I always use tiny staples to join Airfix rubberband tracks. I always paint the tracks, too, to stop the PVC they are made from reacting with the polystyrene of the wheels. Painted, and with the join at the top, it's all but invisible. It's a fun little kit that looks great in Arab desert colours.

Great review and build. Minor correction: the Panthers still carried 75mm guns not 88mm ones.

Lovely job :) As for the gun barrel.. in lieu of drilling the end out, a spot of dark / black paint on the end could get the same effect at a distance :)

Nice build, Gary - not that there was a great deal to it!! I have just added the Airfix Centurion kit to my very small stash - the similar kits for the Chieftain and Challenger will be added too, when I can find them to purchase. The JS-3 cries out to be put onto a diorama base - how about it? Best wishes from Wirral.

So much to do, so much to do!!! I've got a Laffly truck to build that needs a diorama base too...

I remember when the Airfix kits came just in a plastic bag not a box lol😆😆😆😆

This was probably one of them originally!

@@garys_stuff yes you are probably right but I used to buy the HO/00 Railway kits those Esso tanks when filled with ballast and new wheels and couplings were very good for the price. The Station Canopy werent that good but you could fit motors into the locos albeit battery to work on the track. Still got my 1960 platform that my dad built for me. Oakham or Braintree & Bocking on the station nameplates

Is that plastic as soft and flexible as it looks? That lower hull and wheels section, looked almost as bad , as Poundland/ Dollar store, 2" green army men tank's, plastic.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
No it’s reasonably rigid green polystyrene. Fun to make!

I think IS was probably the Russian spelling of Joseph (Stalin) Iosef [Edit: Watch the video Julian, Gary said that! :) ]

How can you not drill out the gun barrel and say it looks OK? The turret is the wrong shape and the machine gun is an extremely crude representation of the real thing. Airfix magazine had an article on how to correct this kit back in the 1970s.

Well, that's great, but I was building it as a kind of remembrance of things past - how I used to build kits when it was just plain fun. I built this for the first time in (probably) 1969. Yes, there are many, many things that a modern re-tool would overcome and the aftermarket in photo etch, resin and metal must be buzzing that the basic plastic is available again for not very much money. Yes, I could now drill out the muzzle brake. I'm not sure how many of my viewers would want to, but if they are that bothered about it then I suspect they've already thought of it. I'm looking at the kit as it comes, that's all. And for me it's OK, for a 1962 model. It has aged considerably better than I have.

I like your videos but I'm not sure why you pick such awful, jarring 'music'.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
I'm toning down the music - I know the volume has been an issue. I try to get music that reflects the subject but it doesn't always work. Of course, it has to be free of copyright issues too!

the worst is3 model I've ever seen....I wouldn't spend money on that

It is ropey, but the moulds are the same age as me and while I'm not exactly past it yet I'm certainly a long way from my prime! Just gave me happy memories!
