I love your Tillandsia assortment! One thing that you didn't mention is that, when you hot glue a Tillandsia to a prop is to put the plant on it's side to glue it. The roots need to breathe. Also, when you water your Tillandsia, you need to shake the water out of the center of the plants after you spray them. They should be put in a bowl of water to soak every other week, and sprayed lightly when they look/feel dry. Shaking to water out of your plants after any type of watering will prevent the Tillandsia from rotting. Thanks for sharing your video!

I just don't get the 'need to shake the water out of the plant' thing... in nature, they don't all grow sideways, and the ones that do grow upright catch water, and plenty of them are huge... so what's the deal?

Sharon Greggs She stated to place the base on the hot glue. You’re saying place it on its side. How do we know which side the pups will grow from?

@@shinecam1 I don't like the glue part. Root glued can't breathe I think.

@@podboq2 I think I know the answer. Air plants in nature do not receive water directly like when we spray or soak them in captivity. In nature air plants live on the sides of trees, underneath the canopy of the rainforest. They receive their water from the air in the form of high humidity and fine mist. This means that water doesn’t pool up in the base of the leaves like it does when we water them, which can cause the plant to rot out. Haven’t heard this anywhere so it’s just a guess, but I think I’m correct.

Hot glue to a plant?!😟
@ABPL05225 жыл бұрын
Yep. It doesn’t hurt them. The only reason we’re advised to hot glue the base of the plant rather than the leaves is because when the leaves fall off, the plant will be dismounted, not because the glue hurts the plant. Super glue is a whole different story though, and can kill the air plant.

@CaliforniaCactusCenter4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching our video! All the Tillandsias are live plants and the hot glue will not kill them. The glue cools off very quickly and we only glue at the base of the plant rather than the leaves. If we hot glue the leaves, then when the leaves fall off, the plant will be dismounted. Super glue is a whole different story though, and can kill the air plant.

Can I put air plant on top of the used coffee ground?

I never had any luck with Bulbosa or Caput Medusa, and Seleriana. The bulbous species. They always turn dark and die, and I do follow the general instructions.
@CaliforniaCactusCenter7 жыл бұрын
The Tillandsia bulbosa species is prone to rotting. While Tillandsias love air and moisture, we recommend watering this particular Tillandsia twice a week by using a spray bottle. Mist the plant about twice a week if kept in a well-ventilated, filtered sunlit area. To prevent over watering, do not submerge in water.

If it’s mounted on something like the wood, how would you soak it? Remove the glue and just reglue it?

@@CaliforniaCactusCenter So the glue does not affect air plant growth?Will the roots of the plant stop growing?
@CaliforniaCactusCenter4 жыл бұрын
@@1ying263 Thank you for your question. No, the glue does not affect the plant from growing. Tillandsias thrive by absorbing the water and nutrients in the air. We recommend misting or spraying the Tillandsias two to three times a week. We have a Tillandsia arrangement that lasted for years and we use hot glue to secure the base of the plant to a driftwood and the plants are still growing.

Can my air plant live in my office? Is indoor lighting sufficient?
