@Eragor-h5n27 күн бұрын
If I were to put my two cents in, the reason why so few coasters were closed was because of the pandemic. Many theme parks, especially Six Flags, lost revenue during this time and couldn't tear down deteriorating rides even if they wanted to simply due to the cost of demolition. So the pandemic resulted in a lot of rides remaining intact, save for a few, such as Goliath. With that said, due to attendance going back up and theme park operators willing to spend money on their parks again, I think there will be more rides scrapped and replaced before 2030.

Actually, it's Six Flags that's taking over the Cedar Fair parks. I fear for the next five years of coasters because of the merger. I wouldn't be surprised if not only do more iconic or beloved coasters bite the dust, but a few of the lesser parks in the mega Six Flags chain go under too so the company can pay off its massive debts.

As a local who knows a lot about Valleyfair: They're not removing Excalibur any time soon, at least they say. There's solid evidence why they wouldn't though. It sits on a flood zone, and if it was removed, the city wouldn't let them build anything new on that plot of land unless something substantial and expensive was done to irrigate the area to make it less prone to a flood. Steel Venom and Corkscrew honestly probably have less time at the park than Excalibur.

I was looking at some of the comments, and I came up with a new idea for a video: "Donate a Coaster". This is where we take the largest parks in the greater Six Flags chain (including both legacy Six Flags and Cedar Fair), and an equal number of lesser parks that tend to be overlooked by their respective sub-chains. Each of the big parks must give up one of their coasters, and once that's all done, the "donated" coasters are distributed across the lesser parks, with each such park getting one. Parks that don't play are mid-tier parks, as well as smaller parks that already have 100% development. It'd be an interesting exercise to see which coaster would make the most sense for each park to give up, and where those coasters should go. For the "big" parks, I'm thinking: Cedar Point, Kings Island, Carowinds, Canada's Wonderland, SF Magic Mountain, SF Fiesta Texas, SF Great America, SF Great Adventure. For the "small" parks, I'm thinking the four "have-nots" of legacy Cedar Fair (Valleyfair, Dorney Park, Worlds of Fun, Michigan's Adventure) and four of the lesser legacy Six Flags parks that have room to expand (SF America would be in the mix; the other three may be a bit tricky--St. Louis, Darien Lake, Great Escape perhaps? I think Frontier City and La Ronde may be too developed to play, but I could be wrong about one or both).

I got introduced to you through your Geauga Lake mini docs, and I’ve been along for the ride ever since. We’ve even commented a few times, including you dropping a Buy or Sell on the same day I was at Kings Island, so kudos are more than warranted and earned. Since we’re talking coasters that could be gone in the next 5-10 years, I want to put my 2 cents in and call out The Bat at Kings Island. Let me be clear: I love this ride, as its original incarnation as Top Gun and I took my last ride on it back in 2023 with friends. One of them getting a cut from, of all things, the safety sign. I know it’s the final Arrow suspended coaster, and that it’s still kinda popular, but we all know these Arrows have service life’s and without Arrow these days, they need a outside manufacturer like Premier Rides or Vekoma to overhaul them. But these suspended coasters are kinda in their own niche and I couldn’t see Premier or Vekoma taking it on to overhaul or retrack it. Considering that Vortex reached the end of its service life after 33 years, I think the Bat might make it to 2025, but 2026 would be 33 years and it might be on borrowed time til then. Plus, if a Son of Beast reboot (hopefully RMC but who knows) is ever on the table, taking out the Bat makes for much more room to spread out the ride if they ever end up reusing outpost 5 and resurrecting it in some way. Again, I love the Bat, but I think it’s time is likely sooner than later.

The only change I would see at the Madrid parks is if Parques Reunidos, who operates the Madrid Parks and Real Madrid World in Dubai, moves the planned Six Flags Dubai hyper to Parque Warner and has the station at Stunt Fall and then it runs out to the abandoned "Parque Warner" branch of the commuter rail and then comes back. I don't think we have a good layout diagram of the planned hyper so I don't know how it would be situated but Parque Warner has the space and I think importance in the chain. The Power Splash would probably make more sense as the German parks (Movie Park and Belantis in Liepzig) or Bobejaanland as a replacement to Dreamcatcher or dry slides and a ferris wheel-they could probably squeeze it next to the Wild Mouse since once side is not at Parque de Atracciones. Kennywood is my home park and I really really hope between them and S&S, they can get Steel Curtain back open… They’ve already got footers going in to do reinforcement structure. It is such a fun ride, especially for a small park like KW.

Coasters that I predict will be gone within 10-20 years (and their replacement): Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain: This Arrow mega-looper has been in operation for almost 35 years now, and it seems as though Six Flags may wanna keep it around much longer than we thought. However, I believe that by 2026, it may be time for it to tear it down, maybe replace it with a MACK Rides Giga. Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa: A B&M multi-looper which has been in operation since 1993, and doesn't appear to see any signs of closing down yet... Keyword is "yet", because it will close eventually. I believe that the ride's final year of operation will be 2028, 35 years after it had first opened. Perhaps parts of the track can be reused to build a B&M Giga, reaching a top height of 350 feet and a speed of about 100 mph, stealing the title from Fury 325 as the tallest coaster to use a chain lift. Flight Deck and Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland: 2 unpopular rides at a top-premier Cedar Fair park, and they're still alive and kicking, which is just unbelievable. I'm hoping that next year will be their last year of operation, but even that would just be threatening the average coaster enthusiast with a good time. I believe their last rides will come around 2026 once AlpenFury has siphoned away whatever attendance those mechanical torture devices will have had left by then, leaving open a nice chunk of land to build a worthy replacement. Hopefully a launched B&M Invert or Wing. Viper at Six Flags Darien Lake: This is another classic Arrow looper that we might not see get ripped apart any time soon, but mark my words, that time will eventually come. Just not this decade though. Next decade, when it has gone over 50 years of operation, it will be time for it to give its final rides. I expect that to be around 2033, which will be 8 years from now. Its replacement will likely be a completely brand new coaster type, perhaps even from a future ride manufacturer that nobody knows about. Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi: The last remaining relic of the coaster wars will likely be the current world's fastest coaster. It may be a landmark coaster, but with Top Thrill Dragster having been re-done, and Kingda Ka having ceased operations entirely, Formula Rossa is clearly not invincible to time. My prediction is that it will be gone sometime between 2027-2031. I honestly have no clue as to what will replace it, but whatever it may be, let us hope it can be just as iconic as the ride before it. Falcon's Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya: This ride is so massive, it will undoubtedly be a maintenance nightmare, and a very huge one unlike the other problematic coasters that came before it. Furthermore, it is being built as part of a government-funded project that nobody really asked for in a country that is a prime example of why theocracy is a horrible form of government. As impressive as it is, nobody is gonna fly to a country like Saudi Arabia, a country that is notorious for multiple human rights violations, just to ride the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster. I really don't believe it will last within 10 years, let alone 20. I think I'll give it 5 years, but still, I don't expect it to be as successful as any of the record-breakers that came before it. Not even the park itself. All the other rides at the park will probably find new homes in other parts of the world, and hopefully in countries that are not ruled under an authoritarian regime. (more to come soon)
