Going back in time for this build! Currently building this kit about 30 years after I last tried to do any modelling (I was terrible!). So far it's coming out really well.

The non-starter kit version of this one has an extra sprue with more complex tracks tracks and bogeys, and also has the the plate to cover up the bow MG but the instructions still don't mention it. Great build!

Moulded tracks on small armour is much easier as alot of kits this size are gaming pieces, rubber band tracks were a nightmare.

The part on tbe engine cover is a travel lock for the barrel when the tank was being transported. Not sure if there was a locking mechanism in the turret itself but the travel lock prevented the thing swinging loose.

Hi Gary hope you are well.. Just purchased this kit in my local game shop. Just watched this upload and find it useful to watch before building and painting the kit. You have done a great job on the kit. All the best craig..

its a barrel clamp,turret would swing around into the clamp when moving under non combat situations.

Watching this again it's just occurred to me. In the wartime photo the Firefly has tank tracks on the front hull* - according to a WWII British tank veteran on Combat Dealers that was done for extra protection. Maybe if a spare length of tank track could be obtained that could be stuck on the front and cover where the machine gun is but shouldn't be. * Edit: No I tell a lie, it doesn't, but it could and that would be an easy way for a modeller to cover up the gaff.

There's probably lots one can do to make it more 'authentic' and spruce it up - I've got one so might try that one week - how to make a starter kit even better...

It was indeed as mentioned in the video. The non-starter set of the Firefly has the gun blanked off, I'm told.

love the shows and videos; have took your advice and invested in a timber tech airbrush set. i tend to use revell/humbrol paints so with that what would you recommend as a good primer? Mr hobby? Vallejo? any advice would be much appreciated
@thekinksfan51023 жыл бұрын
My experience with some primers. Vallejo Surface Primer has very poor adhesion, it scratches easily, not recommended. Stynylrez - also re-bottled an sold as Ammo Mig One Shot Primer and Ultimate Modelling Products Primer, has very good adhesion, dries very fast into a hard finish, and is sandable. Downside is that as a waterbased paint it tends to suffer from tip dry. And I have had bad bottles from both UMP and Ammo. Mr Surfacer 1000/1200/1500, lacquer based, so they stink. Easy to spray, smooth hard finish, dries instantly, sandable. And know there's a alcohol / water based version of mr surfacer, Aqueous Surfacer 1000. Relatively mild smell, sprays very nicely, smooth finish. It is starting to find it's way to Europe, but not many sellers have it.

Hi Sean. Personally I would look at using a rattle can primer.. humbrol and tamiya do a great primer but majority of us buy a cheap one from Halfords.. rattle cans are a great easy way to prime a vehicle
@garys_stuff3 жыл бұрын
I agree, I use spray cans. I used to use Humbrol but it was starting to get expensive (I’m making too many kits obvs) so now I use jenolite or hycote plastic primers. Available through a famous online store if your local hardware store etc can’t help.
@seangrimes27703 жыл бұрын
@@MOS6510Models thanks! Have looked in Halfords this afternoon and seen the grey/white primers. I’m trying to get better at my model aircraft hence the reason I bought an airbrush to improve paintwork etc. should I decant it first into the small holder on airbrush for better control? Also what cleaner would they use? White spirits or cellulose. Many apologies for the questions
@MOS6510Models3 жыл бұрын
@@seangrimes2770 No need just spray right from the can, keep it 8 inches away and gently blow it in.. gives it a good base for the paint to stick too,,,

Are you suggesting I may be repackaging previous videos under a new brand? That'd be like, oh, like a company releasing kits again with shiny new boxes. What was that? They do? Hmmmm, time to get a-editing!
