. Big company syndrome, I'm afraid.

Closed hatches limit conversion capacity. Box art is wrong- Fireflies didn't have hull machine guns.

Barrel cleaning rods are actually "cleaning Staves". Not giving you a hard time of course, just in line with decals, lol

Be good if they brought a cheap box standard 1.35 firefly too! There foing alot of ex Academy kits to try restore there model name but maybe some good subjects like this in a 1.35th would help them alot!

The new tigers on another channel bit there to small for any of my scale and stick to your way decal! Lol that's the right way obviously haha firefly were only m4A1c or m4A4 VC (5) the A4 being the longer hull with the multibank engine! 5 engines though that's crazy lol but the m4A4 was used by the British for the firefly but the m4A4 wasn't built for the firefly only, you'll see alot around and in your research you will see the top engine pate buldge for the multibank engine and the spaced out boggies on any other Sherman the boggies are a great way to tell straight away

I wouldn't get too excited about the possibility of getting different variants - Firefly is the obvious choice for a British kit, especially if you are making a tiger to go with it. Think that Airfix will see that as 'job done' for small scale armour.

If you want to do a period (44/45) correct troop for wargaming you need two fireflies and two normal Shermans

If anyone's build 1/72 Dragon Shermans you might be able to use spare tracks. Something I'll be trying.

I'm very impressed with that kit. I've not known Airfix to offer link and length track, nor anyone offering the choice in one kit. I'm sure I'm wrong on at least one count; I'm not that knowledgeable about model kits. Marking which way the hull base goes is also very clever. I haven't built any American tanks, I reckon I'll have a go at this kit :)

The sherman firefly is a British tank! Just uses an American M4(A4 i think) hull :)

@@AqueousYT the platform is American-built, as opposed to British-built, that's my distinction. The Firefly is a British subvariant of an American design. It was used by Britain and equipped one of our guns, that is true.

Avoid Revell/germany 1/72 T-90 then. that kit has like 250 of the tiniest parts every made for a tank kit. it was brutal. each Dazzler box was about 1/8in square and made of 5 parts.

Would like Airfix to address the fitting issues on the new 1/72 Tiger 1 kit, and stop deleting my inquiry on fb. They even blocked my email address when I sent photos of the fitting issues.... Airfix has a long way to go to reach Tamiya standards.

I al stop to build airfix, lots of probleems and many money trow it away, but oke airfix back on good way, i hope they do al models in New mol and beterlastic, vb handley page400 the wines are in golf way never to gleu good of Not good in modelsharpnes not good in details to, but for firefly i see not ,any optioneel te buy airfix a d your paint option about mix of vallejo or ak they say ,airfix paint are terrible.
