I haven't made an Airfix kit since the early 80s. I'm going to make this, and a diorama!

That's a great kit design for a starter set. I have the old tooling Airfix 1/72 Tiger, and the not so flexible "rubber band" tracks broke long ago. This new design looks a lot better. The video had a lot of great tips for beginners. The only thing that could be added was applying a black wash to the engine air grates, which is super simple to do.
@vincentlefebvre92552 жыл бұрын
The old kit was instead in 1/76.

This was amazingly well done, really good for people new to the hobby to see what you can make with out of the box stuff. Really really impressed!

One of the first kits I made - maybe 50 years ago. In those days this was a 'Series One' kit sold in a clear bag with a paper header. Quite easy to make a fairly decent job of this one, making it ideal for beginners who need to be encouraged by a successful experience.

I got my Tiger almost a week ago and wanted to state that as soon as I opened it one of the biggest pieces on the sprue was cracked, don’t know if it’s from Airfix themselves or the shippers. Should I glue the crack together ?

Wasn't the Airfix Tiger (and all other Airfix military vehicles, come to that) originally marketed as being 1:76 scale? Or is this a different kit altogether to the old Tiger kit (I guess it was the late 1970s when I built one)
@mathersdavid5113 Жыл бұрын
Yes this kit is the new tool made in 2020 in true 1/72 scale. The non-starter version contains length and link tracks and separated road wheels.

With the many discussions over the 'correct' colours and markings for AFVs, aircraft etc. that occur periodically, I recently bought this kit and painted it in red and yellow stripes because it's MY model and I'll finish it how I want to - ! 🤣

Can I make Tiger 131 from this kit?
@choccymilklord592 жыл бұрын
No, tiger 131 us what's considered a DAK early, meaning it had different rear and front fenders, half of the side skirts parts were tilted up, the filters on the rear, s mine launchers and the early drum cupola. The version airfix have depicted is a mid production tiger 1. Hope this helps
@HO-bndk2 жыл бұрын
I'm amazed they didn't make it an early production vehicle, actually.

To paint the rubber, just mask off the wheels etc with a hundred small pieces of masking tape.
@OneofInfinity.Ай бұрын
There are better and easier ways to do that, but u got to start somewhere, good luck with your hundreds of small pieces

Inho, these wheels and tracks do not belong on an early rubber-tyres-Pz. VI, To make th9is a 1944 late Tiger with steel rimmed wheels, he complete wheels should be painted like the rest of the tank.

This kit was designed for beginners though, like their new 1/72 Spitfire starter set. If somebody wanted a super detailed kit, they could get a 1/72 Dragon Armour Pro Tiger kit.
@Mr_Bunk2 жыл бұрын
The original Airfix tank kits were designed to be played with after construction. The old Tiger kit also has far less detail and many glaring omissions like the rear turret stowage bin and the exhaust covers.
@BattleshipOrion2 жыл бұрын
Why are you rivet counting a beginner's model? Surely if you have time to nick-pick you have time to find the old Airfix Tiger.
@Reactordrone2 жыл бұрын
There's a non starter set version of this kit that has two extra sprues with separate road wheels and link and length track, tow cables etc.

@@BattleshipOrion He's nowhere near articulate enough to be a rivet-counter, he's probably just an idiot.
