Cheers Harry, remember building this in the early 70's. Slapped together and hung from the bedroom ceiling. Thanks for the memories

Sunderland is such a great subject, classic. Appreciate all the patient thoughtful work to move the kit from toy to great model. Your approach to the PE is full of good tips and sanity maintenance.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
Thanks Eugene.. I learned years ago, you don’t have to use every PE part on the fret. Just use what makes the kit better, you can actually see, and is humanly possible to bend and glue without going insane!

I always wanted the Airfix Sunderland kit when I was a kid back in the 70s, mainly because of the action-packed scene in the box art, but couldn’t afford it. I’m still trying to hunt down a red-stripe box of it. Meantime I have the Italeri one in the stash, but it is the Airfix kit that has my heart. I’m glued to this build review mate. 😊

The Sunderland is really coming along Harry. It looks like a good model to work on, considering it’s age. Keep at it buddy, and cheers for now!

Hi Harry, It's going to look great. Why don't you put a strip of LEDs inside, that would look nice with the portholes and indirect light for the cockpit. Thanks for the video and good continuation👋🏻

The light from those is strong and may well show up directly through the white plastic 😎

@@soppdrake There is also dimmable leds and the fuselage can be primed in black but I agree, it complicates the thing.

Just caught up today.( Some big thing on yesterday, all flags and stuff). Sundy is looking pretty bloody good, even with the vac formed canopy you won't see bugger all though. All I might do is bung some masking tape seat belts on the now buff pilots. Good vid work, very good.

I learned from one tutorial on the HK Lanc that the chap uses the canopy from the kits and he uses a black sharpy (pen) on the contact faces of the clear plastic canopys and the thick silvery reflection on the inside is lost making it not look so thick...That giveaway silver is lost...It's a cool trick...On the white sunderland you might try white paint in there...I love to see folk bring the old kits up to date with tricks and knowhow...I made this kit back in the 70's...
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
Sharpies or Texta pens are alcohol based ink which can fade in a very short time. But yes painting the edges black does hide the prism reflection so gives the illusion the plastic is thinner. Future also does this to canopies. But neither method can reduce the lensing distortion of the interior due to the thickness of the plastic.
@lewistaylor1965 Жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels 'Prism effect',...That's the word I wanted to use...hehe...Ah, so Sharpys don't last long...Hmm...I need to find another paint for that job...I was really excited when i saw someone do this as I'd always been aware of the issue but not known how to hide it...Thanks for the info...Learning all the time from everyone I chat to...Thank you...Lew

Thanks for reminding me of the black out trick. If you see the recent post to my community page I show just how well it worked on my Sunderland cockpit with the thin vac form canopy on.

Are you going to address the oversized portholes? Apparently they are oversized. Seems people fix this by finding some styrene tube that fits the holes then cut and glue slices in the holes. That though means you can't use the kits transparent parts. Or just live with em as i would! 😊
