AIRGUN LONG DISTANCE HYPE ?
We discuss long distance shooting with modern air rifles are they more hype than reality ?

Shooting paper is one thing, shooting at live animals is another. Being consistent is difficult the further you go, one reason you rarely see me hunt past 150..not worth it to look cool. Good points, enjoy the videos 👍

Mountain thanks for taking the time. Yea for me 150 to 165 yards seems like the max and where the rounds break down and consistency really goes to hell fast. I like your videos keep up the great work !

I think people have real rifle expectations out of an air rifle. Arguably air rifles can often out shoot powder burners at 25-50 yards but 100+yards just doesn’t carry the speed and weight. Like you mentioned about .223, triple the speed of most airguns better bc etc . Add in ethically taking small game accurately at 200 yards. I used to shoot archery and you’d hear guys say they were taking 100 + yard shots at deer also. Shooting targets at far distances , ok fun . Injuring game at insane distances not cool:

Amen…. Yep… the new guys into airguns might not know better. I shot archery as well and it was always drilled into us 1 to 40 yards anything more was really pushing it. Thanks for watching and the kind words.

I agree with you both!! I’m not trying to make long shots at a live target and take the chance on wounding it. I learned at a very young age from archery it takes more skill and patience to get as close as possible to take the perfect shot and I find I’m enjoying the challenge it takes to get there using my lower powered airguns. Just look at our friends over in the U.K they’ve been doing it for years!!! Good video! 👍🏻

@@robertpiontkowski2164 Yes, those 12 FPE shots are pretty amazing. I like watching them work the art of a 8.4 pellet only going 800 fps. Thanks for watching.

Ok. 49.5 Altaro slugs 920fps out of my .25 Vulcan 3 has definitely changed the long range game for me. They really handle the wind much much better than your traditional slugs. Was hitting a 6inch gong at 500 yards the other day. I’m beyond impressed. Of course they are crazy expensive…..

Very rightly brought out the very basic, practical and pleaaure aspect associated with air gunning. People going crazy... spending thousands of $$.... hallucinating themselves as a WWII sniper. The over hype of hitting at long and longer distances is taking away the mental peace and pleasure of air gunning.

I think part of what makes long range air rifle shooting with smaller caliber interesting is learning to do proper wind holds. Seems like competitive air gun shooting are figuring out how to get out to some impressive distances. Just not super ethical to hunt at those ranges.
@ShootingTargets727

Yep, agree.. 12 FPE at 100 yards is really challenging and fun with just the slightest wind. That said .177 at 300 is fun but not really practical. Thanks for watching !

@@ShootingTargets727 Is not need .308 caliber, just have the right slugs with hi BC in .22 or .25. Just by the way, the .223 in the airgun ATP Super King 66gr is already very close to the BC G1 0.3 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmW3gWVorZaDoZo

@@ShootingTargets727 unfortunately, until we have an agreement to send the airugn via UPS, if we have no way to get the rifle to the US, but negotiations continue and perhaps already in the right direction. But if you are able to get about 250 m/s and load, for example, ATP Queen .25, then their BC is already sensibly high even for shooting, say 300-400m . With ATP Smooth .25 is aslo posiible get about 300m in wind.

I will add the Texan is prone to barrel leading. I use a very tight cotton patch and hoppes bench rest #9 solvent. Note: i would not recommend for use in anything other then the Texans as the barrel are free of o-rings. I’m not sure if this solvent is safe in rifles where air enters the rifle’s barrel through a transfer port! For what it’s worth, it seems the leading was worse on the Rifle was new than it is now. Also, the barrel will require 10-15 shots to re-season after a thorough cleaning. Cleaning does make a huge difference in consistency with these Rifles.

5:02 "on a island there is no wind blowing", do you know how islands work? the wind on a small island or coast blows always harder because the wind can travel freely over the water without obstacles before hitting the coast/island. The wind on the panthera video was legit, thats why you hear the guy in the beginning of the video saying "if i hit it we are going" and he refered to when he will hit the can he will start filming, and than he shoot the cans without much time inbetween the shots. Which tells me they did not hit everyshot and once they hit a test can they know the wind and shoot real quick 4-5 times on a can before the wind changes to much and they would have missed. Also check out the Video "What is Mach Trimming? In Depth Discussion with Bryan Litz (22LR Breakthrough)" from the youtube channel Ultimate Reloader, there he is interviewing a scientist who does work for lapua or the government to calculate and research projectile trajectories etc. and he mentioned that with .22lr and airguns you will start missing after 220-250 meters because the G1 and G7 drag model everyone uses for calculation will start to be inacurate.

ahh that makes sense, I do the same, If i know its going to go and the faster the better in shooting to get say 1 to 5 shots really quick. Thanks for the insight.

Dabbled with higher power, larger ammo and calibre. I soon got bored and poorer. The smaller calibre, for me is more enjoyable, no brute force, reading the wind etc. As a old FT colleague once told me, treat the wind as a friend, it will educate you. Life and learning.

Thanks for another great video. I have no issues with long range, like you, in my part of the world it seems to be windy every day, normally 10-15mph. But I enjoy the challenge & i have no issues out to 150yds, if I have a target at that range I hit it, if I don't I investigate why. My gripe are those daft fools who post a slow mo of 300yds let say, but the laws of physics clearly show it's closer to 100yds 😂 when you question them they vanish, even some big company sponsored KZbinrs blatantly lied about range. One made me laugh, claimed 100yds, so as he walked i counted his steps, 85, but he shuffled, a Jack Russel dog had a longer stride 😂

The Texan in .308 has been wonderful! My rifle under normal condition will print consecutive groups of well under 1.75 MOA (untethered) @ 200 yards. Think tuna can size groups at 200 yards. Most of my videos of 200 yard shooting has been untethered. Tethered I’m not sure what the .308 is capable of at 200. Simple unregulated tethering on a good day prints 1.08 MOA using my cast Lee 120’s at 100 yards. I’ve heard the .257 Texan is the best long range platform but I’ll brag on the .308 based on what I’ve seen & done. Plus putting 175-210 fpe in target at 200 yards is kind of special when compared to non-big bore competitors.

Every one of my AGT’s are capable of 300+ yard shots, I shoot birds over 200 yards every week. But I absolutely miss more then I connect over 150 yards, and anyone that says other wise is full of it. Wind is definitely our biggest enemy! Yes I have killed birds, squirrels out to 350-390 but there’s alot, i mean A TON of luck involved.
