My goodness this is a far cry from the original Airfix Tiger I tank I remember as a boy. From memory the original had individual wheels to cement and also rubber tracks that were a nightmare to assemble. Great kit though, a real challenge. Loved the video, thanks for posting...

I remember them too! Nowadays they suggest using heat to bond the flexible tracks instead cement and getting everything covered in black goo. These new starter sets are a delight, I must say.

Thought: Could you cut the top off the box and glue up the ends? Then you have a handy tray to keep all the bits in :) Save buying a tray and you know it fits :) Also once you're done you have a handy parts tray for paints, brushes, glues, etc.

@garys_stuff

I'm tempted by a diorama at some point - I've used various scenic stuff for my 15mm war-games figures in the past and I'm keen to try the techniques on something bigger. Maybe one of the D-Day sets. I'm going to try to do the Sherman Firefly starter before Xmas, but next year do some 1/35th vehicles as well.

With the detail wash, how about a 50% mix of black and the body colour, then thinned? The result should still bring out the details but be a darker version of the body.
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Good idea for the lighter tones of e.g. the desert Tiger. If it isn't dark enough you can always add more black!

Hi Gary, brilliant video as always, i've learnt so much from your videos. One question, is the vent cover you put on the top the wrong way round?
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff 10 ай бұрын
Ah, no idea I'm afraid. It was a very long time ago this build! If that's the little scoop-shaped bit forward of the square hatch then it only goes on one way as there's a little depression in the moulding of the turret.
@daveybyrden3936

It's not a vent. It protects a periscope.

I bought this kit after watching this, my first tank. Did you use some powder on the end of the canon, and did you use a coat of varnish before the wash?
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, yes I used a little bit of weathering powder around the end of the barrel. I have a set of Revell powders, pretty cheap online, or Humbrol do one as well. Just a little at a time of an old brush and dab it on gently. Its what you can use for things like engine exhausts as well. I didn't use varnish before the wash as I wanted a little bit of it to stain the paint surfaces to make them look used. If you want one a bit more factory fresh then I'd use a gentle coat of gloss varnish, do the washing, then a coat of matt to seal it and make it look right. Best of luck with the build, and thanks for letting me know! Cheers, Gary
