Found the old one 8 months later when hubby and I went to move, took the new one off right then and there and stuck the now found one on. I was super happy to have found it before we left. Some people have extreme emotional value in their wedding/engagement rings, some are also quite expensive, regardless, it wasn't that one person's right to sell it. It was also stupid of that mil to give her ring to a fricking child to play with imo.

Mark, I loved the story, and you and I are kindred spirits. Now, CEOs have been known to play "good cop/bad cop" with them as the good cop and the managers as the bad cop. They want to seem like the nicest person in the world to the employees and therefore use the manager as the disciplinarian. Not always, but I've seen it done. So new employee did waste time, did come across as a smart ass, and should beware of the CEO. I literally had a friend who was put in the exact same situation. "Come to me, I want to be sure you are happy here". She had two viable complaints and took it to her boss' boss, frankly I don't remember if she took it to the boss first or not--literally happened decades ago. But I do remember she said that with the open door policy she felt free to do so. She got fired by the CEO with the grinning manager there as "she wasn't happy so she should go".

OP literally just found something the MIL disposed of, years later. It's not much different than if she *literally* threw it in the trash. OP fished it out, and now MIL is mad because OP benefited from her "garbage" that was supposed to be thrown away. MIL is just salty and trying to save face. But yes, it was a bit of a dick move, regardless. But not much imo. It's not much different than if MIL ex: Put a 50' plasma TV on the curb for garbage. OP picks it up and sells it. So a very soft NTA cause of that. Btw I know I’ll get some hate for saying the guy who bought it had more rights to the ring.. I don’t care so don’t bother commenting. Thanks.
