Yep, his lack of awareness is staggering. The condescending, "well, fortunately he's outgrown his abrasiveness" line showed how clueless he is. Z was abrasive because his family treated him like crap, and he couldn't get through to them with reason. That he's turned into a good man is in spite of his parents, not because of them.

OP is so oblivious. Not picking a side IS picking a side. You can't be neutral when someone is being hurt. OP & his wife are huge AHs. Edit: His son wants nothing to do with them too- which OP completely ignores. Double AH.

I mean, in some situations it’s okay to be neutral but only if it’s in a situation where there’s really no right or wrong answer. A bullied situations however, there’s *clearly* a right and wrong answer and the poor boy’s entire family chose the wrong answer.

But... but the bully is the son of their friends! It's a great opportunity to bond for both families through wedding, the golden child daughter and son of friends as a couple, dream of every set of friends with kids. Who would care about the bullied son? He should man up and go over it. /s In most of such stories I observed that usually it's easier for people to stand up to the victim and excuse the bully instead of showing the bully their place and supporting the victim. Yikes.

The mom doesn't deserve any understand anymore. Why isn't she helping OP help them. She just let him make all the sacrifices and wallowed in her unhappiness. It takes time to become an alcoholic. She basically abandoned OP too. Now she has the nerve to downplay the ex's actions? Yeah whatever. And if the sis is an adult, it's time for her to do some adulting since she thinks she can dictate how OP feels about all he went through. He does both need and deserve a break from putting them on his back. NTA.

Story 1: His family failed him miserably and is horrible for what they did to him. However, in the update to me, it seems like he is trying a little too hard to make his life look amazing when in reality it isn't that amazing. Granted it is his right to make his parents feel like the heels they are but I can see through that peacocking to the pain he still has over what they did to him. I really hope he is getting counseling and learns that he doesn't have to "church up" details of his life to look better than his family when in reality him just living and surviving without a worry about them does this already.

That last story broke my heart. I know badly OP is hurting. I hope he and his sister are able to mend their relationship somewhere down the line. It sounds like they’ve both withstood neglect. With an absent father and an alcoholic mom she’s probably desperate for a parental bond. It doesn’t make it right, but if she’s also not close with her brother, it makes sense that she’d jump at the chance for a relationship with a father she’s probably been dreaming about. OP’s been left in the dust and I don’t blame him for wanting to stop supporting them. Sounds like he’s been the adult in the house for too long. I hope he’s able to go to therapy because this kind of trauma isn’t going to go away.

Last comment of last story: A life insurance policy goes directly to the beneficiary. No creditors can bill the Beneficiary. Life insurance is also tax free. Rockefellers used a series of irrevocable trusts that helped pass down wealth to future generations. These Trusts both fund and remain funded through premium life insurance policies, and include strict stipulations that protect the family from the risk of irresponsible behavior.

Story # 1 - I'm kind of getting Jekyll and Hyde feelings here. The kid, "Z", only acted rude and abrasive towards his mom, dad and sister. Everyone else he was perfectly okay with as he had lots of friends who took him in as well as his philanthropy with the charity he founded. Jekyll with the world in general, Hyde with his family. And the poster never sees it or recognizes it. I suppose because he would have to admit he was in the wrong in how he treated his son and daughter. In all instances Z is not the asshole. The poster, and rest of the family, are major, major assholes. Story # 2 - Why is everyone surprised the poster's butch "boyfriend" would cheat on her? Why do people think homosexuals and lesbians somehow have some moral high ground that would translate to not being assholes and / or not treat others like shit? People, of EVERY stripe, will have those in their tribe that are selfish narcissists that will take advantage of others.

There's no mention of divorce between OP's parents, but that could be an oversight in the writing and/or meant to be inferred due to the father leaving, but that is a serious POS move. After hearing that, I'm pretty sure the deadbeat dad is trying to reconcile because OP has some money (electrical engineers tend toward the high end of middle class incomes), and wants to try the "but faaaaaamily" line to get OP to pay for his new family.

The son should update this post by adding his complete side to OP’s post. I think both parents would come out looking even worse than the look now. There’s a lot more to this story than what is being said. I bet that the sister was and is the golden child who can do no wrong. Wait till the sh*t starts hitting the fan between the sister and the husband, then they’re going to seek him out begging, even more, for forgiveness or probably when the son is married with kids. Then they’ll want access to the kids and it becomes “but FAMILY.”

Why didn’t op or mama stop the bullying???? Why would a sister EVER date their siblings abuser????? Why were they friends with the bully’s parents like you knew what they were doing and were just buddy buddy with the bully all the way round.🙃

I've seen the last story before and it still amazes me how the mom was instantly willing to forgive the ex husband😳I get that the daughter might still have some childish dreams of having picture perfect relationship with her father, but the mom???

Gee, I wonder why Z became so "aggressive and disrespectful"? Probably because he LOST RESPECT FOR THEM realized his parents wouldn't stand up for them and, you know, showed they didn't respect him!

Op didn't take the bullies side, he stayed out of it, he is not allowed to interfere in his daughter's dating life, he betrayed no one

@Gerardo Mendez he did. Like really man, you think the issues would just disappear when it happened. I would not be surprised if op left out any info after that because it gets bad.

Story 1: Op has to know he’s the Ah. Why is he even asking? Daughter’s bf bullied op’s son, and when he confronted his family, dad was like ’not my circus, not my monkeys’ (but it was both his circus & his monkeys)and mom said ‘I love my daughter more than I love my son’ and both are surprised pikachu face that their actions have consequences. In this case, the son went no contact with his whole famn damily.

I'm going thru the same thing. My son 41 and daughter in a fight. Been two years. They both are in the wrong, and right. I'm not getting into it. Now my daughter totally blames me. She calls, with love, but then ends the call, saying really nasty things. She the only victim, in her opinion.

I don't like how all of Reddit just rips into to people with their own personal frustrations. Ok OP's son might've still been bitter about the whole situation and their relationship might never heal but at least they're talking and on the road to recovery.

Those a holes where family friends with his bully's parents.... Like, hopefully son lives a happy life apart from those psychos. Holy shit did they ever prioritize their own kid? And now the bully is dating daughter and all are fine with this....

Ok so to story 1 I am not quite sure if the harsh response is justifyed... First up people accusing them of ignoring the bullying, this may be the case, but often times kid's aren't open about being bullied to their parents. We do not know enough of the situation to make a jugement. Secoundly we really had no words from how the bully acted while dating his sister. He could have stayed an asshole, he may have been remorseful and may have tryed to build briges with him. Again, we simply do not know enough of the situation to make a jugment. (Honestly I am quite dissapointed the comments asked so litte and juged so much) HOWEVER, what we can judge is, that no matter the situation, not taking your son's side is the wrong move.

I dont get the comments that OP from story 1 get. Even if they were wrong and the son doesnt want anything to do with them, isnt the redemption path is to keep trying to reach out to him? Do commenters want the parents to just stop and forget him?

Hard to be 100% on the first. How young did the bullying occur and how severe was it? Is the bully repentant? If it's like 8, mild, and a solid yes, it's been 11 years and likely time to move on. If it was high school and shoving in lockers was involved then bully can eff himself. I say this as the young nerd who DID move on.

This is disgusting, I'd always side with my children. I can't understand siding with your child's bully I'd be furious I'd tell my daughter her bully boyfriend won't be setting food in my home and I'd not approve of the relationship. The dad is a spineless fence sitter. Poor bairn hasn't got anyone to fight for him.

What is it about Reddit that loves making conflict worse. People are always assholes. They never actually give any advice to try and improve a relationship, it’s always “no contact”

So for the dying dad with the Big, C. We the victim, do not have to forgive so they the ButtWhole can move on or die with a happy go lucky feelings.i do not understand why people think it's the one person that was treated so badly, has to be the one to forgive, what the HELL kind of nonsence is that. And just because I don't forgive, that dose not make me bitter person, it makes me a smarter person. That's just my take on that story.

the commenters and even op are odd in story 3. while I understand the distain towards dad for a andoning the family. where is the mom in all this? she went full alcoholic and is still living off her son, who became the primary organizer of the house. mom abandoned the family as well, just not phyiscially. she is just a different colour of POS. imo.
