For story 2, the woman was already berated in public and therefore likely berated in private, OP standing up for her wouldn't have changed that, only shown her that she wasn't alone and provided a ray of light. However, I am not enough of an expert on abuse to know that would make it dangerous for her, could someone explain that? Surely everyone sitting by and ignoring it would be worse? It only solidifies for her that this is how she deserves to be treated.

In story 2: I felt like the boyfriend was more mad that it happened in front of his friends than the fact that his girlfriend stood up for the breastfeeding mom. I think he values maintaining appearances more and the gf cares more about doing the right thing. That’s probably going to be a point of tension between them. Honestly though, if I was one of the friends I would have been impressed with OP for being so badass.

I'm torn on story 2, but I do want to point out that if OP could clearly hear the man loudly berating the mother from 2 tables away, the odds are extremely high that plenty of people in the restaurant were already shamelessly eavesdropping on the conversation. The one commenter who said something about a "small private tiff" seems to have missed the fact that he was clearly loud and almost certainly drawing attention. I think OP could have gone about this a much better way, but some commenters seem to think that nobody else in the restaurant other than OP could have possibly already been watching and listening to this situation. Plus a crying/fussing baby always draws attention

Breastfeeding one is a half and half scenario. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. But OP shouldn't be ashamed of doing the right thing. I have seen to many scenarios like that and it always breaks my heart to see women shamed for something natural. Should OP have handled it better? That's more of a "would've, could've, should've" situation. But how much worse would it be if she had done nothing? The woman was obviously struggling and she was obviously being affected. So sometimes everyone needs a friend to be there. It's not like we're all psychics. So what? Are we all not supposed to help someone EVERYTIME because that person MIGHT be in a situation we don't know about? How are we supposed to know? And will YOUR inaction kill them? Being a bystander is just as deadly. But I remember freezing once and not saying anything when I was witness to the most heighnous racism I had seen... From shock. I couldn't believe it had happened so openly and casually that I had to double take. The worst part? They made eye contact with me but I still froze. And after the unimaginable guilt I felt I promised to NEVER freeze again. So I haven't since. Too many people want to be keyboard warriors. There's so many "what if's" in life at every moment and in every day. We can't just drop everything. We can't just freeze because of some imaginary scenario your brain cooks up. If you jump the gun? Apologize. At least your heart was in the right place and most people are understanding. Grateful that someone would even care to pay attention to their body language/situation.

The term mind your own business it's a saying for a reason. I'm pretty sure that the girl could see because she paid attention to her body language she paid attention to everybody's body language which made it impossible for her to ignore. But this is done after some wives give birth by some husbands just like cheating is prevalent while the wife's pregnant not cuz she's ugly and fat but because there's something going on in men's heads biologically it said this female's pregnant move to the next it's why you hear so many people having more than one baby but only one wife. But there's also the one that has to do this in public because if they don't do this in public the wife won't know that not only will you get in trouble but your nose will get rubbed in it and nobody will help because you are stuck with that infant and vulnerable and you can't get away because nobody will help you. Story 2: NTA I’m wondering if those saying YTA have ever been in that moms shoes? Being overwhelmed, taking care of a baby by yourself in public is so stressful! Than to have 3 people ignoring it until your told to go sit in the bathroom by yourself? Unable to partake in conversation or eat is isolating and may even deter her from wanting to be social at all. I feel sad for the women saying they’d be angry at OP for blowing it up - being told it’s disgusting your feeding your infant and go hide yourself would make me seriously question my relationship w this individual. If she’s in danger because of DV; from my personal experience - the second he said something about the breastfeeding he already had it in his head to ‘address’ it once alone. It’d still be horrible if it amplifies his reaction but there’s also some hope that someone else noticing her mistreatment will validate to the mom that this isn’t ok Edit: I do think OP could’ve waited and if the other woman did go to the bathroom, had a conversation there

Speaking of Flavor Flav and his giant clock... My youngest sons birthday is the day before Halloween and he used to have a Halloween themed birthday party almost every year. One year we had a costume contest and this one kid came dressed as Flavor Flav. I about died, I thought it was awesome. He won the prize too. He had the hat, the cape, everything, it was just great.

@@WyntheRogue yeah, the *really* funny thing is, my former mother (toxic, axed her out of my life legally) actually asked my husband - during one of our final interactions - when he was going to put his foot down, and 'stop letting her buy such cheap and trashy clothing, and make her dress like a lady?' The outfit I was wearing cost 500$ - black tailored bespoke slacks (because pockets are terrible in women's clothing and I have weird measurements), a pair of higher end black platform heels and a black cashmere sweater. To the OP with the man-baby brother-in-law: The next time he throws a tantrum, you and your wife need to calmly reassure him that the new baby will never replace him as the neediest and most coddled infant in his mommy and sister's hearts. There's enough love for everyone and before you know it, the baby will grow up and everyone can go back to making sure BIL knows he's the most special little man in the family! Then ask if he made a poopy in his pants and needs mommy to powder his tushy before nap time.

S2: This is the exact reason why the "What Would You Do?" exists. A situation where some is in a uncomfortable state in public with no form of aid from the people who're supposed to care about her. The ESH and YTA votes have tangible reasons, but you have to ask: would you literally snub your nose a mother being shunned by her family whilst caring for her/a baby? We can't always let the genovese effect win

What kind of AH in this day and age talks about "letting" or "not letting" his wife do something? Story 2 - OP is a legend! I'm disgusted with the BF giving her the silent treatment until she bows down and apologizes. Does she really need this guy? Story 3 - 17:54 - Before OP does anything else, s/he should contact someone in authority in the HOA and tell them everything s/he told us, so that if the A-Hole neighbor does try to get them to make OP give up the dog they have the real story. Story 3 - Later - If the neighbor has any family in the area and there's any way OP can contact them, maybe they need to have him assessed for the early stages of dementia. What leg does the boyfriend have to stand on to feel embarrassed? That his girlfriend who caused a scene sits at the same table as him? Nobody would even care about him as all the fokus went to OP and the people a table over. It kinda feels entitled from the boyfriend. Like he's so important that he needs to keep his partner in check or it will look bad on him. It doesn't make sense.
