I kind of picked up on that energy too! I agree, your hubby is adorable. It is always interesting to hear his perspective on things, and it's good to know there is a reason for everything that happens on a flight. BTW, I always book a window seat (and I always pay the extra to choose a seat with a bit more leg room), and I like the shades open. I feel better if I know what is going on around me, and the light helps me read better. I read paperbacks on a flight, I don't read from a screen, so the light helps my aging eyes.

Another really useful Q+A ❤. It never occurred to me that passengers can ask to speak to the pilot (I wouldn't dream of interrupting them, no need for me to it). I always request an aisle seat. I also always have a check-in suitcase. I'm short, not physically strong, and unless travelling with another I won't risk fighting with an overhead locker. My carry-on goes under the seat and contains my essentials.

Thanks for including your husband in another video; I love to fly & appreciate learning about his responsibilities & activities. I respect what pilots do for us and our safety. When I leave my flight I always take the time to thank the pilot for a safe flight. My husband is a Veteran who learned how to become a helicopter mechanic and eventually became a helicopter pilot. After servicing for a full career in the Army he now works for EMS he calls himself a fancy air taxi driver. He has flown helicopters now for more than 25 years of experience. He does two weeks on two weeks off with the flight crew paramedics and nurse.

What I've never understood is why someone would pick a window seat and then pull the shade down! I've had to sit in the back of the plane with ZERO windows and the guy up ahead pulls the shade down. I'm claustrophobic and it drives me crazy.
@SnowySpiritRuby

Window seat is wider than middle and aisle seats on some planes - CRJ200, 737-800, and 737-900 among them. I usually leave the window open because I love looking out (I always get a window seat), but when I flew on Monday, the sun was glaring into my eyes for most of one of my flights (window seat on R side of plane, flying east in the morning), so I had it closed most of the way (about 2" open at the bottom) for most of that flight, which also allowed me to get a nap in because I was exhausted.

Don't know which airport you're flying home out of, but if it's Heathrow, be aware that they have a track record of being super strict with liquid bag sizes and might make you use one of the ziploc-style ones they provide at the checkpoint. Not sure whether any other UK airports are like that or not.

Our pilots did that for us last week, and it was really nice to simply know that it was coming and approximately when. Personally, turbulence doesn't make me nervous - to be honest, I kind of enjoy it (especially if there's a sudden drop - the planes are so overengineered that I know there's zero reason for me to worry), and when the wings are flapping up and down hard enough to shake the plane, it's just proof that there's nothing wrong with it and the plane is designed to handle it just fine - but I know it does other people, so I was grateful on their behalf for the pilot's announcements; mostly, I just always make sure I don't ever have any open drinks and my seatbelt is fastened in case we hit turbulence unexpectedly (when I fly, it's always over the Rockies, so turbulence is a fact of life for me, so it's never a matter of if, it's a matter of when).

Hello there! So grateful for all this information you guys provide for us! I have a question: can the crew/flight attendants obligate us the passengers to close our window shades? It happened to me last month in a day flight from Hawaii to CA and of course the view from my window seat was so beautiful that I wanted to keep it open but a flight attendant demanded to close it so was wondering is that is a correct action or not? Thanks so much!
@TravelTipsbyLaurie
@TravelTipsbyLaurie 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Oh man, they can say to keep it closed when you land to keep it as cool as possible. The only thing we know is that sometimes they say to keep them open for take off and landing. I would ask another f/a if this happens again.

My 19 year old son is three weeks away from his FAA oral exam and check ride for his private pilot license. He’s stressing himself out, causing self doubt and thinking he won’t be ready. Any suggestions on how to better prepare for this phase? Thanks in advance!
@TravelTipsbyLaurie
@TravelTipsbyLaurie Жыл бұрын
My husband says if he reviews the Practical Test Standards (PTS) and knows every bullet point he should do fine. Most examiners know that you are going to be nervous. He may not get every answer right but as long as he knows most of them he should do fine. Examiners also like to teach so they may use a wrong answer as an opportunity to teach your son something. Always be open to learning and he should do fine.

Hie ! Thanks Laurie for the great youtube videos 🥰🫂❤️ Took my first airplane flight last month (April 15th) I was ready, I was less stressed and I was able to give infos to my older sister before our flight too. We had 2 more after that, we were almost pros, Ahahah. It’s always fun and helpful how you explain it. Thanks again Laurie!

Lithium batteries. The person with the speech device, it might have a larger lithium battery. There are restrictions on those in cabin. Great video, thanks!

I enjoy these videos so much!! I am a window person. I do have an international question. The last time I flew to CDG about 3 years ago, there was a plain clothes US Marshal sitting in front of me. How many do they have on international and domestic flights and are they on every flight?

Hi, they are not on every flight and they never know if one will be on their airplane.

On a flight in fall, 2022, we were delayed after loading for a 9ish am flight, ticket agents were on and off making arrangements for connections and pulled some people, and then we were further delayed because they had to switch out pilots. I’ve never had that situation occur before. How frequent is this? More so post-COVID?

Hi if you have precheck you can. Technically you have to pull it out and put it in the bin. Some airports have new tech and do not make you pull it out anymore.

About medical stuff like hearing aids etc find the page on the FAA page that says something like you dont need to turn it off if its a medical item. It seems not ALL people know the rules and its sad. Ive ran into a few myself in the past.
