@tom211t You are spot-on. The engine sound is a dead give-away. This is the DC-9-50 with the JT8D-17's. The MD-80 series wing also tapers off much more at the end and the JT8D-200 series has a much higher pitch and shallow sound than the JT8D 9-17 series.

There's a sudden drop of views down to about 100 or less a day, i simply change it back and they skyrocket back to about 1000 views a day. FYI, this is NOT an MD-80....This is either a DC9-30/40 or 50.....That is a JT8D-17 screaming out there...No MD-80 has ever been that loud in the back...Besides, the engine inlet is too small to be a JT8D-200 series of an MD-80..

We built hundreds of those MD-80 and 90s at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft, in Long Beach. It was the best job on the planet! The MD-95 was the next generation of the DC-9 airframe and had many modifications. The '95' had BMW motors (not sure if all had that motor). Boeing purchased MD and discontinued our product lines; one by one. Now the facility/property is just a memory: torn down and redeveloped. Sad!

In the 70's I was in the RAF and we used to see something similar whilst running Nimrod engines on the ground in wet and windy conditions, as the engine sucked up some puddles. Quite cool to watch. Sometimes, you could feel them - er - tugging at the shoulder of of your coveralls if you were stood in the right place. Felt just like someone trying to attract your attention, only there was never anyone there.

this has nothing to do with explosion, even nothing with sucking up exhaust of the engine. The only thing you could see was a vortex created by the low pressure (when water vapor becomes visible) at the intake at the engine.
