I never, never make comments on anyone’s KZbin! I have to take a minute and tell you I think everything that you say and do is amazing. I believe you truly want to help your audience! We have been traveling nonstop since Covid and retiring. I have watched all of your videos and do not have one negative comment to make. I have pulled so much great information from you! I don’t know if you’ve ever mentioned this, but I do take the backpack or bag that I put under the seat in front of me and use it as a footstool. It does really help in long flightsto have something to prop your feet up on. Again, your videos are the best!

Flight Attendant here; Don't pick the row right behind Premium or Comfort Plus. The Premium seat ahead of you will recline more and you have MUCH less room. Yes, the aisle seats have less under seat room, mostly because of the seat hardware on the 737s. Moving seats when there is an open seat. ASK US, please! We will probably say yes, especially if you are nice. We have to say no to moving to a Premium seat because other Pax will report us and we get in trouble.

Laurie, You are so right about the room under airline seats changing and about the size of seats changing in airlines with a 2 5 2 configuration. I just recently flew Aer Lingus from Amsterdam to Seattle and my husband and I both sat in the 2 seats on the sides of the plane. The distance between seats is less. I'm 5'0 and my knees were 1 inch away from hitting the seat in front of me. Those seats in the middle of the plane seated to get more space. Also when the person in front of me leaned back, the screen on the seat head rest felt like it was so close to my face. Don't get me started about eating or using the tray table. Also, my backpack (which usually fits under the seat in US domestic flights) had to be placed in the overhead bin. It was a long 9 hour flight and made me reevaluate what I will travel with in the future. Love your videos and tips! Keep up the good work! Merry Christmas!🎄

Yes, last week I had the aisle seat for the first time in my life, and I now understand its drawbacks. I'm a window "seater" and I thought the middle seat was the only one with drawbacks but I realized there's less room under the seat in the aisle seat, I had to kick my bag to make it fit lol. Plus, I found I couldn't fully relax because of the people constantly walking the aisle and the flight attendants and their carts. I also couldn't see out the window at all from that spot. The experience left me with less hate for the middle seat unbelievably.

I don't fly that often, but on our last flight that electrical box under the aisle seat was a menace! I like that seat for ease of using the toilet but it was bad enough that I am debating on whether or not to take a personal item at all; I'd rather have room for my feet I think. I just flew premium economy to Vienna and it was more comfortable than the main cabin and worth the extra money for an overseas flight. However, the space for a personal item was awkward for the aisle seat (I’m a bit claustrophobic) and the foot rest was worthless and took up space for the personal item area, even when in the up position.

I measured my seat and the middle one nxt to me and the aisle seat was over an inch narrower! There was also considerably narrower leg room under the seat in front of me

Laurie, there is a seat that is worse than a bulkhead or an exit row seat: the exit row-bulkhead combo where I ended up this year on a 10 hr. long-haul flight. It wasn’t comfortable or convenient at all, but I was grateful to be making the trip at all. I’ve used SeatGuru for several years & swear by it! There are also comments about specific seats from other travelers which are helpful. I hope you & your family have a very Merry Christmas & lovely New Year! I’m looking forward to more tips in 2025.

Oh man I found out about the bulkhead the hard way on a flight few years back. Was proudly sporting my splurge on the return flight, a purse I’d purchased on the trip, when I was told to put it up above me. It wasn’t an enjoyable 30 minutes 😅 (I’m one of those that likes “my stuff” nearby even if I’m not using it). No more bulkheads for me.

You are so right about 50 minutes not being long enough to make a connecting flight and especially if you are flying into a major hub. I know this and am very careful when I book as I did recently. So what happened is that the airline changed my flight time which decreased the 90 minutes I had in my original ticket, down to 58 minutes and my change is in the Atlanta airport. Ugh, I’m hoping that since this flight is still in the future, that the airline will make another adjustment in the right direction. For years I have noticed that the under the seat room for the aisle seat is the smallest. I would buy a bag specifically for under the seat only to be thwarted by a new configuration for the aisle seat. I have 2 beautiful bags that are not useable for storing under the aisle seat (I used to do a lot of business travel). Thank you for all your helpful tips!

I had a similar experience. I was flying to Munich through Amsterdam. I only had about 50 minutes in transfer time. I didnt know Schipol was *that* large, and didn’t know I’d have to go through immigration at Schipol (not Munich). I baaaaarely made it, but the most annoying thing is I flew KLM! Both flights were KLM, booked through their official website. KLM’s base is Schipol and they should know 50 minute stopover from international to eu-territory is barely enough 😭😭 (edited for clarity)

I would add too regarding the IFE boxes that this is generally dependent on airline. Almost all of Delta’s planes have had these for years, so no real changes unless you haven’t flown in 5+ yrs, but some of the other major carriers are either rolling them out more extensively or removing them. Seat guru is a must. Make sure you read the comments on all the seats in the area you’re looking to sit.

You've made great observations. The seat pockets seem a waste now because nothing will fit in them. I don't recline my seat, ever, because it makes it uncomfortable for the person behind me. Airlines are making it exceedingly uncomfortable to fly anymore. I have stopped using SeatGuru because they're website has not been updated since 2020 for many airlines I use. I agree with you that first/business class is not worth it anymore. Gone are the days where you got a blanket and pillow, a preflight drink, and a meal. Pay more, get less is the motto of the modern world.
@shayxtreme
@shayxtreme 15 күн бұрын
I agree with you about reclining. I simply don't. I'm 5 10" and if a person in front of me reclines in economy my legs are pretty much locked and i can barely move. My knees are literally against the seat in front of me. I think all seats shouldn't recline at all since they are making the space decrease. Advice to people,you are not at home so if you wanna feel at home then stay home.

I love the window seat. I usually don’t need a restroom break, maybe once on a flight over 4 hours. I like not being disturbed and being able to look out the window. If I’m getting tired, my airplane jacket can be folded up and leaned against the window and I have a really comfy corner to rest my head for a bit.

On a Delta flight from Boston to SLC I was seated in the row directly behind First Class...it's considered a bulk head row. Issue is thst the monitors are attached to the floor and even if not in use, there is a metal pad that sticks out from the lower seat area and puts pressure against, in my case, my left leg. Then across the aisle was a bathroom. I thought that was a hoid idea if I needed to use the bathroom, which I didn't but everyone else on that flight used that bathroom and everyone that went in to the bathroom slammed the door!! Sounded as if everyone was mad!!!

@TravelTipsbyLaurie. All the travel tips channels and the various comments show me useful packing ideas, suitable luggage and tote bags, how to wear a coat backpack style by adding removable straps inside. I've just bought a couple of compression cubes to try out, and a set of non compression cubes. Another channel showed multi pocket utility vests, and a full length coat with many many many (16?) pockets. I found a utility vest in a charity shop for £4.50, it looks unused.. Not quite the pocket sizes I'd like but I shall give it a trial run - anything to help lighten the crossbody and shoulder strap bags. I may even try making my own, patterns are avsilabke. One hand hauling the wheelie case and the other hand free for a folding walking stick for rough ground so I don't carry totes by hand or on the shoulder - every bag must have a handle sleeve, plus two handles to slip over my arm, plus a shoulder strap.. . And at 4 score years the weight of everything becones an issue. Also size - 2 small cases fit better into my son's car instead of one big one because the boot also takes my toddler granddaughter's big folding buggy pushchair, changing bag, snack foods bag and bag of colouring books , crayons, and toys so she doesn't become bored and fractious. Through these channels I've also looked at the small bags in the luggage section of TKMaxx., and found the near perfect crossbody bags for daily use. So, I may no longer be flying so I don't have to concern myself with size restrictions, hoping my luggage arrives with me, crowded airports, major delays, huge temperature changes at my destination, and being confined in a small space (I'm not good at being shut in - a touch of claustrophobia?) ... but I do travel in the south of England, , by car or public transport, so I have always made my cases identifiable with neon webbing straps/and knotted around the handles. Happy Christmas to all. UK. E♥️

PS. And if I do end up needing a flight somewhere I have all these channels to guide me about how I should prepare. I've always filled and taken small toiletry bottles and pots abroad (and travelling in the UK) and bought large new when I arrived. Didn't always need to open them. Left them all, for the hotel cleaning staff, with a thank you card. E♥️.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Laurie - I always watch the travel tips channels for new products, clothing, staying safe in hotel rooms, just anything and everything, especially lightweight . The one thing I cannot do is have woollen clothing - itch itch itch! Because I am skin sensitive. I understand some merino wool can be okay, ditto cashmere? If I ever see 100% either in a charity shop I will buy and try. I may buy either as knitting yarn and make a simple scarf to try. I bought a charity shop jumper that had part wool, itchy after 20 minutes or so. I now read all the labelling. I gave it to a friend who uses it as a first layer under her top jumper or sweatshirt. I always offer the unwanteds to family, friends and local community before donating to the charity shops. Happy holidays, see you in 2025. E♥️

We also chose Even More Space Exit seats ( row 11C and 11D)-Jet Blue. We loved them! So much leg room even with backpacks stowed under seat in front of us , and they did recline. We also were lucky that there were no other people sitting in our rows both going to and from Florida! We may do this again next year as it was a very good experience for us. I flew 1st class in 2004 to Omaha and we didn't get food 20 years ago either. We go a tiny bag of trail mix. The seat was a bit wider and there was more leg room but honestly I wouldn't do it again unless I was flying maybe one coast to another for that wider seat and leg room.

United changed their 1st class policy in January of this year in that they no longer serve a meal if the flight is under 900 miles. They never announced this change was coming so imagine my surprise when I flew from Denver to So Calif in December and had a meal but flew back a couple of weeks later in January only to be told there is no meal service. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy that I’d paid for the 1st class ticket months in advance thinking it would include a meal. I now save my money on any trip under 900 miles.

35 minutes to connect is what I see for many flights… and airports like Charlotte and Atlanta are quite the hike to next gate. Aisle seats have much smaller under seat space. I prefer the window seat, around row 8 and don’t hesitate to get up several times. Yes the aisle seat is narrower. I’m a size 14 and my hips barely fit. Love your videos. Happy New Year!

I agree about being bumped in the aisle seat and I also find the feet area for the aisle seat is also reduced and awkward. The only advantage to the aisle seat is having to keep getting up and down for the middle and window passengers so you can keep exercised.

I almost always book the window seat because I can lean against it. Especially good on long flights when I'm trying to sleep. I do my best to time my bathroom visits to coincide with at least one other person in the row. I fly out of a small, regional airport, then connect in a larger hub. I've found my personal bag doesn't fit under the window seat because something runs along the outside wall of the plane. Sometimes, I switch bags with the person next to me. Sometimes, I put it in the overhead bin, since my carry-on is usually gate checked on smaller planes. On these smaller flights, first class isn't worth an extra expense. I do get free upgrades on them from time to time as a loyalty member. My worst seat was on a United flight to Iceland. I was against the window when the guy in front of me reclined into my lap. I was not able to move the entire flight! The seats were so close that we couldn't walk between them. We just had to fall into our seats and I'm not a plus-sized person.

On my flight back to the States from Johannesburg last July I some how ended up with 2 empty seats beside me! I was in the middle row, aisle seat. I remembered the person on the phone saying something about the advantages to the seats near the back and I think that was it. There were several rows back there with 1 passenger per row. I was able to lay down to sleep for most of the way on a 14 hour flight! I will try to book in that area again when I go back this year and see if I am as lucky!

I got seated near the galley on an overnight to London. Ugh. There were dishes clanking and banging, the cart kept going by bumping into me. The smell of coffee brewing did not help induce sleep, what little I expected to get. Then there was the chatter of the flight attendants. I agree stay away from those seats unless you are on a short trip and need to stay awake.

True about reclining seats...............but I am heartily sick of people reclining so much that my food tray is almost under their seatback. I think seats need to be changed to recline only a couple of inches. That gives your neck a rest but allows the person behind you to still eat and to watch their videos. I have to wear glasses to watch the video and if the screen is only a few inches from my face, it is very uncomfortable. So folks please, sleep at home or learn to sleep sitting up. Please get your seatback out of my face !

Merry Christmas to you too. I had always preferred the window seat so I could take pictures. After Covid I liked the aisle so I could face out and get up to use the bathroom too. For our trip to Switzerland this year we, for the first time, got premium economy seats, and they were great. We had the two by themselves. Still couldn't sleep because I need to have my feet up and there was a crying baby all night. So after we watched a video on the bulkhead seats in Premium Economy for our trip this year. ( we loved Switzerland so much we are going back) we noticed that the bulkhead seats have a footrest that you can elevated your legs. I am sure it isn't real high, but I am hoping it might be enough. I never wanted to be in a bulkhead seat before, but after watching so many of your videos, I now know to put anything I might need for the flight in a small bag that I can keep on the side pocket of the seat in Premium Economy , I will let you know in October, if I made a wise decision. Thanks again for all your tips. Happy New Year.

I got seats on a delta flight on row 13 and when I was double checking my flight later it said row 14. I called and they said they changed it to 14 and I could change it back if I wanted? As long as it was the little more expensive seats and not over the wing I was ok. Not sure if there is a seat 13 or not??

I finally got a middle seat. I just let the airline assign me a seat. I am small so I have plenty of room. However, the people on either side of me took both armrests and their bodies spilled slightly over my seat. If I were taller or bigger, that would have been a problem.

I was a diehard window seat lover for YEARS. I enjoyed looking out the window and I wanted to be able to lean to sleep. However on my last trip I switched to aisle because there was a seat available and I was having tummy issues (not sick, just nervous belly issues...) I absolutely LOVED the aisle. It was a day flight so I wasn't sleeping. And I got lucky and nobody was in the middle seat so nobody disturbed me the entire flight to get up. I had so much room I never had before and if made the flight a lot more enjoyable. I think my new go to will be window for overnight flights and aisle for day trips.

Hi, Laurie. I have a Lovevook backpack. The metal rods in the main compartment drove me crazy when I tried to squeeze it under the seat in front of me when I sat in an aisle seat. I was able to take the rods out. I just undid some of the stitches on the grosgrain ribbon a couple of inches, slid the rods out and was able to use my sewing machine to sew them up again.

Twice I’ve been in Premium Economy/Plus on international flights (AF and KLM). I forget which planes they were but they were a 3-4-3 configuration and there is a bar/box in the aisle seats on the 4 portion. I could not fit my bag under the seat AT ALL. The person next to me and I were fighting for foot space. Never again! I’ve only had footrests in Prem. Econ too.

I have never been on a plane that has a foot rest, and I’ve never had a good seat on a plane, next time I fly I’m hoping to fly a little bit more comfortable. I’m a bit tall so if I had to get out of my seat too go to the bathroom and the person in front of me is reclining I couldn’t get out because their seat was in the way. I do think they have every right to recline, but I don’t recline. My legs are pretty long, every single flight I’ve ever taken I’ve had little bruises on my knees from hitting the front seat lol.

American Airlines aisle seats have less legroom now and the seats on the aisle seem to be thicker and lean back more so they are much closer to your face than before. So keep that in mind if you usually pick the aisle seat like I do. I have only flown in the first class bulkhead seats a few times. The last time I sat there I traveled with a checked bag and one carry on. It was much easier that way sitting in bulkhead.
