Thanks very much Chris for your time. I have been on planes with “rough air” several times and it is not pleasant at all but I stay seated, calm, and buckled seat belt. I always try to thank the pilot(s) if at all possible when getting off the airplane. I wonder if they ever hear people thanking them for the flight. Thanks Laurie!!!
@jenharvey3397 Жыл бұрын
One of the reasons I keep my seat belt buckled throughout the flight, unless I am actually getting up to walk to the loo. You never know what could happen and you might not get any warning, so it just makes sense. I also go out of my way to thank all the flight personnel. You are right, I'm betting they hear far more complaints than thanks!

Very interesting video. My husband flies for the USAF and is familiar with some of this. One thing about bird strikes: not sure about other parts of the country, but in our area (Seattle), local and state government is trying to find a location to build a new airport, since SeaTac is almost maxed out in airplane space. Many proposed sites DO NOT want an airport in their areas, partly because of protected wetlands and nesting birds. Flight patterns can disrupt the normal migration of birds, as well as their yearly nesting habits. As my husband learned in a safety class about avian habits, these disruptions can lead to an increase in bird strikes, which can be potentially disastrous over populated areas.

I have flown military “hops” which is basically standby on a military plane. It was a great benefit but like commercial standby, you may or may not get on a plane. Used to help the ground crews change out the glass when they were damaged by birds. It's multi layered so a bird hitting one isn't going to fly inside the cockpit. They are very heavy to remove and change. Many years ago the story goes they developed glass that could withstand a big bird strike. The company called and set up a demonstration. They had a air cannon set up that would shoot a dead bird into the glass. One small thing they overlooked and that was getting a dead bird. So they sent assistant to a food store to quickly buy a chicken. He comes back and loads the air cannon. After the heads of the company gave their speeches the cannon fired the bird to the glass. The bird went flying thru it as a hot knife in butter. They were shocked as was the audience. The moral of this story is don't use frozen chickens when testing aircraft windshields.

Thank you both!! So cute how your “stage” personalities balance eachother’s. 😊 Curious, realizing airlines’ policies vary…what/who/when is the determining factor for the pilots to turn back to original departure city or nearest airport, when a passenger is initially upset with a flight attendant’s reaction but neither a threat nor nuisance to anyone else? Like from the point of the flight attendant reporting a complaint (not made by any other passenger), what do the pilots need to confirm first from the f.a. before deciding an emergency landing? Thanks.

When I last traveled years ago, the airplane weighs the checked baggage to see if it was overweight and needed to be charge more for or lightened, but I’ve never seen any airline weigh personal bags or overhead luggage and/or people themselves. If a plane goes down for being too heavy and have “no lift” I always wonder if that’s why.

I don’t mind turbulence and just figure it is part of flying. I keep my seat belt on unless I visit the bathroom because you can have turbulence at anytime. My last flights, from Grand Rapids to Dallas we were told we were going through some rough turbulence and the seatbelt sign would be on most of the flight. I did not think it was that bad. Flying from Dallas to Sydney Australia we had a patch of turbulence that was very impressive but never had the seatbelt sign put on or an announcement but found out later we flew over a tropical cyclone. Anyway I think the turbulence just addsto the adventure of flying.

I have a question. Though I'm not entirely sure it's something Chris (I hope I spelled his name right) will answer. I personally haven't flown since 2009 or 2010. Since then I've had Achilles heel spurs removed from my right heel. And my understanding is that two surgical steel soft tissue anchors are holding that together. It doesn't impact my ability to walk. But I'm fairly certain that TSA won't like me. LOL. I'll likely trigger those alarms. What tips do you have for this? And as it relates to meds and stuff ... I don't think I ever traveled with them (I have bipolar) anywhere but my personal item bag. Thanks for the pro tip about change of clothes.

Hi Andrew-this video may help: bit.ly/DisabilityTSALine and also the walk-through may help too: bit.ly/HowToTSALine For me, it is not bad if you make the alarm go off; it just means to add 5-15 mins to your arrival time. And have so much fun again!
