I have shot jsb exact 15.89grain .22, 5.51waisted diabolo for ten years through my Weihrauch 100 T. They have been reliable and accurate for all those years. Until recently when I started getting a high percentage of flyers. I had the rifle serviced at Hull Cartridge where the gun came from. I then had the gun serviced by an independent gun smith to see if the problem was in the rifle. The gun was passed safe and accurate to use. So then I looked at the jsb,s. And what I found was the pellets when weighed ranged into three distinct weight ranges. Heavy 16.5g medium 15.86g and light 15.00g all from the same tin using calibrated scales.Also jsb has changed the design of the skirt depth from an average of 2.367mm original to 3.471mm latest. An average difference of 1.107mm. In a deeper skirt length. With a pellet height of a constant 7.56 that makes a percentage difference of 6.829. That can have a major ballistic effect on a pellet of 7.56mm. The batch number on the tin is 40560018.

Loved the wasp pellet as a kid I guess those diabolo are a modern equivalent. The Bisley was the regulation pellets for many of the competition shoots. Those hollow slugs were the typical fairground pellets. Oh the good old days when a range was common place at a fair.

Well I've thougherly enjoyed your video even though it was made quite a while ago now. Reading some of the comments just proves there are some stupid people about. I fully understood your using different rifles for the different types of pellets used etc. At least I understood it wasn't a comparison, but a demonstration of these pellets. I certainly wouldn't want to ruin a nice rifle either. I actually learned quite a lot as I didn't know about lead balls for a start. I actually used another brand I can't remember now but they were like the Prometheus, a Zink plastic skirted pellet. I used to have to use a brass brush pull through to clean the barrel after a good few went through to clean out the plastic but by God they were very accurate and powerful, they would easily penetrate the door of a steel clothes locker at 30 yds and put a huge dent in the back plate as well. That was using a PCP Daystate MK ll Huntsman. Happy days. I've watched quite a few of your videos now and have really enjoyed them all. 😉👍

Nice to see results side-by-side, & compare on the same medium. A note about airgun darts, there are two styles; one has the "hair" tail, as shown here, which are meant for use in smoothbores. The other has a longer, fluted plastic tail, which are meant for rifled barrels. I shot the latter out of my Crosman 1377 pistol many times at a dartboard target, & with only two pumps, got excellent accuracy out to ten yards. However, they do impact far lower than standard projectiles, requiring major sight adjustment or hold-over.

Back in the day I remember using those Prometheus in my Theoben. 22 Eliminator 30ft lb break barrel. Bad ass as the crack suggested that they were breaking the sound barrier even with standard theoben moderator. Theoben did not recommend these because of plastic residue left in the barrel.

Those zombie trackers are useless. The glowing tip is at the front so it flies away from you when you shoot it and you never see it. Pull out the glow tips and glue them in the back of the skirt of a diablo pellet. They're easier to charge with a uv torch when they're loaded and you can actually see them👍

Seriously though, you did a good job. It was a little slow a few times, but you did hold my attention for 24:35. I would have shortened the description of similar projectiles (do a quick showing of them) and would have focused more on comparing the exit channels. Showing which one created the most damage, deepest penetration, most takedown power, etc. Maybe use a piece of meat for a more accurate measurement in the future.

Through my experiences, I found the Prometheus and similar types are best used for penetrating hard surfaces and high projectile velocities.

920 FPS is about the speed at which the transonic pressure wave begins, this presure wave is problematic for diablo type pellets because of the aerodynamic character of diablos and should be considered maximum accurate speed for diablos. Slugs don't have this problem and are usually heavier than diablos, so much better at delivering energy at distance accurately (all other aspects being equal).

Louis Peters Because if my understanding of them is correct, they need to be crushed to go off. I fill the skirt with wax, same effect as dieseling (a little less actually) and way less messy, did a few with a drop of lubricant under a wax cap and those worked well too, just not accurate

A quick question if you don't mind? Drozd Blackbird (Russian made bb machine gun) From what I understand it is available in both smoothbore and rifled barrel...but both barrels are designed to shoot steel bb's only. This is contrary to the wisdom of that the steel shot should not be used in rifled barrels. What is your opinion on that?

@griffintaylor38614 жыл бұрын
Honestly, with weaker airguns (In Canada so 500fps>) I've found that they do actually improve penetration a slight bit. I think its more because of the stronger head but with hard targets, I find they do bury themselves a couple mm deeper than traditional lead and will go through things that traditional ones almost make it through. Just my finding though.
