Honestly everyone should have a system to clearly mark ownership of every bit of food in the fridge. I got divorced 3 times due to oatmeal based misunderstandings before I realized what was missing... a bottle of Pink Sauce for her and a bottle of Blue Sauce for me. If it isn't covered in pink or blue sauce, it's fair game. It has saved us 100s of arguments and was far easier than expecting me begin to understand the complexities of basic human interaction. I feel so bad for the girl in the first one, working that much at a young age and paying for all the expenses relating to the dog and then likely being manipulated by her father to give the dog away after all that time and money put into it is just awful. I'm also disappointed that the mother seemingly did nothing to step in to at least mediate between the two and help them work it out in some way, although I don't even see what the girl was doing wrong in the first place.

The concept of an "Alpha" is a long since disproven concept of wild animal packs having a "leader", also called "The Alpha". This came from a study that has not only been heavily criticised, but even the person that submitted the study admit to it not being good work and also not at all being applicable to real wild animals. So really all you need to know is that anyone using the term "alpha" in any context unironically is wrong by default.
@TravistheGREAT03
@TravistheGREAT03 2 жыл бұрын
He is phrasing it badly but that is actually a rare instance he is correct on in his story. You HAVE TO BE above your dog in the hierarchy of your family or "pack". Your dog is not your "friend" and people who think dogs understand being at the same rank always get problems. And for those who say: My dog is equal to me and he doesn't make problems", NO your dog does not see itself as equal to you in that case.
@porcuspine2368
@porcuspine2368 2 жыл бұрын
Well just based on how the dude prioritized the dog being obedient, you can tell he has a terrible perspective on dog ownership. What he's saying is that he wants the dog to see his daughter as the one in charge. He's basing it off of the totally false and vastly disproven idea of the 'alpha wolf', where you need to be strict, stern, and strong to be in charge. In reality dogs should be companions, and I feel bad for all those dogs he mentioned he 'cared' for.
@Baleur
@Baleur 2 жыл бұрын
@@porcuspine2368 Dogs should be companions AND see their owner as the boss. That isnt an outdated nor disproven nor false idea, this is how dogs have been evolved (naturally and later via human breeding that favors dogs that can live with humans in peace). The problem with the first story is that the daughter has to pay for all of the vet bills and visits. What 16 year old can afford that with their own money without getting a job. I get the feeling you're trying to allude to a certain crazy yet disturbingly popular talking point that is completely 180 degrees opposite to reality. I'd love to give the benefit of the doubt but no impetus comes to mind for you to post this unless you're employing that bizarro world logic, so I'll just say this: 1. A court vacating a previous ruling isn't making a federal law, 2. courts do that a lot, 3. RETURNING power to the states is obviously the OPPOSITE of taking power from the states, 4. a certain recent very momentous ruling did just that (returned power) by vacating an obviously illogical, unconstitutional ruling, and that's OBJECTIVELY what happened, not merely opinion as any informed, intellectually honest person would admit, and 5. it's especially egregious to claim the instance in #4 wasn't a case of #3, let alone to say this return to state level democracies is somehow an "attack on democracy!!!1!!", yet that's what certain political group is doing (which says a lot about them). Even people who liked the result of that old ruling admitted it was trash in its reasoning (a judicial fiction) and were openly worried it would be reversed because of how absurd its "logic" was (which is what happened). And I don't just mean some weasel wording of "people"; it was practically all the legal scholars at the time, though they later got indoctrinated because that ruling became Party dogma and the Party became a death cult that wants to "celebrate" what they themselves previously admitted is a tragedy. If you're being honest about it, the now-vacated ruling is where the violation of states rights came in. Duh. I realize you could be alluding to a number of other things instead, but this seems more likely in the greater context and I don't mind posting this response anyway as it wasn't some big effort even though you might think it's long.

Thank you. I was going crazy listening to NL missing this point. For those of you who are still unclear, it's more probable than not that the girlfriend cooks both communal foods AND meal prep dishes, and it would have been kosher for the boyfriend to eat those communal foods. He just misjudged which type of food the oatmeal was. He didn't communicate that to reddit, which is on him. It's not looking like communication is his strong suit, anyway. NL is a very sane man, but he occasionally misses obvious things once he's made his initial interpretation; it's the same thing as when he can't understand familial relationships like "brother-in-law's sister's nephew" or something like that. I don't judge him for it, as he is plenty gifted in other mental areas, but the fact that the majority of chat didn't pick up on it and let the repetition go on forever instead was killing me.

Maybe I’m missing something, but if none of this was communicated by OP why is the burden on NL to assume something outside of the post? Also the edit where the girlfriend says that if he wants one of her meals he should ask her while she’s prepping makes it sound like him asking her to make shared foods isn't something that has happened until now. In that first post, this "the dog wouldn't know her as her alpha" made no sense to me. I don't know that much about dog raising, but aren't there adult dogs you can adopt from a shelter and have it be fine? It's not like they need to imprint on people to understand they are their owner or something. They can get used to following more than one person, like we had a family dog and we kinda all were her "alpha". Just seems really weird understanding of dog bonding to me.

Table manners need revising. Not using utensils doesn't represent a lack of etiquette, and in fact it ostracizes people who eat with their hands. My mom's Indian, and we eat Indian food with a hand. It doesn't make us impolite

What was that oatmeal guy's argument? You can't survive if you skip meals... so you should stop making meals? Well, if you can't survive without your medication, maybe you should stop taking them.
