@ the end he’s clearly right. Most people are not so intelligent a.k.a stupid. Customers walk into a restaurant (not full to capacity) ask “are you open” as the sign clearly flashes “open”. They don’t understand the restaurant do offer takeout or in vice-versa “can I dine in”.

Well a guy tried to put explosives in his shoes that’s why they make us take our shoes off. You out to be me, I’m a 75 year old woman with 2 knees that are artificial made of metal and and other stuff. Then my ankle is really swollen and they think I have explosives packed around my ankle so I get patted down because they don’t believe it’s really my body part. Then I have wires hooked up to my spine that are attached to a little battery pack that is also in my back so they think for sure I’m going to blow up. Then one winter I put hand cream on my hands and that made them think I had touched nitroglycerin because they rubbed my hands down with little strips and put them in a machine that registered that I touched glycerin which is in hand cream and the explosive so I got taken to a private room for a more thorough search. I was on a motorized scooter because I can’t walk and they chemical tested it and searched it. I was so embarrassed, a crippled, old white woman who made the mistake and put hand cream on in the winter got searched and harassed for nearly an hour because they thought I was dangerous.

Same except it was nail polish remover. It was HOIRS prior I had removed my nail polish, and washed my hands a bunch cause I hate the smell. It set off the explosive detector too. Glad I was 2 hrs early.

The dreaded shoe removal ritual became part of the TSA screening process after Richard Reid, better known as the Shoe Bomber, tried to detonate an explosive device in his clunky sneakers on an airliner shortly after the 9/11 attacks. Thankfully the shoe didnt explode due to he sweaty feet & thankfully for fellow passengers who subdued him as well & noticing the bomb his shoe As a result, in 2006, the TSA began requiring all passengers to remove their shoe.

The problem with airport security is not how invasive it is. The problem is how innefective it is while being invasive. Just give everyone a 38 when they board the plane and their won't be any hijackings.

@@TruckTaxiMoveIt There are bullets that disintegrate on impact with anything tougher than human flesh they are incapable of causing an explosion or a serious leak in hydraulic or fuel systems. Depressurising a plane is not a big deal and a lot more difficult than you think. Planes have flown with daylight showing completely around the door without any problem maintaining pressurization at altitude.

I went through the x-ray in the smallest airport and STILL they had me step aside and wand me... and I am a middled aged white woman (not tats, no wierd stuff like piercings...no drugs...nothing) and machine STILL thought I had something that needed to be scanned....wierd. And, I hadn't traveled since b4 cv 19, and I couldn't believe they actually had signs posted, telling us threats won't be tollerated. Lastly, the announcement on the plane about how we need to respect other people's choices on whether they want to mask up or not. And, finally they even had to tell folks that if they are masked up, that if the oxygen mask drops, that they should take off their paper mask off and put the oxygen mask on.. I mean, what the heck happened to us??

You just want confirmation, doesn't seem that stupid to me. Besides which, plenty of people hang out at bus stops trying to bum a smoke or money, and will still be there after the bus comes. And I've personally seen the bus drive right past the stop on three separate occasions, and had to wait for the next, so even if there weren't random people standing on the stop fairly often it's still not that dumb of a question and breaks the ice as well. Sometimes the bus gets there early so it never bothers me when people are nervous and ask that.

I'm very white and living in Arizona. I can't get thru the gate without sweating, so dark spots always show up on the x-ray (which is plenty embarassing on its own). Then I have to repeat the undignified pose out in the open for the pat-down. When we flew to Israel years ago, I was taken into a private booth and didn't feel so publically violated!! The "gauntlet" we run to get on a plane here and now does NOT make me feel safer.

If it makes you feel a little bit better, I’m a disabled white female in my 60s. I get the special TSA treatment every time. I have to use a cane, so my cane gets taken and sent through a different reader. My bags get examined after they go through the scanner, and I get the special pat down every time. The Chicago TSA was especially thorough in their patting. If it happens once in a while, I might chalk it up to being unlucky, but it is every single time. On my last trip, it was 3 times in one day. I finally asked a TSA agent what it was about me that warranted getting searched every time. She said that it could be that I was wearing loose-fitting clothes that could hide something. I knew that answer was a load of crap, but decided I’ll never get a real answer. I sometimes wonder if my name is mistakenly flagged in their system for some reason.
