I was 13 in 1987 at a weekend campout (Boy Scouts) at Wright Patterson AFB. We were probably only 3 football fields away from the runway and would go to the end and stand there watching aircraft for hours. We saw F-4s, f-15s, F-14s, and Harriers all weekend. The F-14s and Harriers were the loudest. You couldn’t hear them when we went to the end of the runway and stood under them, you felt the sound. That’s how loud those two were. And yes I remember the heat from the Harriers well!

Great to see these older planes too. No KZbin back then! Lol. Thanks to James and Stu for sharing. Phantoms really had a smoking problem. F-14s were a big jet stood next to one at an airshow in southern New Hampshire. Harriers are a cool jet without them there probably wouldn't be an F-35B

It was June 1994 not 1993. My friend and I rode our motorbikes from Yeovil to the TT on the Isle of Man which was a great holiday but we were more than a little disappointed to have missed all that activity at Yeovilton. We had access to the airfield in those days. However much film I'd have bought for my camera I'm sure I would have run out. Thanks for posting the video.

The F-111 were a real liability for the Australian Air Force. Incredibly expensive, limited capacity and a troubled history. Apart from use in Vietnam they made their mark as a show plane doing the afterburner routine. They were quickly superseded. Australia just keeps getting caught up in wasting huge amounts of money on out dated technology. The current deal with France on submarines is over the A$80 billion and who knows when they will enter service. Advanced drone technology would be a better investment for Australia than ageing aircraft and submarines. Some of the Soviet fighters in this video are impressive and impressive pilots. The US should never think it is and always will be the best.

@@geoffbreen2386 Which is why Britain should have continued the TSR2 project.
@geoffbreen23863 жыл бұрын
@@tonkerdog1 I'll have to research that. I always thought the "HarrierJump Jet" (as I thought it was known), was very under rated and technology worth improving on. Sadly it seems to have been a one hit wonder when those people signing deals only want speed not versatility.
@tonkerdog13 жыл бұрын
@@geoffbreen2386 I’m not military but used to fly with an ex Sea Harrier pilot, Kris Ward. His dad fought in the Falklands war and was also a Sea Harrier pilot. Kris is unfortunately no longer with us.

@@geoffbreen2386 I used to live near to RAAF Amberley in Queensland and the F1_11s were often flying by my house . Love seeing them but you are right they were rather long in the tooth . As for comment about our new subs well I could not agree more . Our government really got the subs wrong . They could get the German or Japanese subs a lot sooner and they are probably just as good .
