Aivali, where Pappou and I originate from, Asia Minor Greeks

This clip is dedicated to my late Aunty Ourania, who alerted me to where her father Vasileios was from, Karagatsi. This town is a quick drive from Aivali.
My pappou and his brother were the only ones from our family to escape the carnage as the Ottomans destroyed his village and city.
I came here in 1999 and I recall how well Turks treated me. I never wanted to return but Peter Psomas convinced me and here I was. It was great to be back.
We have forgiven the Turks, we don’t ask for reparations we just ask that only peace and friendship exists. Maybe the Israelis can learn from us instead of treating Palestinians like animals. Speaking of animals, the Bavarian pig, a field marshal whose picture is towards the end of the clip is the bastard who demanded the Ottomans destroy Hellenism in the region in 1917. He forced the Sultan to destroy the Greek towns and death march those who survived into the interior where they perished. A technique they had perfected in West Africa and we see today in various conflict zones

Lesvos was home to Pappou, but Aivali was also home. He died a broken man when my dad was ten years old, changing his life forever and confining him to no education and full time work as a little boy
